“Good value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 April 2013

On the whole we enjoyed our stay, but the following may help you decide whether you might like the accommodation.

The apartments were clean and spacious, and the reception staff were friendly and helpful. The apartments were cleaned 3 times per week and towels changed if you wanted fresh ones throughout the week. If TV is your thing it is paid for by a slot machine at the side! Free Wifi is available in the reception / by the pool.

The pool area was clean, though a lot of the sun loungers were broken which gave the place a bit of an un-loved feeling.

The food was just OK, very little choice in the evenings for vegetarians - essentially the option is for the side dish without the meat. The salads were generally good however. The restaurant was dark and needed brightening up - the theme of the decorating was a little bizarre (knights!)

The location of the hotel is pretty good, 5 mins walk from the port / beach and there is a bus stop a few mins walk away.

Would stay again but definitely wouldn't opt for food.

Room Tip: A room nearer to reception may be able to access the free Wifi

Perfect location, lovely pool but unfortunately cold - in December just few people in hotel ( most Germans) There is free internet on reception so you can catch signal in the few rooms next to as well. Nice and clean room - good value for the money!

Room Tip: Take room next to reception ( free internet )

Very dissapointing, surly German lady manned reception, the pool was unheated and the first room we were given had a smell of sewage coming from it. The standard in La Gomera in general is excellent, however this was dissapointing. The breakfast however was good, with a wide range of foods available.

These apartments clearly need an updagrade, however, I found them to be clean, spacious and had everything I needed. As mentioned in another review, there is no soundproofing so noise from your neighbours could ruin your stay. I was very lucky and had considerate neighbours who kept noise to a minimum so I was not disturbed too much. I dread to think what it would be like if there was a family with children next door. I found the staff to be friendly and helpful and had no complaints at all. The pool was lovely and had strict hours of use so people with balconies overlooking the pool werent disturbed too early or late. I didnt eat in the apartments restaurant and managed to find good places to eat within walking distance. There are a few supermarkets in walking distance too, so nothing is too much bother. I would return probably at the same time of year as it was quiet and the weather was good 25 degress on average.

Room Tip: Rooms on the left handside of reception overlooking the pool get the sun for longer.

The walls are paper thin and the german receptionist was less than capable and not willing to help us when we had two apartments booked and paid for rather than two rooms on the night if 6th Feb 2012. thank god for the Spanish and Frence girls who were on duty the next day who helped us get some of our money back.

Room Tip: Any room towards the rear of the Apartments

Valle Gran Rey and La Gomera both well worth a visit. stayed here for 5 nights, and following some confusion over whether reception could match our prebooked price for half board for extra nights (they couldn't) we had an enjoyable stay.

My wife and I stayed at Laurisilva for five enjoyable days in September having travelled by Armas ferry from Los Cristianos, Tenerife. The journey from our port of arrival, San Sebastian, to Valle Gran Rey took about an hour and a quarter in our hired Corsa. Whilst the apartments are prominently situated on what passes for the 'main road' there was not too much traffic around. Should you arrive after dark, you might find the apartments more difficult to spot as the sign was not illuminated.

Check-in was friendly and very quick and we found ourselves in a reasonably spacious apartment overlooking a banana plantation. Others have reviewed these apartments and I agree with their reviews. The accommodation is basic but has all you need with one or two features not always found eg a full sized fridge-freezer, microwave oven, kettle and coffee-maker. The bedroom was quite small with sliding wardrobe doors that didn't slide ! The bathroom was perfectly adequate with a good shower. The balcony area was a reasonable size with table and four chairs and excellent views of the pool and mountains. The lounge/diner area was comfortable although the double doors opening on to the balcony were in need of some attention.

The apartment was cleaned regularly and we appreciated the bunch of local bananas left for us in our room. Can't comment on the hotel food as we prepared our own breakfasts - everything is available in the local shops. The swimming pool is quite large with plenty of room and sunbeds on the surrounding terraces - the mountainous backdrop is stunning. There is a bar on the terrace which was open during the day but not at night (at least when we were there)

There was on-site entertainment on Friday and Saturday evenings in the bar area and the predominantly Spanish guests seemed to be enjoying life to the full. I think we were the only UK visitors in the complex - if not the entire resort !

We enjoyed eating out - lots of fresh fish available at fair prices. Vueltas village is only a short walk away and has quite a range of restaurants and bars to choose from.

The car enabled us to see some of the island and it would be a pity to miss it. We visited the laurel forests, Hermigua, Vallehermosa, Playa Santiago and many villages via tunnels, hairpin bends and ravines losing count of the number of stops made to admire the views. The roads although winding and steep were very well-surfaced and a good deal better than many at home. The relatively-new airport has a fascinating terminal hall with Canarian balconies, pond and fountains and landscaped free parking areas, What a shame it has no flights - apart from a a couple to Tenerife's Los Rodeos airport in the north each day.

We shall probably visit La Gomera again in the future and would be happy to stay at Laurisilva

Room Tip: Some rooms appear to have been refurbished - try asking for one of those
