“A great stopover”
Reviewed 2 July 2012

We were expecting an old fashioned pile in the country but La Grange is a very smart conversion of an old farmhouse(greatly extended) in the heart of the dull village of Conde Northen. It is only five minutes from the autoroute and made a geat stopover on our journey from Lake Como to the Channel tunnel.Standard Rooms are fine-modern,well equipped, spotless and well maintained. The restaurant is very good although a bit expensive.Food is excellent and as the weather was fine on our visit we had the bonus of eating out in the charming courtyard.Service is provided by enthusiastic locals but is a little amateurish for the prices charged but I am being a bit picky.
Overall a very pleasant place to stay in somewhat dull surroundings.

We stopped here for just one night en route from Paris back to Germany and we were delighted with every aspect of this fine little rural hotel. Although we did not eat here (there was a wedding and the restaurant was packed) we loved the comfort of our room, the grounds, the DVD player and selection of DVDs at reception for free, the fast internet, the complimentary computer in the lobby also super fast, and the breakfast was worth every Euro of the 13 they charged. Very nice experience and we will be back. The staff speaks flawless English.

Room Tip: A standard double is roomy and very comfortable and about all two people need. The pool area is gorg...

The room is quite roomy and clean and the place is quiet (we've stayed there on a Monday).
The staff try their best but they seem to be too busy and doing more than one job at a time. Everytime I called the reception or went there, there was nobody, and even at our arrival, we had to wait around 10 minutes before someone made an appearance to say that she was busy at the restaurant which is next door.
The WIFI is quite good, but make sure you ask for as many passcodes as the number of PCs/Tablets/phones you want to connect to the internet as a code will work on a single machine (nobody told me about that, so I had to go to the reception at 23h00 and wait without any means to call the receptionist until she appeared and issued a new code for my tablet.
Another thing nobody informed us about was that the door to the hotel is locked by night and they should give you the digital code, but they didn't with us, so when we came back to the hotel in the evening, the door was locked and of course nobody at the reception to open for us, so we had to go through the restaurant next door.
Now, when you get the entrance code, it will be better if you are two to open the door, because it takes less than one second for the door to get locked again after you pressed the last digit of the code, and the handle of the door is not close by so you can open it in time.
In the morning, the breakfast was OK, but nobody was there to clean the tables and fill up the baskets and bottles.
The place needs more customer-oriented approach to make it attractive in my view.

Satyed for 1 night on a driving holiday to break up journey to Germany. It was a Sunday night and it appeared that we may have been the only guests staying. Conde Northern is a very small village and appears to have no retaurants (certainly not on a Sunday), but the hotel made us very welcome with a special Sunday menu which was excellent. The staff were welcoming and the rooms were of a very high standard. Would cetrainly stay again

Stayed here for 2 nights as a stopover on our return from Italy. To be honest it is difficult to find fault with the place when you can get a smart comfortable spacious accommodation for less than 100euros. There is a very good restaurant which was very busy but come on, relax have another Pastis, we're on holiday!

The staff were excellent throughout our stay and to cap it all we had some super room-service and a top quality breakfast.

Just go, we are very fussy!!

Stayed at this hotel as a half way overnight stop to Switzerland. Hotel set in a quaint countryside setting which was a welcome sight after hours of monotonous motorway.
Our rooms were extremely well decorated, good size and large bathrooms. We ate in the hotel restaurant and the meal was excellent and here comes the but.......my family were all ready for a good nights sleep to prepare for the next leg of our journey, no such luck!!
The hotel is a mecca for local weddings and the music started up around ten and finished around four thirty in the morning!!! My husband complained bitterly at check-out only to be told we had the last two rooms, what has that got to do with it?
So word of warning, do not stay at this hotel on a Saturday night!

On our way down through France we had stopped in Metz which was super but quite hard to navigate so on our return trip we stayed at La Grange de Conde to avoid the traffic and hassle of Metz. For this purpose it worked extremely well. Conde Northen is a very ordinary place but the hotel is quite lovely.

Everything is super clean and immaculate. We took a Junior suite which had a bedroom on a mezzanine and was truly delightful with beautiful quality furniture, lovely comfortable bed and chairs - just totally French.

The hotel is renowned for its restaurant so we were looking forward to dinner. While the meal was very nice it wasn't legendary - we were expecting something truly special and were (very slightly) disappointed. My partner tried the roast suckling pig which was the house specialty and thought it was quite ordinary (no crackling !!!). My starter of a garden salad was just crudites with three rather unpleasant dressings which was ludicrously expensive but the sole was delicious.

The staff were charming and very helpful in all areas. The breakfast was OK but at 12 euros a head very overpriced for some quite nice bread and thermos flask coffee.

  • Liked — Forgot to mention the lovely pool area ...... very attractive
  • Disliked — Gentleman behind front desk smoked a cigar which rendered the lounge uninhabitable for us !
