We spent a night here on our way to Champagne and had a fantastic experience.

The Chateau has been carefully restored and has thoughtful design elements throughout. Set in a peaceful and tranquil environment, it is the perfect place to relax.

We arrived in the afternoon and were served so cordially by Jerome, a credit to the hotel. He set us up with a lovely bottle of rosé champagne and a delightful cheese selection even though the kitchen was closed.

Our dinner in the hotel restaurant was wonderful and again the service was brilliant.. despite there being two large corporate groups staying at the same time.

Really this is a 4 star hotel with 5 star service.

My only negative would be the continental breakfast, which is served buffet style and I was put off by ham and cheese left out with several flies around them so I felt I could not eat it.

Aside from that minor issue, I cannot recommend this hotel enough and will definitely return because the service is amazing fo4 the price you pay.

Every time we visit Barive it seems to get better. Dinner was a pleasure with lots of choice, the Crepes Suzette are not to be missed. Breakfast has improved and the grounds were just beginning to show their spring time blooms. Well worth a visit

Absolutely perfect door to door, excellent welcome, dinner service and goodbye beautiful spacious room very clean, unfortunately we only stayed one night as we were traveling back home to Nice, we should have put two nights to one side to make the most of this delightful hotel.

We have stayed at this hotel twice before. It is situated deep in the countryside near Laon and has been extensively and caringly restored to produce an interesting and quite quirky environment.
This is an expensive hotel - 423€ for two, dinner, b/b.
Our bedroom was light and airy with a well appointed bathroom. However, there was no hot water (latterly discovered) to the wash basins. Turning on the bath hot water, produced lukewarm water to the basins but this did not sustain
If you need wifi, do not stay at this hotel as it is virtually non existent. For the first four hours after arrival, I tried to access using two passwords but to no avail. The receptionist could not solve and the manager, who was aware of my difficulty, seemed disinterested.
The dinner was good and not far short of Michelin *, but at a price of approaching 200€, so it should be. However, even in a hotel of this standard, French discourtesy still lingered. When arriving for dinner, instead of the maitre d' welcoming us with a smile, his first question was "have you reserved a table". How about "good evening sir/madam, welcome; could I just quickly check your reservation name".
Breakfast was a modest affair but fairly priced - rather spoilt by a grumpy waiter who could hardly bear to speak.
We checked out at 8.30am and I asked to speak to the manager, but he had not arrived, indeed the receptionist stated that she did not know when he would arrive - amazing.
I requested that he rang me in the morning to discuss the hotel's shortcomings. Her body language indicated that this was unlikely - she proved to be correct as I am still waiting after two days.
It is well known across the world that the French don't "do service". They seem to believe that they are doing the client a favour by offering hotels/restaurants.
I suggest the owners write into the manager's job description
"Provide such a great experience in every aspect that the guest cannot wait to return".

We have been here often and never disappointed. Perfect on-point reception with elegant and attentive service throughout. There are numerous menus to suit every budget and taste. The atrium dining room is very chic as is the clientele. We chose a 5 course Easter Monday lunch menu (47 Euros) that was perfection - absolutely top notch inventive food and just the right portion sizes. A huge comprehensive wine list (or more accurately wine book) with wines at every price point. The country setting is peaceful and beautifull, and the extensive grounds invite leisurely walks to aid digestion, as well as a small 'digestif' to top it off. Make sure to book restaurant reservations in advance to avoid disappointment. PERFECT!!
