Nine days in June 2012. Flew Monarch from Manchester. My wife and I had a large en-suite at the front of the hotel with views of the mountains and the pretty village. Everything, shops, post office, chemist, ATMs, restaurants and picturesque harbour were all within easy walking distance. The hotel is modern (rebuilt after the war in former Yugoslavia), very clean and efficient. The beach is not tidal, is shingle (buy footwear locally) and all of five to ten meters from the open-air restaurant. The staff are very pleasant and helpful and the buffet-type restaurant food is plentiful and tasty. Drinks and snacks prices are OK for a 4*/5* hotel, but much less in the village restaurants and bars. There are indoor and outdoor salt water pools and lots of sunbeds and parasols. Oddly, toilet rolls seemed to be rationed in the bedrooms. One word of warning - travel by bus outside the village is tricky as the bus drivers are, without exception, surly and unhelpful. Fortunately, this does not apply to your fellow local passangers who came to our rescue.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea-facing room - you might be lucky.

Second stay here fortified my opinion that this is IT.
Beautiful located, luxurious, wery well maintained and modern hotel with best kitchen i have ever tasted. Staff does maximum for you as a normal thing. Beach is wonderful and PRIVATE!!! Lots of place and beds here. You do not need to place towels on them like a fool early morning. Pool is big and clear like just filled everytime.
Beach is good for chilren with calm sea with almost no waves.
Rooms are great also.
Best choice in Croatia for me, I will return many times ;)
The tranquility of the place is amazing.

The hotel is truly 5 star. Very beautiful and modern, and has everything you need. There are 2 local restaurants and 2 small supermarkets a short stroll from hotel which add authentic appeal.

The town itself is tiny and not a lot to do. So if you're looking for something secluded and complete and utter relaxation, then this is for you.

We stayed for a week in this hotel 14th-21st June 2012.

HOTEL & BEACH

Beautiful hotel with a lovely spacious design. Set right on it's own private beach. The beach is shail, which is excellent in that it doesn't stick to your sunlotion, so you always feel fresh and clean but it can be a bit painful on the feet. I wore my flip flops straight into the sea and then swam with them in my hands but most people had on the special sea shoes which you can easily buy at home, cheaply from Sports Direct or similar.
All sunloungers are free and they each have an umbrella in their fold, so no searching around to find one. We never had to hunt for an available bed as there are plenty to go round.
The large blue beach towels are in two convenient piles and you just help yourself. You do not have to give your room key, or a deposit. You simply take as many as you like and then leave them on the sunlounger at the end of the day.
There are pedalos and kayaks for use. I believe they make a small charge, although we did not use them. There is a kind of office near to the outside bar, where you can organise this.
The beach is private to the hotel but you can get to it without going into the hotel, if you know what you're doing and we did notice a group of people doing this.

THE RESTAURANT

The restaurant is buffet style. There is not a set table, so you choose where you want to sit and then go to the buffet for your meal. If you are looking a bit lost, as we were on day one, the waiter will rush to your aid show you to a table.
Breakfast is all the usual cooked food plus cold hams, pancakes, pastries and lots of fresh fruit. (Earier review comments on lack of fresh fruit but this has obviously changed.)
Lunch can be taken at the poolside bar and is reasonably priced.
Dinner is a mixture of lots of different meat dishes, veg, soup, etc All very tasty. They don't seem to go for pasta at all, except for gnocchi which in this instance, would be used instead of potatoes/chips.
Lots of variety of wines, beers etc. Not 'holiday measures' though! They are measured as they are at home, which is just wrong!!
All extras, like drinks and lunches can either be paid for in cash at the time or put onto your room to be paid at the end of the holiday. We kept a running total and at the end of the week there were no anomalies, which was excellent.

STAFF

The staff are absolutely fantastic. Nothing is too much trouble, really. They all speak pretty good English and are extrememly genuinely helpful.
Particular thanks goes to the two Ivica's, Ana M and Martina.
They all spoke well of the hotel and the manager, who was also around all the time and most pleasant.

ROOMS

I was with a friend and we had a twin bedded room (2 singles) which were fine. The room was overlooking the pool and was large, as was the bathroom.
Extremely clean and the shower head was large and the shower powerful.
A robe each and slippers each.
We did not use the mini bar. We bought a six pack of water from the little shop outside and kept it in the room.
The door entry system is card presented and always worked first time, which is unusual!

EVENING ENTERTAINMENT

The hotel is quiet and everyone seems to go to bed at 10.30! I mean really, the place empties and they must go to bed as there is nowhere else to go!
There was a man in the lobby playing piano sometimes and a group singing by the pool, which was very poorly attended on one other night.
The nightclub is on the 1st floor and operates on a Sat and Sun night and is open until 1pm. However, there were only 3 of us in there and according to the staff, it never does much more business even in peak season. It's a shame as it is quite a lovely, upmarket club and the music was good.
If I could take the hotel and put it next to the old town in Dubrovnik, it would be even more perfect.

LATE DEPARTURES

You can pay to keep your room on after 12 if it is possible and it costs about £40. There is no courtesy room but you can use the wellness centre to have a shower and get ready for your trip home.
The only thing lacking in the wellness centre is a hairdryer or a plug socket to plug your own dryer into, which was annoying as I have long, thick hair. I spent the day not getting my hair wet as I had already checked for drying facilities, which was a shame.

I would definitely go back if I wanted a week of peace and quiet...or if I were seriously loaded and could afford to take a taxi to the old town every night and eat out there, for the entertainment.

Room Tip: Always worth the extra to look over the beach.

Having just returned from a week at the Admiral Hotel, I dont usually bother, writing a review about our holiday.

However, I would like to say that the Hotel and surrounding area were excellent very clean and perfectly safe for swimming.

The hotel staff, couldnt have been more helpful, the "buffet syle" food was always well prepared and good choices of either fish or meat were offered.

The dining room was well appointed and you could sit either inside or out, and you had splendid views of the area, over looking the beach.

The dining room staff, were always at hand to assist if required and the restaurant manager, was always available and assisted when neccessary.

Excursions arranged throught the hotel, "Elite Travel" were very good value for money, and the company used the services of very good and well - presented guides.

We went on the 3 island cruise, and also a visit to the island of Korcula, both trips were to the highest quality.

During our stay we visited the "old town" of Dubrovnic, by bus (approx £3-00), and had an amazing time walking around the city wall, before using the cable car for splended views of the island.

I have nothing negative to say, about the hotel, and will definately be returning.
Well done to both staff and management, on running such a superb hotel.

Regards,

Chris Jackson.
Surrey.

Room Tip: Suggest choosing a room with a "sea view" however, the rooms at the rear of the hotel over...

Just back today from a week in slano Admiral Grand Hotel, so thought i would share my honest opinion about the place and the hotel.Firstly slano is a small village / town with its own wee harbour the place is very clean, there are a few bars and restuarants 2 small supermarkets and a wee bakery, the hotel is roughly bang in the middle of slano,so if you go walking it will take approx 20 mins each way, but if you wish to keep walking like we did then you just keep going on the rougher ground then you can go a bit further.
The hotel its self is excellent, 1st class accomadation, very friendly staff, just a beautiful and peacefull place to go if you want a relaxing away from it all break.

The hotel Admiral sits in a quiet bay around one hour’s bus journey from central Dubrovnik. The village of Slano is quite a busy little place within the centre with lots of locals still living in the village and a couple of bars and restaurants. It’s a lovely, safe place to walk around and explore and you can easily take yourself off to of the small swimming areas further around the cove within a 20 min walk.

The hotel itself is a modern, light and airy building which has lots of communal spaces and a great private beach with beautifully crystal blue, clean waters. All of the public areas are very well maintained and we never had any issues securing a comfortable sun lounger (or complimentary beach towels which are replenished endlessly) on the beach, or one of the outdoor settees to lounge in on the terrace. Everything about the hotel is spotlessly clean, from the room to the beach. The only niggle was that none of the pools were heated whilst we were there and that the hydrotherapy features weren’t working in the main pool, this may have been a temporary problem but if its policy not to heat them in summer they may want to wait a little longer before turning off the heat as the water was a little bracing!

We had a mountain view room which was well furnished with plenty of storage, had a nice bathroom with a good shower, a lovely balcony overlooking the mountains and good quality bed linen and again the cleaning was excellent.

We were staying at the hotel on a half board basis (only £30 extra each for four nights, booked through Jet 2 – a bargain for the quality of food) and the food was excellent at both breakfast and the evening buffet, the drinks were also reasonable priced, in fact quite comparable to what you would expect to pay in a UK bar. We ate on a terrace overlooking the bay each night and could have spent hours on end there with the relaxed atmosphere in the restaurant and the beautiful view.

If I could have rated the hotel an extra half star I would and the only real reason for not giving it the full excellent rating is that when I compared the facilities and the service to that of other 5 star hotels that I’ve stayed, the hotel Admiral wasn’t quite as polished. That said I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel to others (and in fact I already have), it’s a lovely environment for a relaxing break and I do most definitely hope to return – I’ll just have to make sure it’s for longer next time!

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floor have better balconies.
