We stayed for one night on our drive from the Costa Blanca to Bilbao to catch the ferry. All double rooms were booked so we reserved a suite. The room was lovely, very clean and modern with a huge sitting area, large bathroom with spa bath and separate shower. We were on the top floor so it was very quiet and we had a very good night's sleep. We didn't have the best of times in Calatayud as we arrived on a public holiday (our fault - we should have checked!). Shops and restaurants were closed so we struggled to find anywhere to eat. Eventually we gave up and came back to the hotel bar for tapas but had to wait until after 9 pm. The hotel restaurant was closed! All in all the hotel is nice enough and was ideal for us to break our journey. Parking underground was reasonably easy and the hotel was easy to find.

We picked calatayud as the first stop in our honeymoon when doing the interrail from the south to the north of Europe. We expected a very cheap (37€ including breakfast ) two stars hotel, but we actually got a very decent 3 stars, so it was value for the price. Well located, close to the train station and to the city centre, it didnt look very lively, but the room was tidy, the bathroom clean, the bed quite hard, which I like and besides that, there was a spa, which without being amazing, did its job when the weather was rainy. The breakfast was basic, but decent. On the overall, really good value for less than 40€ for a double room!

We stayed in this hotel recently for two nights whilst visiting the area. When you arrive from the direction we came from (Madrid) it didn't look in the most amazing location and seemed like it was out of town as there wasn't much to be seen around. However, we were wrong as just a few minutes walk was all of the bars and restaurants, so good location. The hotel itself is fine, for me, pretty basic but nice. The room was nicely decorated. We did have a problem with our air conditioning though as we couldn't change the temperature which meant a cold night!

The breakfast was pretty basic but fine. It was a more typical spanish continental style with bread, ham, cheese, fruit and yoghurt but it nicely presented and they kept the food topped up.

We used the spa when we were there and it was very nice. We were lucky to have booked an early evening time to do the circuit and we were alone which was great as it is fairly small. However, it is very well maintained and has all of the basics you'd expect. It would get very crowded though if you had several people.

Overall a nice place if you need to stop somewhere for a couple of nights. I have given it a rating of three though as for me it was pretty average (but not in a bad way!) and it's not somewhere I'd think that I really must go back to as it wasn't amazing. But all in all good!

I was really impressed - The Castillo is rated as a 3-star hotel (which in Spain sometimes is not a valid reference for representing a decend standard) - Dropping in late, we decided to visit the restaurant for dinner first. There we enjoyed a delicous 3-course menue incl. table wine at 15,-€/person which was freshly cooked, tasty and delicous. In addition: the service in the restaurant was perfect.
Rooms are clean - more than functional ... as the hotel is close to the motorway we can recommend to stay for a relaxing night once you - as we were - are on a long journey crossing Spain.
