I haven't stayed in this hotel, as first approach was very unfriendly! I asked for prices and as I stated that they seamed a bit high in my opinion, the receptionist laughed right into my face! No typical Italian cordiality! I wouldn't recommend this hotel as first impression usually means a lot! There are much nicer hotels and bed and breakfasts in Montelupo. On the same day I visited Camminfacendo Bed and Breakfast and booked it, not only because rooms were very nice, but also because reception was much more friendly and definitely not as impolite as the elder man in Granducato!

Signor Rolando, fluent in several languages (including English), Fannie and Francesco run a lovely, spacious, welcoming, bright, clean hotel. Breakfast: toast, selection of meats, cheeses, cereals, silky-smooth delicious custard, yogurt, pastries, fresh fruit, and cafe'/cappuccino made to order. Il Pianeto and Osteria Livornese are nearby for evening meals. Vezziso's on main town street has fabulous pastries, espresso and panini sandwiches. Located 5 min walk from Pisa-Florence train. Excellent for business travel or quiet well-behaved families.

We stayed here for 2 nights and enjoyed it very much. The hotel is close to Montelupo's nice center, close to the train station (half an hour to Florence Sta Maria Novella, 4.50 EUR return ticket). The mattress was good, the bathroom just the way you need it to be. The owner was very helpful, recommended taking the train to Florence, recommended a wonderful pottery shop (DC Dolfi) and an excellent Pizzeria around the corner. The breakfast in the hotel was good. When going to Florence next time, we will definitely stay at Granducato again.

Room Tip: During the week make sure you book well in advance

This is a newly built hotel and has been immaculately maintained. The fixtures and fittings are of the highest quality and I have never had better coffee at breakfast. There was a mix up with the booking but the owner could not have been more charming and sorted it out quickly. He even allowed us to leave the car free of charge in one of the hotels' parking spaces in the nearby car park while we got the train to Florence for the night.
This town would be an ideal base to see the sights of Tuscany because there are frequent direct trains to Florence, Siena and Pisa. Indeed Montelupo is worth a visit in its own right.

I just stayed for 2 nights while on a business trip to the area. The staff were friendly, remembered my name, spoke good English. The room was clean, well equipped. There was a TV but I didn't try it. No kettle with tea/coffee in the room but available in the lobby (I take a travel kettle with me to Italy and France...).
I was in room 402 which has a view to the castle on the "mountain".
It's in a partly pedestrianised area so little/no noise.
The shower was perfect for me.
Intertnet connection was 6 Euro for 24 hours - not bad and a good connection for skype etc home. They give you a cable to plug in and a password/ID as you launch a browser.
Breakfast was quick and good.
Perfect for a business traveller wanting a good 3star hotel.
There is a minibar in the room but the locals go to the square just outside the hotel and fill bottles with free mineral water provided by the town (I think the tap water is not the best tasting but I didn't try it...)

Hotel is relatively newly opened and nicely decorated. Rooms are spacious with en-suite bathrooms and air-conditioning. Buffet-style cold breakfast is included with lovely italian coffee. The hotel is situated right in the centre of Montelupo which is a gorgeous village in the heart of tuscany. There is a great piazza outside the hotel with a few coffee shops and bars and a delicious pizzeria selling pizza by the slice.
