Dedon island resort is not actually an island but a beautiful resort nestled on the southern end of Siargao Island. From the first moment you are met by the Dedon island staff you know you are in for something special.
I didn't quiet know what to expect and am pleased to say that the beautiful photo's on line and in so many of the glossy magazines that have compiled articles about the resort do not do the place justice .... its beautiful.
The staff provide you with luxury 5 star service without being stiff or stuffy making you feel like you've dropped by an old friends private beach home, more of a personal friend than a guest.
Their chef create's the menu daily depending on what is freshest and seasonal at the market that day, along with your personal tastes and preferences. We enjoyed a wonderful variety of fresh shellfish, sea food, chicken, pork and beef accompanied by salads and veg right out of the organic garden and the freshly squeezed fruit juices where one of the highlights for me.
The bar is always open and we enjoyed many wonderful signature cocktails throughout the day and the selection of red and white wine is more than enough.
If your'e looking for a place to unwind and "get away from it all", Dedon island resort is all that and more.

Room Tip: Deluxe villas are double story with sea views, all superior villas have beautiful garden views

It all started in Cebu. They will accompany you with your transfer to siargao. It's a 40-45min dedon jeep ride to the resort. Refreshments and cold towels are given.
Everybody was helpful and accommodating . They will try to entertain all requests. Especially with food. Chef Nico is the best. My son will always go to the kitchen and he'd always teach him. They'd prepare food together. He requested pizza and they made it together.
If you want a quiet private island then this is the place. Furniture are fabulous.
The rooms are very beautiful. Try to stay in villa 8 .

Bring lots and lots of insect repellant. Lots of bugs and mosquitoes .

Btw, they'll still help you until you depart the island til you get to Cebu. Service deluxe .
Thank you to Matt and Morag for making our stay awesome .

Dedon Island hotel is the best way to experience Siargao without roughing it.

You know this is an intimate hotel when the co-GM Matt is the 1 that drives you from Siargao airport, when you eat your last dinner w/the 2 co-GMs, when chef Nico is the 1 that shows you to your villa, & when everything is home made, from their banana bread, to the yummy dried mangos & pineapples, when you are invited to join Nico on his daily trips to the market, before taking cooking lessons from him. And yippie no villa/room keys to lose.

Only slight issue I had was food related
1) In order not to waste food, a daily menu would help vs. serving everyone the same dishes. Ie my 1st lunch consisted of pork adobo, french fries, veggies & squid adobo; but I don't eat fried food & eat very little meat. To give the kitchen credit, after hearing that I prefer veggies, for the 1st night's Bbq Dinner, I was given lots of veggies prior to their delicious pork & chicken. Breakfast was my healthiest meal of the day, lots of choices (but communicated verbally so you really have to ask to understand what choices are available). I stuck w/fresh fruits & veggies only. Lunch 2nd day was cabbage, fish curry, deep fried eggplant w/ eggs (really greasy) & fried chicken. Dinner 2nd night was a fish sashimi, pork & quinoa, plus dessert. 1 of the guys at my table does not eat raw fish, so he was out of luck until the main. Lunch the 3rd day was on the boat. The best meal of the 3 nights was the last night, endless tapas by a lovely 6 wicks candle which reminded me somehow of sitting by campfires @ African Safaris (in a good way).
2) The beautiful bar that was photographed so often did not have a bartender. Free alcohol included whites & reds but there were no cocktails (even if you paid). I wish they could have included cheap champagne from N. Zealand or made cocktails, especially as the Philippines is not 1 of these places w/crazy import tax on alcohol. Although Matt & Morag did open their own bottle of champagne to share with us on our last night....

As expected, the villas are divine, just like the rest of the hotel, I loved the preloaded ipod & deck that looks out to the leafy gardens & the stunning sea, just the place for dreamy days & balmy nights. My 1st night here I slept a solid 10 hours! I also love that there was no plastic here. Ie no plastic waterbottles, our showers were heated via solar panels.

The resort's max. occupancy is 20 guests, as I was here Easter weekend, the place was 100% occupied & we had some rowdy kids running around-- just a minor annoyance.

Activities were fantastic! As the 1st & last day were travel days, unfortunately had only 2 full days here. 1st full day got to go on a hubble hubble (motorbike) to go body boarding @ Cloud 9, in the afternoon tried paddle boarding in the bathtub warm water right outside the villa. The 2nd full day was a fabulous trip with Sean the adventures guru to the out of this world Sohoton. It was a scenic 1.5 hr to get there, another 1-2 km paddle board in, via a barely there cave entrance, & you gain entrance into another world. (Currents are strong though, 1 of our 2 person kayaks capsized) We did some impromptu cave climbing holding on to the stalagmites, then took a leap of faith cliff jump back into the pristine water, followed by snorkeling over some nicely preserved reefs, & @ the end of the day, as it was low tide @ Dedon Island hotel, we kayaked ourselves back onto the hotel's beach before a well deserved shower.

A hallmark of service is how you are treated after you check out: Dedon has its own lounge @ the Siargao airport, Carmela the same tireless lady that picked me up 4 am when I arrived in Cebu was there when our plane landed from Siargao. 1 of the vans took the other guests with a 4 hour layover to the Abaca hotel for lunch. I had a much longer layover but she sent 1 of the drivers to pick me up from my hotel in Cebu to Anzani restaurant & wait for me there til my post dinner flight back home.

In sum, Dedon is an awesome escape from the daily grind, a place to get your adrenalin going then get pampered, & a fantastic way to check out this less explored part of the Philippines.

We arrived at siargao on march 22. We were instantly greeted by very corteous staff in the airport who knew right away that we were heading for DEDON island. They told us to proceed outside to the vehicle that would take us to the resort while they get our bags. The vehicle was amazing, it was a modified Philippine jeepney with sofas and what not, the staff spoke pretty good English and constantly offered us drinks and snacks for our wonderful 40 minute trip to the resort. Waiting for us in the entrance of the resort were the general managers Matt and morag, two of the nicest and most accommodating people you would ever meet. They welcomed us to DEDON island and led us in. There to greet us in the resort as well was the chef, niko, who when asked what he does for the resort instantly answered that he was the gardener. We were then brought to our villas which were amazing. On top of their being aesthetically beautiful, they were very comfortable and they gave you the feel of being just at home. They had an iPod in the villa connected to speakers, a great lounge chair outside, a cellphone to be able to contact the guest relations office and what not.
We then had a delicious lunch cooked by chef Niko who talked to us right after to ask us what kind of food we would be looking for for the rest of our trip. We told him what we wanted and yes, he did fulfill all our gastronomical desires. On top of his very delicious entrees, his desserts were phenomenal. From the basil ice cream with custard to the grilled banana with chocolate accompanied by vanilla ice cream. Of course, the wonderful creme brule. That is a must have. He also asks you what drinks you would be having through out your stay so he could prepare them as well. I would recommend ordering the sangria.
Next, I would like to talk about the very accommodating and adventurous Shaun (forgive me of I get the spelling of his name wrong). Shaun is the adventure guide. After our first meal he immediately approached us and gave us a list of activities in siargao. He asked us to pick which ones we would like to do and taught and accompanied us with everything we wanted to do from surfing to wakeboarding.
All the staff in DEDON are wonderful. They speak good English, they're very polite and accommodating and they're very good. You can order any food or drink your heart desires and eat it in your room or in the general dining area at anytime provided the kitchen has not closed yet. DEDON island is a great place to escape the busy life and the sea of people you encounter daily in the city. It's a wonderful place.

Thanks Matt, morag, nico/niko, Shaun, and the rest of the DEDON staff for this wonderful wonderful experience!

P.S. if you order their fried chicken, it will change your view on fried chicken forever

Dedon, Matt and Morag and all the staff at Dedon Island make our dream a reality by hosting our wedding in March 2013 in this amazing and beautiful resort.
Everything was perfect from the food, to the activities, to the massage, to the island hoping, whatever we asked they delivered and they even give more than what we expected!
For a surprise wedding with our families, and close friends we couldn't find a better place.
The villas are just great place to stay, enjoy the view and have fun. The decoration is perfect, every detail has been covered - from the iPod music selection, to the objects in each villa, to the Dedon products... and so many more things you'll discover here.
The food was just better and better everyday, and every single request has been covered.
The massage in room or in the massage room was just perfect, best massage ever!
The outdoor activities in this environment can't go wrong and again was perfect: Surfing sessions, Kitesurf, snorkelling, island hoping, paddle, sailing, ... and so many more activities they suggested and thanks to the nice weather was perfect! can't ask for more.
The staff and the management are over exceeding your imagination & queries in a such way that they suggested activities or other things to do before you even ask.
Our Wedding was a intimate moment and they manage to deliver and over exceed our expectations by turning the beach in a wedding venue, where you enjoyed with our families and friends this privileged moment... with the ceremony, the aperitif and the wedding diner by the beach as in our dreams.

I can only suggest & recommend this place and you cant get wrong by choosing Dedon Island with friends, or family or in couple. And there are many reasons why Dedon Island after only being opened recently is part of the top 20 Best Hotels in the world... by staying there you will understand...

The only issue (if i can say that as an issue) with this unique place is that only after days back to Europe I want to go back as we miss all of you!!!
We are very much looking forward to come back to celebrate our anniversary!

Soso & MrT

We went to spend our honey moon in Dedon Island, we expected a lot, we got a lot and much more. We got taken care of by staff of Dedon Island from the City of Cebu already with a lot of personal attention and care. We arrived to Siargao the following day taking a small airplane where stewards sing and moved to Dedon Island in their magnificient bus (Dedon has its own dedicated waiting room in the small Siargao airport). We arrived in our gorgeous villa, extremely modern, beautiful, extremely spacious and open, built with noble materials yet not overwhelming. We have the sea in front of us ! The level of attention to details, of friendly care for every detail that the staff was doing for us was fantastic. The food was phenomenal, and they organised our table at a different place nearly every evening (even once on a boat which took us on a lagoon behind the hotel). As far as activities are concerned, we were always free to do what we liked but were offered options to go scuba diving around another island, visiting lagoons and caves on stand up paddle boards, spend time on Naked Island, or water ski among different islands... or just relax around the pool. We also visited the island of Siargao and of course we both started surfing. What we thought would be impossible became possible because we each had our own instructor in the water and we both succeeded in riding a few waves... very, very exhilerating. We had the best of time, we went as newly wed and it is perfect for that but it also most suitable for families. Nature is magnificient and the weather too. Upon arrival from Switzerland, we stopped a day in Manilla, this is not really necessary unless you want to shop in the gigantic Asia Mall... DEDON ISLAND à déguster sans restrictions !!!

Room Tip: All villas are gorgeous, there are the original 4 which have been completely redone and the new ones...

My family and I have been wanting to go to Siargao for a long time but couldn't find a resort we liked. Then we saw pictures on the internet of what looked like a fabulous resort, Dedon Island Resort. There was no local number so we called the German line indicated (from the Philippines) and booked ourselves.

From the start and even before we started our vacation, the experience was wonderful! The resort asked us details of our preferences, diet, our flight details, and details of our family. Upon arrival in Cebu, their able liaison officer, Gen, helped us with some difficulties on our connecting flight to Siargao.

We were picked up by the Dedon luxury jeep, stocked with dried coconut chips, pineapple and mango. The jeepney ride was a lovely 40-minute ride through the island.

Upon arrival at the resort, we were welcomed by the entire staff, headed by the GM Maia, Adventure Manager Sean from Kenya, Chef Nico from Hamburg, F&B Head Cristina from Hamburg, yoga instructor Cristina from Spain and India, and we were met at the airport by Ivan, a super masseur from Spain who was brought by the Dedon Island owner from Ibiza.

We were brought to our villa no. 8 and, wow! We have stayed in the best resorts in Thailand (Koh Samui and Chiang Mai), Bali, Indonesia, Malaysia (Kota Kinabalu) and the Philippines, and easily, this has got to be the best villa we have stayed in. The villa had a masters bedroom and a children's bedroom at the 2nd floor, a bathroom with a beautiful shower area in the middle and an outdoor shower area. Built as a native Philippine hut, it had all the comforts of a 5 star luxury resort, including an ipod with built in music. The entire resort is filled with Dedon furniture. Don't be surprised if you'll want to buy some soon.

That night, the staff arranged for an outdoor movie showing by the pool over dinner. Our kids caught Diary of a Wimpy Kid while my husband and I feasted on lobster salad and sweet potato soup by the chef, Nico.

The resort is eco friendly, so there is no noise pollution -- no noisy jet skis, etc., just the sound of my kids' laughter and the wind. Even the drinks are in recyclable metal flasks (no plastic bottles here).

The next day, we were brought to Sohoton Cove by Sean (a 4th generation Irishman from Kenya), Ivan and Em (the guest relations officer). The 90 minute boat trip is lovely, and we started paddle boarding through the cove. At one point, we lay down on our paddle boards to enter a beautiful cave. The kids loved swimming inside the cave! Sean then brought us to another cave where we went rock climbing, to emerge from a dive point on a cliff. My husband and I then dove into the deep waters. We had a picnic lunch on the boat and then went snorkeling after.

After our adventure, we were treated to an in-villa massage by Ivan. You would expect that he must be a great masseur for the owner of the resort to bring him from Ibiza to Siargao for a few months. The answer is yes, and more. He should be one of the best in the world. If he's still around when you go, don't miss a massage with him.

We then went to dinner at the show kitchen, where Nico whipped up cold vegetable soup, fresh spring rolls with vegetables from the local farm, kilawin (raw fish in coconut milk and vinegar and calamansi), boullabaise and sorbet. The experience was lovely, and the food top calibre.

On our final day, my 6 year old daughter and I had a yoga class by the beach with Cristina. A divine ending to a fabulous stay.

We didn't have time to go surfing, but we know Cloud 9 is among the top 10 surf sites of the world. So much to do in Siargao, and definitely worth another visit!

The resort felt like our own private resort. It is pricey, but considering that it includes everything (meals, adventure, massage, etc), it is well worth every dollar. We don't normally return to places we've been as we explore new ones all the time, but we plan on going back soon. It should be the best luxury boutique resort in the Philippines, and easily is among the league of Four Seasons resorts in Asia.

Happy to write this first review.
