Very nice hotel, clean, good location. The food is great, both the breakfasts (buffet style) and the dinners. Staff were very friendly.

Exactly what it says on the can - great little family run hotel in a brilliant ski area.

Love the Wolf behind the bar and the beautiful Michele. The dubious thigh slapping musicians during festival week and the overtired but happy look on the watresses face when she got lucky one night (yes we all knew). Lovely atmosphere throughout our stay.

Would definitely recommend and we will probably go back.

Room Tip: be careful on the stairs to the ski boot room . . .

I use TA a lot, and to be honest don't manage to write reviews....

...however, the really poor representation of Hotel Rododendro motivated me to write, the people behind these reviews clearly didn't get a good deal - as long as you don't expect luxury you wont be disappointed!

This hotel was excellent, for the price it was better than we expected, first off -

FOOD

Two of my party are veggie and the food was great - not world class by any means but lots of it and plenty of variety for veggies.

the "veggie" menu (ask for it when you arrive) is flexible - they let you chose things from the meat menu if you like (there's veggie options there too). There wasn't wine in our deal (but then there was a free ski pass so who's counting!?!) - but the house red is local and nice for euro12. The meal is 4 courses, the antipasta is a big salad and pizza spread, the starter soup or pasta, then a meat (or veggie) course and a simple desert - no tripe in sight! (see previous reviews for poeple who clearly don't know how to find a competitive deal!).

Breakfast has croissants, bread, cold meat, cereal and tea. the only really bad thing is the "espresso" coffee machine which is horrible. you can always order proper stuff from the bar - though its UHT milk (like most places we visited in the Dolomiti region - who says Italians know good coffee??!)

ROOMS

The rooms are clean, old school but functional - plenty of space, balconies and decent bedding (again, there wasn't a trace of smoke on any of our three rooms' linen). OK showers - and a bidet, which is clearly essential.

FACILITIES

For the price - these were first rate, ski locker with warmer for boots, sauna for free, ancient gym (seriously - who needs a gym on a snowboarding holiday?!) and a bar that's OK if a little expensive. Staff are attentive, the dog is big but asleep and the bus stops outside.

VILLAGE

the village is OK - there's some good bars (great tapas @ Bar Evita) but hardly pumping, but none of the towns in this valley are

TIPS

**Beware of the local taxi - we got stung for a euro25 trip that was <10mins
**ask how the dinner works - if veggie ask for that menu when you arrive
**learn Russian, in the compact sauna you'll want something to talk to the sweaty guy next to you! (the whole hotel seemed to be Russian when we were there)
**get the super ski pass - you would be mad not too
**pay a visit to the euro1 grappa bar half way down the big red slope from the top of the cable car to the campitello - preferable every time you go past

Room Tip: Beer is cheaper in the nearby supermarket....

We stayed here on a ski trip having read some reviews on here and being a bit worried. This hotel is a lot better than some of these reviews may imply.

Some of the reviews on this site have seemed harsh as this hotel offered really good value for money and the staff are very accommodating.

I think that you get good value for money - the hotel is clean, comfortable and the atmosphere is very friendly. If you ask for anything then the staff will get this done for you with a smile and promptly. The room was always cleaned to a good level and everything worked as expected. It's a "no frills" room for very reasonable money within a really good ski area, what do you expect.

If you get the included meals, they are tasty and are clearly there to fill you up with carbohydrates for the next day. Always served with a smile and always enough variation to make it feel that you aren't at eating English rubbish. Of all of the English people there when we stayed (70%) most people only ate out once during the whole week which must imply something. There is a really good and cheap pizzeria across the street though. Everyone appeared happy at all other times from what we saw. You can't expect truffles and champagne for this money.

It has been mentioned that the staff act favourably towards Italian and Germans but we didn't find this the case at all. If you make the effort to learn some Italian along the way you may find that the staff are a lot more friendly than if you turn up expecting this to be an English resort. That extends to further than the hotel too.

The resort itself is fantastic for skiing and this hotel is right in the middle. It is very close to the main gondola ski-lift, but there is a free bus to all other main parts of the ski area. Everything is 5 minutes away from here but this is a quiet village with only a few lively bars.

There is a ski-locker, sauna and gym, you just have to ask. If you ask the way the restaurant works on the first day it makes life easier for the rest of the week.

Read previous reviews after booking our holiday and so had some concerns about what to expect. Our concerns were unfounded though
Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The food was fine and adequate, as expected of a 3* hotel - and the staff in the dining room were helpful and very friendly.
Location was very handy for the ski bus and for village ameneties
We enjoyed our stay here and in the resort.

Queue at cable car can get very long. Having breakfast a bit earlier and getting to cable car base soon after 8.30 opening will normally save you over an hours wait - Queue builds up soon after 9.00

My daughter and I have just had a very good week at The Rododendro, this is a 3 star family ran Italian hotel which offers all you need to enjoy a skiing holiday. The hotel was clean, comfortable and warm. The food was very good with an excellent vegetarian option, portions were large and the waitress could not have been more helpful, when my daughter was unwell she went out of her way to help. The ski bus stops outside but it is only a 5 minute walk to the centre of the town and 10 minutes to the lift. We were made very welcome and have no complaints.

We actually stayed in the Annex (Garni Festil) across the road and found it clean, comfortable and everything you would expect for its star rating, fresh towels when needed, very clean and non smelly, extra pillows when required. Staff were very friendly, we overcame the language barrier with lots of smiles although their english was excellent in comparison to our italian. Food was no different to what you would get in any other country, buffet breakfast 'continental' style with the option of hot chocolate, cappucino amongst other things. Our evening meals (as we were staying on a half board basis) were taken over at the rododendro across the road, a stones throw away, the food was good quality with a good selection each evening. If you were vegetarian the option was limited as Italians don't understand vegetarian but they made the effort.

Our rep, Brenda, was great, very friendly, very cheerful and always available. Have her mobile number with you as you may need it even just for reassurance.

Would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a place to sleep after a days skiing without any fuss, if you want five star pay for it.

Would also recommend getting the bus to Canazei in the mornings as shorter queues for the lift but you will have to learn to push and shove along with the best of them to get on as polite queueing does not exist in most of Europe. You can ski into Canazei at the end of the day, catch the road train and we recommend catching the bus home at the bottom of the gondala as easier to get on. The pick up for buses is outside the door of the hotel and delivery back is almost the same.

Lift system is exceptional, fast, reliable and top class, skiing awesome, totally out of this world, the orange sellaronda circuit is definitely worth trying if you are an average skier or above, and the mountain restaurants totally yummy.
