We really cannot think of enough superlatives to describe this wonderful house. Aldo has converted this 16th century house with immense style and it was an utter joy and privilege to have been able to stay there. We only wish it could have been for longer.
The location is great - just a short walk from the marina which was a pleasure to wonder around when we weren't off sightseeing. It is perfectly located for visits to Valletta which is just a short trip across the harbour by water taxi or the ferry. There are also some excellent sites to visit within walking distance of the house including the Inquisitor's Palace, the Malta at War Museum and the Maritime Museum.
Aldo and Joseph made us feel so welcome, meeting us at the airport which was much appreciated. And the welcome pack is a very thoughtful touch.
We cannot praise this house highly enough and hope to return soon.
Indulgence Divine is a beautifully rennovated 16th century townhouse. A perfect balance of ancient and modern with incredible attention to detail. A designers paradise set in the wondefully photogenic city of Vittoriosa. We felt this was a great place to stay away from the throngs of tourists and only a short ferry ride away from the capital Valletta.
We were made to feel very welcome and the welcome pack was the best we've ever received. If you're looking for a base to explore Malta and Valletta we think you would be struggling to beat this accommodation in terms decor and luxury. We would definitely recommend it to all our friends and stay here again should we decide to return to Malta.
The property felt so luxurious, a real gem. It was brilliant to be somewhere with so much history and so much to look at, with virtually no tourists around. I would highly recommend staying in Birgu and travelling to other locations, it was very easy. We had a lovely meal in the osteria opposite and the bars in the square had a great local vibe.
When we arrived we were very pleasantly surprised by the reception from John and the welcome package which made a great start to our stay.
The property is located away from the hustle and bustle of Valletta but is only minutes away by a 2€ boat trip. In Birgu, it is only a 5 minute walk to the beautiful harbour, where there are plenty of bars and restaurants.
We would highly recommend Indulgence Divine.
This was our first visit to Malta and how lucky we were to find to find Indulgence Divine. Situated in the beautiful, charming city of Birgu, ID is the perfect haven to return to at the end of a day exploring the historic island of Malta. We were welcomed warmly at the airport by John & Lorraine and shown around Indulgence Divine with its lovely welcome pack. The house is stylishly decorated with so many interesting pieces around that even by the end of the week we were still spotting new things. Please leave yourself time to enjoy the property I know this is hard with so many interesting things to do on the island. We set ourselves time to explore the fascinating library !!
Enjoy breakfast on the balcony in the mornings. Many good restaurants close by but our favourite has to be Osteria.Ve which couldn't be closer [ across the alleyway from ID ] We enjoyed excellent food and warm welcomes every visit. Tate vegetarian restaurant also very good. Look forward to future visits to Indulgence Divine.
A holiday let that lived up to all expectations. As an apartment for two, Indulgence Divine was every bit as fabulous as the website pictures and description would suggest. Opulent but not overstated decor and a real sense of history oozing out of the honey-coloured Maltese limestone walls. It was surprisingly quiet for an urban area, resulting in the best night's sleep for years! The welcome and support from Aldo (owner) and John (house manager) was exceptional. Add to this the newly restored waterfront and marina of Birgu, the refurbished fortifications and a great range of quality (but not expensive) bars and restaurants within an easy walk and you have an irresistible combination. Valetta- charming itself if a lot more crowded- is an easy 5-10 minute boat ride (ferry or water taxi) across the harbour so in a sense you have the best of both worlds by being based in Birgu. A truly memorable vacation for couples of whatever age and one that cannot be more highly recommended.
From start to finish our one week break in this charming and historic part of Malta was a wonderful and memorable experience. So what was so special?
Certainly the Maltese warm weather, blue skies, yellow limestone buildings, historic sites, striking harbour / sea views, tasty Mediterranean cuisine and friendliness of the locals was a terrific combination. And especially because we had been fortunate to book such a beautifully renovated historic apartment that dated back to the period when the Knights of the Order of St. John were active in this area during the 16th / 17th centuries.
Aldo, the owner of the property, is also an interior designer and this was evident in the mix of modern and historic elements in this tasteful multi-layered apartment. There is a great roof terrace, chill-out TV and music area and well-fitted kitchen / dining area on the ground floor, bedroom located in the former chapel, even a secret area that you must discover accessible down a spiral staircase.
John and Lorraine formed a first-class welcome party and collected us from the airport. After a thorough introduction to the facilities and also tips on local restaurants they later kindly arranged return transport to the airport. We will be posting a separate review on several great restaurants in the area that include, opposite to the apartment, an excellent Venetian eatery.
Vittoriosa is an ideal base to explore Malta with terrific views of neighbouring cities and good bus links. It is only a short romantic boat ride to Valletta and approaching Valletta from the Grand Harbour is definitely the way to travel.
This was our first visit to Malta and we will definitely return to Vittoriosa.
