We have stayed here for two seasons, early April each time.
La Rosiere, a real alpine resort starting at near 200m, is a hidden gem in terms of good snow and skiing, including the tie up with the Italian side of the Alps towards the San Bernardo pass. You can also heliski in Italy, which is forbidden in France - the pick up spot in at San Bernardo is just a few lifts away from the resort. Hotel, Resturants and Bars are rather reasonable compared with Val d'isere and Courchevel and the skiers are predominatly French.
Chalet Matzusaka is a lovely place to stay. The English couple who built and run this small Hotel are both friendly and very hard working. The rooms are larger than most, with en suite bathrooms. The free Japanese spa is great after a day of hard skiing, hottubs and sauna included. Dinner is set piece, with different styles each evening, great food and wines included.
Could not have a better stay and will come back again. Our children and their friends loved it too.
