I've visited Huasquila 5 times with huge groups of teenagers. We had a blast and I felt great knowing they were learning and enjoying nature and being safe at the same time. The service received is superb! Please try their "champinones al ajillo" delicious!!!

just got back from huasquila, after a long weekend with our kids. They are still wishing to get back any minute!
the drive from Quito was a highlight for itself! Not a single dull moment! rise to the andean pass, fantastic paramo, crossed by an ancient lava flow as the gate to the Amazon. That is only the beginning! from here a modern, well paved road winds down flanking an incredible river into the dwarf, cloud and rainforest. Waterfalls, bare rocky cliffs, smooth-sloped plantations are the path to a newly opened section of the trans amazonian road: to the left (west) the Antisana Reserve, and to the right (east) the Sumaco reserve. this outh to be one of the most amazing roads in South America!!! then we reach Huasquila.
from the moment we arrived, the hosts have been on top of things to make sure everyone has a great time here. A cheff toured us 3 times a day along the wonders of local and ecuadorian cuisine. The take special care of food, water, juices and all that could easily spoil anyone´s vacations! We had a great experience getting there, being there, on the walks, at the pool, at the restaurant or in our spacious bungallow! certainly worth going!!

I am an adventure specialist from the UK, so I am very aware of standards and value for money. My reason for choosing Huasquila, was that I was doing a Galapagos trip but wanted a jungle experience before hand without the hassle of yet another flight. This option was perfect. I chose the option of the private transfer from Quito that Huasquila offered, granted it is much cheaper to get the local bus up to Cotundo and then a local taxi to the lodge, however the bus takes twice as long and does not give you any opportunity to stop and take pictures along the way, the car transfer takes about 3-4 hours whereas the local bus will take you about 7 hours.
I arrived at the lodge to a welcome cocktail and was shown to my room. It was an individual bungalow, with 3 single beds, a double sink in the bathroom and spacious separate shower. The finishing touch was the hammock on the terrace, where I could sit and relax and read my book or admire the beautiful view across the Amazon.
The chef on hand was Diego, who went out of his way to satisfy my every request. The food was fresh, plentiful and cooked to perfection.
The activities I partook in, was the animal sanctuary, small but nice to see. Canyoning - a tough walk for me but I am not a hiker, it gave you the opportunity to swim in a beautiful waterfall. A visit to the Kichwa tribe which was definately my highlight! and a jungle walk to learn about all the plants they use for medicinal purposes. These activities and a spanish guide is included in the nightly cost but if you are not practically fluent in Spanish, I would definately recommend paying the additional fee for an english guide to accompany you as well. This felt like such a personal service, as I was travelling alone and yet had 2 guides! There are also optional paid activities you can do such as rafting and horse riding. I did the 3 night 4 day option, which I think is really the minimum you should do.
Overall, Huasquila gave me a pleasant taste of what the Amazon has to offer. There are not too many bungalows and the lodge is family run, giving it that extra special feel, you are made to feel like part of the family and nothing is too much trouble. I will definately recommend this lodge to my customers in the future and I cannot wait to go back and see everyone.
Thank you Huasquila for making my stay a memorable one.

I traveled with a group of six to Huasquila Lodge. We had the four day, three night package including lodging, food, tours and transfers from Quito, Ecuador. We enjoyed our beautiful bungalows. The food was amazing. The tours were very interesting and we learned a lot about the flora of the jungle. Our guides' knowledge about the uses of the plants was very educational. The boat ride on the Napo River made us feel like we were discovering a new area of the world. The visit to the Chocolate Museum on the Napo River was also very enriching. Thanks to the folks at the Huasquila Lodge for a wonderful experience.

As a local I found Huasquilla as a great place to rest, but the short time I stayed didn't let me enjoy the place as I should, they need to improve or plan a schedule for travelers, looking for adventure or just to relax.

Food was good, maybe I'm being too demanding but a good coffee machine, not the regular instant powder would be great with those meals.

We stayed at the Huasquila Jungle Lodge for 3 nights. The lodge was located just outside of Cotunda. The lodge was well kept, the room was clean, and the gardens were beautiful. It was not deep in the jungle so therefore there isn't a lot of wildlife present. However, we did see lots of birds, insects, a snake, and smaller animals. We did 3 walks in the jungle and learned about medicinal plants, edible fruits/plants, etc. It was interesting and beautiful. We also visited an animal rescue center. The driver that picked us up in Quito and dropped us off drove a little crazy. The food was great except for some mushrooms that we ate. They made us sick. Other than getting sick from the mushrooms we had a wonderful time and would definitely return if we had the chance.

My husband and I were overwhelmed with all the lodges and options. We made a spreadsheet of what all we wanted and this lodge fit most of our criteria. When we got there we were overwhelmed with the beauty, cleanliness, and friendliness this lodge provided. Cecilia, the owner, was there and talked us through what our options were and helped us with our transport to and from Quito even with an extra trip to Tena that we had scheduled. They made sure we had everything we needed at all times, and the guides were fabulous. We even got to go grocery shopping with Cecelia, to get some fresh baked bread, fruit and fresh milk for our meals which was quite interesting. We felt like a part of the family. The outings we went on, jungle walk, jumandy caves, animal rescue center, and a white water trip added to the end were beyond anything we expected. We were never uncomfortable or worried about anything. The guides were very experienced and very easy to talk to (we have limited spanish). There was nothing lacking in my opinion as to the lodges care and concern for us, even so far as to give us a plastic bag for our digital camera so nothing would happen to it on the jungle walk. We felt completely at home and had the privacy when we wanted it as well as out of this world delicious and healthy foods. The lemonade is a must have, if you go (which you should) definitely request a glass!
