Chalet la Bergerie
Reviewed 17 April 2014

We are a family who have just returned from a week in this luxurious chalet at the end of the winter season. Laura and her team (Laura [#2], Tate, Rory, Olivier and Graham) were a credit to SnowCrazy. They all worked hard to ensure that we had a fabulous week. The bedrooms were a little compact and slightly lacked hanging / shelving space. However, the social space downstairs was vast and our chalet as a whole more than made-up for the snow conditions. Canapés and three sumptuously tasty courses followed by cheese (when we could fit it in!) were all lovingly prepared and were accompanied by free-flowing wine across the evening; our chef, Tate, was able to create his own menus, all of which were VERY, VERY good. There was even a special banoffee pie birthday cake for our son. Importantly, the chalet was also clean (thanks to Laura [#2]’s very regular dusting). As a resort, La Rosiere was nicely ‘cosy’, and its runs are suited to the intermediate level skier that it is pitches at. The snow was nearing the ‘end of season’ state and as a result the conditions were better on the Italian side, a wee trek for beginner skiers. The food served by the restaurants on the slopes was pretty poor, but that’s no reflection on our holiday. We took the minibus provided by SnowCrazy to the slopes but caught the bus back, simply because we didn’t know when we’d finish. SnowCrazy also organised the transfers, which were seamless. We will be looking to book with SnowCrazy again. Thoroughly recommended! Thoroughly brilliant!

The chalet was run by Snow Crazy and we stayed in the Chalet over Xmas. The chalet rooms were all taken but space never seemed an issue.
The downstairs chalet layout was excellent with largish areas around the open log fire, a TV area and the dining area. (Plus table football) There was also a separate boot/ski room and large entrance space for outside shoes. The spacious downstairs more than made up for the smallish bedrooms, but since we spent little time in them this was not an issue, although they could do with a touch more hanging space.
The rooms we had each had showers and there was plenty of hot water whenever required and we were also able to control the temperature to make sure we didn't have uncomfortably hot nights as we have suffered at some other skiing accommodation where we have had to have windows open.
The chalet also benefited from a hot tub which could accommodate about half the guests at once. Nice to relax after a hard day on the slopes.

Now to the food and our resident chef (Rob). It was excellent all round with canapes followed by 3 course meals, then cheese round the fire. It was clear that a lot of effort had gone into both the menu and food preparation. Particular comment should be made about the vegetarian option which was the best we have ever experienced. No standard vegetarian fare was served (unless requested) and as much care was spent on this as for the other dining guests. A very welcome change as the vegetarians seem to get the rough end of the stick in many cases.
This was a huge step up from some of the other chalets we have stayed at where meals seem to be more thrown together.

Location wise we were provided with minibus lifts up to and from the slopes each day (3-4 mins), but is you wanted to go or come back at ay other time the ski bus stop was just across the road. The bus provided easy access to either the main or satellite resort and ran every 15 mins till about 8pm each day. We didn't use the ski familiarisation offered by our resident expert, but he did provide some very useful tips on good areas to ski.

Hire equipment was fitted in the comfort of the chalet and saved dashing off to the rental store on arrival. Lift passes were also available (pre-ordered in chalet).

Towards the end of the week we had a visit from the people who run the company to see how things were going. Much better than a form to fill in.

We also had transfers from the airport to the chalet.

If you are looking to link across to Italy there were some days when this was not possible due to high winds / avalanche risk.

I would certainly recommend a stay at this chalet to anyone who wants a great skiing holiday with excellent food and service.
