The beach is perfect, the rooms fantastic. There is no restaurant on site, but a number of good ones a short walk away. You can grill for yourself in the outdoor kitchen. Memo is very generous with his boogie boards. No need to bring your own. And he is generous about letting you use a shower and spare room if you have a late departure. It's like getting an extra day for free. The rooms on the ocean side are worth the extra money. You used to be able to just walk in here, but now everyone books ahead.

great place, beautifull beach, fantastic owners, the cutest dog on earth.....you don't wanne leave. However, like aparker 1952 stated before, if you like luxury (television, restaurant etc.) and service people cleaning all the time, than this place is maybe not for you. We loved it (much better than more expensive places on the same beach) and will certainly be back. It's close to some great restaurants as well (Mexico Lindo and the wonderfull 'coffee bar' el 'sueno de Frida Kahlo'.... ) and it's right on the beach.

We also loved Bambu, for all the same reasons listed by everyone else. It's a very informal place and probably not for you if you like a lot of staff and service people floating around waiting on you, but my husband and I are informal people and prefer the environment in a place like this. If you want to contact Memo, the owner, about reservations or anything else, he will be glad to answer all of your questions. Here is his email: memobambu@yahoo.com. He is very quick to respond and speaks English as well as Spanish and maybe other languages. San Agustinillo is a safe and beautiful beach with a diversity of ages and nationalities. We are 61 and 67 and we're surrounded by families, 20 and 30 somethings, and elders as well. Great vibe in Bambu and the town as well (and we checked out Mazunte, Puerto Angel, and Zipolite).

Room Tip: The one above the kitchen was fantastic!!!

We found Bambu 5 years ago and have dreamed about coming back ever since. Finally made it back (fly to Huatulco from Oaxaca if you can) and were so glad we chose Bambu again! Memo and Miguel were so accommodating and always good for a chat.

The rooms are unbelievable. Architecturally magnificent, the massive bamboo poles supporting the thatched roofs. Wall sized doors that open to the best view in the world! Check his facebook for the best room photos.

Something that sets Bambu apart from other hotels in the area is that he has chosen to have a communal kitchen instead of a restaurant (which many others do). It keeps the place really chill and community oriented, with a massive table that could seat 20. After traveling and constant eating out it was so wonderful to have a full kitchen stocked with all that we needed, including spices (bring your own food, of course). Just a relief not to have to eat out for every meal. They also provide free drinking water which not only saved us lots of money, but saved us from having to buy tons of plastic water bottles! And a fridge. Cold beer, ice, whatever. Really nice to have when it's near 100ºF everyday!

The rooms are simple and to the point. One of our beds had a pillow top mattress which was nice. Nice that they cleaned the rooms every day. Mosquito nets recommended, we didn't see them but we felt them.

So much room for lounging at Bambu. There are hammocks everywhere, double loungers, single loungers, grass mats, and tables and chairs. Really something for everyone. They have made a special effort to accommodate little ones too by providing child sized tables and chairs and a little pool that they filled up each day. Memo was super sweet with our 2.5 year old, always trying to engage him, and Miguel's kids were around some too which added to the family atmosphere.

Lounging in the shade of the coconut trees, running to the waves for a swim, grabbing an ice cold beer from the fridge as needed, that is how we spent most of our time here. Luckily it is in an out of the way place so it won't become too flooded with tourists, but seriously, Bambu seems to be THE place in San Augustinillo (although as Memo said it seems like everyone who comes to San Augustinillo has a good time). Can't wait to get back.

Room Tip: Cabaña Otate is closest to the road but very large, was perfect for the three of us. Get one of the...

Bambu was an absolute paradise, a super-wonderful haven! I can't say enough good things about it. We stayed in "Palapa", which had a bed, bathroom, and a deck overlooking the ocean on the "first floor", and a loft on the "second floor" with a bed, hammock, and deck chair, all overlooking the ocean as well.
I stayed in the loft, and every time I remember going to sleep (and I slept like a log!) and waking up to the sight and sound of that beautiful sea in my cocoon of a mosquito net, I am transported!!
On the last night, we had to move to the room over the kitchen. It was very roomy, with a large bathroom, two double beds, and a deck overlooking the ocean as well.
The only complaint I had was that, on the deck, one could smell cigarette smoke coming from the restaurant next door.
There were individual cabinets in the kitchen in which one could leave non-perishables, such as fruit. There was also a full-sized refrigerator and a stove, but we didn't cook there; just went out to eat.

All in all, everything was very clean and simple, and the staff was very pleasant and helpful.

If I ever have a chance to go back to San Agustinillo, I have absolutely no doubt as to where I will stay. It was so hard to leave and I miss it so much!

Room Tip: "Palapa" is the best!

For people who are easy-going and not out for luxury and all-inclusive, this is the place to go. Wonderful and friendly people, a kitchen to prepare your snacks and drinks, a beautiful spot on the beach and nice and shady places to relax. The rooms are simple but comfortable and are cleaned every day. We really enjoyed our stay and would come again.
