If you are looking for somewhere in the South where you can easily get a copy of The Mirror or Die Welt, then this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a rural retreat, far from the maddening crowds, where you are the only foreigners in the local supermarket - then this is the place from you.
We stayed in the smallest house (Casa El Almendro) and loved it. It is wooden (fabulous) and small but has everything that you need. Apparently the mezzanine level is a little hot in the height of Summer but was brilliant for us in March/April. You have a fully fitted kitchen, lovely bathroom with shower, a sofa bed downstairs if you fancy a change and a brilliant bbq outside purely for your use. The outside area was an amazing bonus for our holiday. You have plenty of room, private parking, and space to sunbathe, eat, cook. You can also wander around the orchard and help yourself to lemons, oranges, apples from the trees. Bliss. There is also a small shared heated swimming pool.
The views are outstanding. We arrived in the cloud (it is very high up - you will do the last bit in first gear) and only got to appreciate the sea views. When we got up the next day and saw Mount Tiede on the other side of the house we saw that it is a spectacular view.
You need a car. There is a tiny supermarket within a couple of minutes walk and a little bar as well. Otherwise, 5 min drive to the supermarkets in Icod de los Vinos. They are open 09.00 - 21.00 most days (busiest at about 19.00) and have parking. San Marcos beach is 5 mins drive, the southern resorts about an hour and a half, Puerto is only 15 mins and Santa Cruz only 40 mins away, as is the glorious sandy beach at San Andres. The Finca is very close to the T5 so you can get anywhere within an hour and a half!! The caves are 5 mins walk away if you feel adventurous.
Our hosts, Emilio and Corine, are really helpful and add some brilliant touches. We were sad that we missed an opportunity to share a few drinks with them. The welcome box with really good local wine is a lovely touch. The daily bread was wonderful, it tasted gorgeous and meant there was no need to worry about breakfast :).
We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone who wishes to experience a more rural visit to Tenerife.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- At 500 meters above sea level, in an agricultural area, with spectacular views, and surrounded by the typical vineyards of the area (Icoden Daute designation of origin), we find the Finca Las Breveritas. The illuminated garden areas, the solarium terrace attached to the heated pool (except in the summer) and surrounding by native plants, subtropical and fruit trees, make this an ideal environment for leisure and relaxation. From the view terrace, where we installed a telescope, our customers can enjoy one of the best views of Mount Teide and the ocean. Casa ... more less
