“Lovely, traditional Maltese house, in heart of Birgu”

We loved this place. Alfie, the owner, is a lovely friendly guy, and nothing is too much trouble. There was milk, bread, butter, ham and cheese, in the fridge when we arrived, enough to start us off until we familiarised ourselves with the local shops, of which there are plenty, the nearest being on the street corner. The property is lovely, with lots of space for four of us, we even made use of the washing machine as we had a child with us. Great location, with the historic Inquisitor's Palace just around the corner and the Malta at War museum just five minutes away. The main square is a 5 minute walk, where there is a regular bus service to Valletta, or the pretty harbour/ marina where you can get the ferry to Valletta, which runs every half hour, is just another few minutes away.
We've had a fabulous time, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place. We ll be back

“Characterful house in first class location”
Reviewed 30 November 2016 for a stay in November 2016

Second 2 week stay at the Alley.Alfie is very likeable and an extremely helpful host. The house is situated in the old quarter which is practically traffic free ,3mins walk from the square and the bus to Valletta. We choose to use the ferry across Grand Harbour a brilliant boat journey and 10 euros for 7 days unlimited use. Both Birgu and Valletta hava very interesting history,I would recommend reading Ernle Bradford 'The Great Seige' and James Holland on Maltas travails in the Second World War.Makes one appreciate what the Maltese have been through and visualise the huge events that happened in and around Grand Harbour. Was a very good base for exploring the rest of Malta.

“In the words of Mary Poppins 'Practically Perfect in Every Way!'”

Oozing Maltese tradition this beautiful house nestles just inside the ancient town of Birgu, where we spent a delightfully relaxing 2 weeks in October.
Our 'tweets' of the day were not some exotic specimen of bird life, oh no, the noises we eagerly tuned into were the claxon like horns announcing to the village square the arrival of the bread van full of freshly baked Maltese bread, or the fruit & veg van groaning with local produce; tomatoes as sweet as strawberries and mouth watering melons. Even the 'bells' became our welcomed soundtrack. What the church bells lacked in tune, was more than compensated by the apparent joyous enthusiasm of the bell ringers!!
A town full of history, excellent restaurant's and a fantastic view of bobbing yachts from the harbour key side, no better way to relax and chill out!
