A comfortable hotel in a good location

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 22 Aug 2012
We stayed one night at this hotel during a road trip of Hokkaido. Our party had two rooms, both were very clean and comfortable if a little small. The breakfast was very good with a choice of Japanese or Western, the hotel staff were very helpful and friendly, it may have helped that our son who was travelling with us speaks Japanese. The hotel has a car park and we were not charged to use it.The Natulux is an excellent hotel but is expensive in comparison to 6 other hotels of similar standard that we stayed in during our holiday.

We have just stayed 2N at Furano Natulux from 2 - 4 July 2012.

The hotel is less than 5 mins walk from the Furano JR Station, which is an excellent location, especially when carrying heavy luggage. One can see the hotel as the JR train arrives into the station.

Natulux is a boutique hotel with tiny rooms at an expensive price (i.e, we could get a 4- 5 star hotel in Otaru or Sapporo for similar rates). It has a small reception area, which can get quite crowded when the JR train comes in with guests.

The double room is only around 160 sq ft. We had problems moving around the room, with only 2 pieces of luggage. The washroom is small, but comes with a bath tub. Natulux provides good quality toiletries, including a Lavender herbal bath salt. The bed is a queen sized one and comfortable. Somehow, we did not get a good sleep on both nights we were there, and suspected it could be to the bed being relatively small (a King size would be better).

For the breakfast included, guests can choose a standard Japanese or Western style set. The servings are large and delicious. However, the ingredients are almost the same for the 2 mornings we were there, so it could get boring for guests staying for longer days. The service at the cafe was excellent! The staff were always smiling, friendly and helpful.

All in all, we like Natulux for its proximity to the JR station. However, in consideration of the tiny room size and standard breakfast vs the high room rates, we would prefer alternative options if we return to Furano.

Good modern clean hotel.

Highlights:
- sleek modern rooms (abit compact, but that's usual in japan)
- helpful friendly staff
- free internet in the rooms!
- small public bath (not onsen, but still usable and nice to have a soak after a long day of sight-seeing)

negatives (minor, in our overall view):
- the blackout blinds were ineffective against strong morning sun, flooding our room with bright sunlight at 4.30am
- only 1 washing machine/dryer for the entire hotel which is probably not enough during peak ski season with many guests. we had to keep popping down to see if the previous user was done

I chose this hotel because of its location. It's centrally located beside Furano Station, near taxi stands, and has supermarket and restaurants within a few mins walk. However, because of the price, I decided to opt for a stay only plan, without breakfast. Wifi is available in the room if you borrow the wifi modem from the hotel reception. It also has a relaxing spa for both men and women for free if you are staying guests. The room is small, but it has all the ammentities provided. If you are looking for great convenience and willing to pay for it, then this hotel would suit you. If not, look for other options.

Natulux is an unexpected gem that deserves its current #1 rank! Modern, clean, comfortable, friendly staff, good breakfast, onsen, wifi, what else would one need for an enjoyable stay? I would not think twice about recommending this hotel.
