Punta Placer Bungalows
Ranked #3 of 4 Hotels in San Agustinillo

I loved Punta Placer. It was the perfect location on the San Agustinillo beach. Not too far from the part of the beach where the waves weren’t that big and in from on that rock, the perfect spot for Sunset.
The rooms are beautiful, super clean. I had a room on the second floor in front of the beach and I enjoyed it since there was quite some kids always playing in the sand. So, I could have the peace et quiet on my balcony. The bed was really comfy and the net perfect. Beautiful bathroom.

I would recommend it. It is a bit pricey but you get all the luxury that come with the price.

San Agustinillo is a great place in paradise. You can relax all day by the beach or go visit Mazunte not far from there, walk the beach or have a drink and a snake on the beach at Mexico Lindo(or is it Lido)…

Thanks to the magazine "Mexico Desconocido" I had the chance to discover San Agustinillo, on the coast and this place: Punta Placer! WON-DER-FUL. I stayed in the cabana "Granadillo", top floor, front row in front of the ocean: what a view! A dream. The key words: just enjoy the beach, the ocean, the lovely cabanas (really clean, modern, safe, no insects, or others), the long walk on the beach (1h30), the nice breakast/restaurant area. You are thirsty, you are hungry ... just go to the bar and Punta Placer staff will prepare you a nice juice, a fresh smoothie, a good coktail. You want to relax: Claire, can provide some massages. Really a plus! For breakfast: large choice at Punta Placer or a place I would also recommend, is further down in the village: Posade la Mora. A nice place for a drink is also El Sueno de Frida. I spent a few days in Oaxaca, before coming down to the coast. I took a van form Eclipse, 6-hour drive. Long, but no problem at all. The road is curvy, but the drivers drive smoothly, so really no problem. Once in Pochutla, you take a taxi, 25 min to reach Punta Placer. Anyway, anything you need, any activity you'd like to do: ask Claire, the manager, she is very professional and at ease. I travelled alone, but I immediately felt comfortable and safe at Punta Placer! Don't hesitate: go go Punta Placer.

Of all the little cabanas on San Agostinillo beach, Punta Placer is far and away the prettiest, nicest, cleanest, most charming, well run, well looked after. Sit on your verandah on deck chairs which rock(!) and look at the waves coming in, calmly in the morning and more lively in the afternoon. Walk the beach to Mazunte and in the other direction towards Rancho Cerro Largo (another lovely spot). Punta Placer's advantage is that you are right on the beach. It has a nice little restaurant, so you can have your morning cappuccino, or you can wander along the street of San Agostinillo village and check out the other places to eat. The village is quieter than neighbourly Mazunte, but you can walk over there if you want something livelier. But for a calm and beautiful experience in a pristine and elegant and simple environment, nothing beats Punta Placer.

Room Tip: They are all good

We really loved our time here, so much so that we extended our stay from 3 nights to 4, thank goodness it was available as we were just not ready to leave! I spent so long researching the area & hotels before arriving, I was really confused but turned out to be so happy with our choices. Firstly, the choice to stay in San Ag over Mazunte - they are only 5 mins walk apart over the hill so you can experience both in your stay anyway. But we didn't really like Mazunte when we spent the afternoon there - too hippy for us, people juggling & fire twirling everywhere. We later found out the circus was in town which probably explains it & it is maybe not always so annoying like this. We ended up going back to San Ag for dinner, only staying in Mazunte for a drink. San Ag is totally different. Very quiet, relaxed & tiny village. Secondly the choice to stay in Punta Placer was the best. The cabanas are just gorgeous. All are right on the beach, you just walk straight out & onto the sand. The lounging area is such a great position, it has the most private spot on the whole bay as it has very strategically placed palm trees. The best place to swim is in this little bay that the cabanas face onto but there is a longer beach to the left which seems better for surfing. Nice rocks in between for climbing & finding crabs in rockpools. The hotcakes & smoothie for breakfast were to die for! I had been looking at a few other places to stay, La Termita is right next door so also a really good location & looked like quite good standard too. Un Sueno & Bambu are further down the longer more surfy beach which is maybe not as good for swimming but honestly it is so close to walk to the bay part whenever you want to swim, do not let that turn you off. If your budget doesn't stretch to Punta Placer stay in one of the cheaper places, just make sure you go to San Agustinillo!

This is a boutique hotel with bungalows right on the beach, Incredible experience with opening the door of your room to the beach and Pacific Ocean, lovely swimming right in front of the hotel, no crowds and beautiful beaches for long walks. Very clean and designed beautifully, with a stone bathroom that gives a feel of Gauguin's Pacific. The only set back we had was with the owner who can be very loud and noisy, just talking to his kids. Claire, who does all the arrangements is very professional. Very good breakfast and juices, but for lunch and dinner there are many places close by. Kitchen staff needs some more training, but all in all a very pleasant experience and we would definitely go again.

Room Tip: We had a lower room and were happy with it, but most people prefer the upper ones.

Cabañas Punta Placer provides a delightful location in San Agustinillo. Walk out your door and you're barely 30 yards from the water, on a gorgeous little bay with deep tidal changes. And you're just 10 minutes from Zipolite (the hippy haven with shops, restaurants, and clothing-optional bathing) and five minutes from Mazunte, with its Mexican National Turtle Center, its annual jazz concert, and a dozen or more great restaurants and bars.

Lovely designs for the (round!) rooms and showers, clustered under coconut palms. Situated right next to a cluster of fishermen whose boats also provide excellent tours for whale-watching, sea turtle arrivals on protected beaches to lay eggs or baby turtles seeking the surf. (Let Disney's "Fantasia," play in your head as they swarm ashore or when the babies struggle madly into the waves!) [Hint: Ask for Luís, an excellent naturalist.]

Mosquitoes are no problem for anyone who knows the minimum about using the top-notch mosquito netting provided for each and every bed. No AC needed, given sea breezes and good fans in the ceilings of every room. But, alas, the restaurant is not up to the quality of the hotel. Three superior places to eat within 50 yards to the South, especially at Posada La Amora for breakfast.

Room Tip: No worries about privacy, given the structure of the rooms; but upstairs rooms get a bit more breeze...

This was an OK place. The cabanas are great (except there aren't actually any windows to close, just grating), and all the amenities were nice. I would definitely not recommend this however because of the amount of mosquitoes!! I went in mid to late August and was absolutely destroyed. The mosquito netting doesn't help that much because if you close the net around the bed it gets incredibly hot

Room Tip: Get one of the upstairs cabanas! Much better than being on the ground floor
