When we arrived at The Hotel Osmine we were accommodated in the annexe which is a separate building to the hotel. At first we were a little disappointed as we thought we were being sold short but on reflection the annexe is better. Granted the rooms are likely smaller and more basic than the hotel but there is the advantage of not having to walk back and forth up the many steps or steep slope back to the hotel room. We are a couple both in our 60's with average fitness so were not too bothered by the steps or slope but I could see this as being a problem for others.
I don't know if there is a lift in the hotel but there is none In the annexe so carrying bags up 4 flights of stairs can be difficult. The one time I did find the slope a problem was the last day when we had to go to the hotel reception to check out, dragging a case up a steep slope left me quite breathless.

That said this is a great hotel with a range of free facilities. We took daily advantage of the free bike hire. Cycling from the hotel to Bunja is about 5/6 miles return trip along the coast with stunning scenery and as it is flat all the way it is a great for all fitness levels if you don't cycle walking this route is just as easy.

All in all we were very pleasantly surprised with this hotel, it's facilities and it's location. Yes there are negatives which may put some people off but if you holiday here you will not be disappointed.

If the hotel owners read these reviews they could improve things by having golf type carts to take your luggage to and from your accommodation and maybe also install lifts.

Room Tip: If you have mobility problems you may want to be accommodated on the lower floors or in the annexe.

Hotel Osmine 3* hotel in a 5* setting

I write this review with 15 years of using all incisive hotels, I hope you find it useful
FACT The hotel is not in Slano but located 2 miles SW in a village called Grguici
To reach Slano (and the bus stop) requires a 40 to 60 minute walk, dependent on you ability.
The flattest and the most scenic is along the shore line. The other route maybe a little quick but does include steep inclines.
The number 12 bus (which cost 23kn each way) does not take you into Dubrovnik old town. You will require to take another bus, 1A or 1B, from the outskirts, or alternatively walk (about 20 to 30 mins)

Hotel
Reception: Polite and quick in booking in, after that they are of little use, unless you speak German, Russian, Croatian or similar. (2/5)
Lifts: only take four persons, or two with luggage
Bedrooms: Typical 3* layout, fairly roomy, a little tired but nice views from the balcony (4/5)
Service: very good and helpful (4/5)
Bar Cafe: This is only open after 5pm, if you are unable to reach the pool bar due to inactivity or poor weather, you will be stuck here without any form of liquid. The more people complain about this, the more something maybe will change (1/5)
Restaurant: Breakfast: Same food each day, do not expect a full english. The cooked food was hot and kept topped up (2/5)
Lunch: Wide choice of food, (hot and cold) not a la carte, but unless you are a fussy eater, you will never starve (3/5)
Dinner: Slightly more choice than lunch with both hot and cold meals available, you wont starve. Food trays were rarely kept full, but topped up regularly, so that food never gets cold. (3/5)
Spirits and refreshments: Coffee and tea are obtained via self service machines, very limited fringe of spirts well below 20% proof, beer OK (3/5)
Setting: Wonderful scenery, beach clean and water clear. The sun beds, umbrellas are free as are the pedalos, bikes, table tennis, tennis etc. I do wonder at peak times if there will be enough room for all the guests to sunbath (5/5)
If your fit, do walk the shore line to Slano, views absolutely stunning. Tip take plenty of liquid.
Waiters: similar to reception and other bar staff, very efficient, but low on conversation, unless you speak in a language they understand. They are never rude or uncaring, just wish they would smile a bit more (2/5)
Entertainment: Very poor, they try but it is not up to other hotels of similar standard (1/5)

Steps: I expect you wondered if I would mention them. Yes, they are there, having done your research, accept them. However if you are not active, have difficulty in breathing or walking, then reconsider this hotel as an option, The views are stunning but come at a small price.
This is a really nice hotel, and is value for money, providing you are fit and weather is good,
There is a mini-bus service to Dubrovnik which runs three or four times a day at 110kn return per person (min of 4 persons)
Taxis are almost non existent, but when Dubrovnik, I enquired about cost to Slano and was quoted 300-350kn per taxi one way
Yes I would recommend this hotel

Room Tip: Select a room in the main complex If you arrive with a large group, lifts only take four persons or...

Myself and a friend stayed at the Osmine for 1 week from 4th June,The hotel was clean and the food was fine with self service beer and wine at mealtimes,The views were breathtaking.we paid £30 each for rooms in the main hotel and were glad we did after speaking to guests who were staying in the annexe and had no views and were above the restraunt with a noisy generator,Overall we enjoyed our holiday here the free bikes pedelos and canoes were a bonus. The hotel seems to cater for mostly german and french guests..A few niggles as always....The lobby bar did not open until 5 pm so if you wanted a drink in the day it was the 120 steps down to the pool bar,if you wanted water for your room you had to buy a glass bottle. There were no mattresses for the sun loungers so quite uncomfortable,I would suggest you cycle into Slano a lovely village and buy water and a folding mattress. All in all we had a great time here.

Room Tip: If you take tonic with your drinks buy some in Slano as when you ask for a drink with tonic you get...

We just got back from the osmine and had a great holiday. Firstly we were knocked out by the fantastic views and tranquil atmosphere. It was great to cycle to slano on the flat following the shore line and have a drink at a taverns on the way. Just one or two niggles The food was ok but lack of signage was silly and the desert was just a little cake.the air con wasn't switched on till the last night so really uncomfortable sleeps. The steps we knew about so why complain but it would have made sense if the bar in the main hotel was open all day for drinks instead of 5pm.overall the holiday was brilliant. After reading some reviews I felt a bit worried but it was better than we could hoped. We met some great people that made the holiday . Hope you all ok .

Room Tip: We stayed in the main hotel second floor great views

Set in the most beautiful of surroundings this hotel is unfortunately a major let down. 95% of the staff are rude and clearly do not want to help British guests. Manuel on reception is a clear exception to this though as he could not have been more helpful yet Emmanuel was totally rude to me and my friend (both females) and give us filthy looks at every opportunity. The all inclusive drinks consist of just 5 inferior quality spirits and 5 disgusting post mix options, all over sweet and tasting nothing like they should. No bottled water, not ice cream....need I say more
The complex is tired and dated and is in desperate need of a refurb.
Free pedalos and bikes are a good idea, however one of the 3 pedalos was broken and most of the bikes had flat tyres and you have to rerun them within the hour
Slano is beautiful and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a tranquil break in breath taking surroundings. Do choose a better hotel though

I have just got back from the Hotel Osmine in Slano and can truly say I had a wonderful time. The hotel is situated just outside of Slano village and has a stunning backdrop of the mountainous scenery alongside the generally very calm clear waters of the cove it is situated in.

I arrived around 9.30pm on the first night and so had missed the dinner time slot, however the hotel had been very kind and had made up a little platter to quell any hunger which I had. Having been finished we were then taken down to the annex, which is the location of the restaurant, barbers, beauty shop, and a couple of souvenir shops, and the bottom of the famous stairs... which run parallel to a sloped hill which leads down the other side of the complex and to the naturist end of the beach!! The steps while plentiful aren't too steep and are covered so that should the weather worsen there is no slip hazard.

The beaches of Slano are small stones and pebbles but these don't detract from the overall experience, and the seas are very clear. What is nice about Osmine is that the kayaks, pedalos, deckchairs and sun umbrellas and windsurfing are included in the price, which allows you freedom to travel the area to the other side of the cove where there is a church, or the actual town of Slano.
The other leisure amenities include one outdoor table tennis table, tennis courts, a volleyball court, basketball court and a small play area for children, although I would suggest that the hotel isnt very suitable for younger children.

The rooms were fairly basic, however were kept very clean by the friendly cleaning staff who would always great you in the morning. The double rooms are nothing more then two single mattresses pushed together, and the sheets and blankets were only single covers only unfortunately. The tv in the room was not very big however had a variety of different channels in languages, again the UK language channels (bloomberg, bbcnews and CBNC) werent too exciting on those days and evenings where you have half an hour before heading out.
The shower was good and had hot an endless supply of hot water, although the layout of the bathroom was somewhat cramped. There was also a small balcony area to the room, although depending where you stayed it was a hit and miss chance of getting a lovely coastal view.

Every day there were the usual set times of the food, and while the food offered no variety every morning, the lunch and dinners offered a change in what food was available. It would have been nice to have a few more dishes on the menu. Also the choice for vegetarians was somewhat limited to two or three items and of course salad, The only other qualm about the food was not all of it was labelled or labelled correctly. My partner is vegetarian and I found myself eating half the dishes to identify what she could eat.

The staff on the whole were friendly, a few were not so friendly and a lot of them seemed straightfaced, however if you make an effort to talk to them and have a laugh they seem to become more amicable to you. The entertainment team of Dragan, Lena and Luka do their best to make you enjoy the time you stay at the hotel, and run various activities throughout the day, before the evening entertainment at 9.30pm in the bar where they hold quizzes, bingo, music nights etc. The bar itself is stocked with only a variety of drinks (vodka, gin, rum, pear liquor which is very sweet, and mint liqour which is hideous, beer, wine and some soft drinks) and perhaps it would be nicer if there was a bit more choice.

All in all the hotel although it could be updated in places, was very nice. Being 3* you are not expecting the greatest hotel, however it did not disappoint and if I had a choice of returning there I would definitely return
