Chalet Matsuzaka Hotel & Spa
Ranked #4 of 9 Hotels in La Rosiere
Reviewed 6 May 2010

We had a wonderful week in Chalet Matsuzaka at Easter this year. Great hospitality - it was like being house guests in a lovely home and was certainly far and away the best chalet we've stayed in. We were a party of 18, 4 families with our offspring - mostly starving students, rather like a plague of locusts - and we were extremely well catered for. Fabulous food and lovely wines were served up every evening and devoured with relish. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and a wallow in the Japanese Spa was the perfect way to end the day. Faye and Mike worked really hard to ensure our stay was a success , which it certainly was. They sorted out ski passes, instructors and anything else we needed, including our transfer bus. We'll definitely be back.

Chalet Matsuzaka is absolutely beautiful and by far the best chalet I've ever stayed in.

The Chalet is run by Faye & Mike, Sarah & Pete, who were all so welcoming and friendly. They gave us loads of time & space to settle in and made us feel completely relaxed.

Our room, like the rest of the chalet was stunning and so homely... just perfect. Waking up that first morning seeing the view from the chalet balcony was pretty special! The food & wine was fantastic, we were given a menu with several options to choose from for breakfast and dinner each day and the afternoon cakes in our room were way too nice not to be eaten!
The japanese spa was also beautiful, with a sauna, indoor & outdoor jacuzzi bath surrounded my snow! Great place to chill out after a days skiing & lots of wine!

The skiing was great, as we were lucky to have quite a bit of snow that week. Was just a 5 min walk to Les Euchert lifts. We especially loved the fact that we could ski all the way to the boot room door from La Papion run. The chalet's boot room was really well equipped too.

La Rosiere is a great resort is stunning and a very friendly community. There are plenty of bars in Les Eucherts & La Rosiere. There's a pretty woodland walk down into La Rosiere. If you go out for some drinks, there's a very quiet bar next to the Saint Bernard Hotel was run by a lovely man, who gave us far too many free vin chauds! (which came red, white and blue!) Also to eat out on the night off, there's lots to choose from but Genepi in La Rosiere is highly recommended! :)

We had a perfect honeymoon & will never forget the time we spent there. We will definately be going back to stay again and really looking forward to it.

I stayed at the Chalet Matsuzaka in February 2008 for a half term break with 2 of my boys (11 &17). I was surprised by how good it was. A local hotelier had put me in touch and suggested it might be ‘pricey’ but it turned out to be excellent value.

The Chalet is clearly a cut above most offerings and is well designed and planned with skiing to the back door possible at the end of the day.

The bedrooms are generous in size and the fittings are first class. The 3 of us had ample room to stretch out and were not overcrowded in any way.

The owners took care to introduce everyone at pre-dinner drinks and a friendly atmosphere resulted. The food was gourmet standard but all tastes were catered for and often at short notice in the case of my youngest son.

The Japanese bath was a welcome relief at the end of the day and being British we did of course wear trunks at all times. Just as well when we shared with another family we befriended. This bath is something more than the standard out door hot tub. The bathing area is a touch of luxury not found in most hotels.

The owners really have thought of most things to make a holiday as near perfect as you could wish but were still keen to discuss individual requirements and improve (if that were possible).

Parking was free and secure in the ground level garage, lift passes were delivered to the rooms, the equipment store was integrated and equipment hire only yards away. The Chalet was spotless, dry and warm aided by leaving out door shoes in the front lobby to add to the feeling that you are ‘home’ once inside.

I tried to book again in 2009 but the Chalet was full. I was looking at 2010 when I noticed reviews had popped up and felt I should add my comments. I recommended the Chalet to all my friends in 2008 and the only hesitation I have is in case the Chalet is always fully booked in future.

We stayed here in April for the skiing and decided to come back in the summer for the views, Tour de France and because we liked the place so much. La Rosiere is beautiful with a great homely atmosphere and Chalet Matsuzaka was lovely. I've stayed in a lot of chalets/hotels and this one could not be faulted. The place was very spacious, impeccable, food was gorgeous and the owners are really friendly and could not do enough for you. I don't normally write reviews but felt compelled to do so this time as I love the place and want others to benefit from it.

Chalet Matsuzaka has been designed and effected with luxury in mind from start to finish, as will be seen by those who have travelled extensively in style across the world. Having visited this chalet hotel for the last 3 years in a row, in winter and in summer, I am always pleased to arrive at this haven nestling in a very charming and still french mountain village.

The all embracing attitude of the owners encourages people to make the most of their time there or to just relax and chill in the open plan lounge. Their years spent in both france and japan influences their operation in both overt and subtle ways.

Chalet Matsuzaka offers a mountain holiday experience above the rest for those who have earned the right to enjoy.

Do try La Rosiere, wast alpine skiing resort and lots of snow. If you take the plunge, stay at Chalet Matsuzaka; a real gem of a place, with great facilities (outdoor/indoor japanese hot bath!!) and run by a young and enthusiastic English couple Faye and Mike. Food and wine is well above average and the rooms are all large and comfortable. We have come here for 3 years after a chance lucky escape from Courchevel and our teenage children love the place too.

From time to time we have taken business friends and clients skiing in Meribel, Courchevel and Verbier. La Rosiere and Chalet Matzusaka came recommened by word of mouth as an alternative. They were not wrong.

Chalet Matzusaka is charming, very comforatble, well run, with nice food and wine. Les Patrons Anglaise could not have done more for us. A few minutes easy walk from the best slopes and a fun ski home to the back door coming home. Apres Ski in the wonderfully warm outdoor Japanese Spa, followed by a nap and then dinner was great for all of us and our guests settled in very happy. Two of them will book family holidays there this year.

This is a snowsure 2000m plus resort. Skiing is great for all abilities, including the wast Italian side, with some real treasures of lunchtime restaurants on the slopes (particularly on the Italian slopes. You ski in real alpine and varied terrain and we did not que for a week in any of the lifts. What more could you want?
