This little house was superb as was the owner Alfred who was always on hand if we needed him. After being out all day in the sun it was a pleasure to open the door and walk into the peace of the cool living room. The kitchen was very well kitted out with everything you needed to cook an evening meal - however we ate out in the superb local restaurants. The location of the property in Birgu is in a pretty alley just a 2 minute walk from the square and bus stop and 10 minutes from the ferry. The harbour area is beautiful with stunning views. If you are looking for a 'local' experience with very friendly Maltese people this is definitely the place to be. Thank you Alfred
We have just spent two weeks at 'Alfie's Place @ The Alley and thoroughly enjoyed it. The house is ideal; very traditional but with all necessary 'mod cons', perfect for relaxing, cooking or just as a base. A nice location, very close to Birgu Square which, whilst also very traditional with its small bars, shops and restaurants, is aqlso very close to the waterfront with its new restaurants overlooking the harbour, giving the best of both worlds. Alfie is a great host, very much a local character, cheerful and at all times helpful. The location has great access to Valetta via the ferry and the lift (less than 30 minutes from front door to the top of the lift at Valletta) plus being a good starting point for walks around the Three Cities. Much history and many places of interest with easy walking distance. We WILL return!
Stayed in Birgu over Easter and really loved Alfie's place. The location is amazing, comfy dining area, and great to have a kitchen for breakfasts. Alfie kindly gave loads of advice and tips, both before we arrived and when we got there. He also was really quick to respond whenever we had a query or asked for help. Would definitely recommend and eagerly return!
We loved this place. Alfie, the owner, is a lovely friendly guy, and nothing is too much trouble. There was milk, bread, butter, ham and cheese, in the fridge when we arrived, enough to start us off until we familiarised ourselves with the local shops, of which there are plenty, the nearest being on the street corner. The property is lovely, with lots of space for four of us, we even made use of the washing machine as we had a child with us. Great location, with the historic Inquisitor's Palace just around the corner and the Malta at War museum just five minutes away. The main square is a 5 minute walk, where there is a regular bus service to Valletta, or the pretty harbour/ marina where you can get the ferry to Valletta, which runs every half hour, is just another few minutes away.
We've had a fabulous time, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place. We ll be back
