“Excellent stay”
Reviewed 3 August 2014

A lovely place and the welcome is friendly, especially the restaurant manager. The food was amazing and would recommend this hotel without hesitation. The only reason we have given it four stars is that the standard rooms, whilst clean and more than ok, are fine but not exceptional. Will return again soon. Many Thanks Simon & Michelle Johnson

The UK based Bean Car Club have been making annual pilgrimage's to France for nearly 20 years but this was our first trip to Le Nord de France. We came principally to pay homage to those lost in two devastating world wars and the Chateau Tilques was very placed to allow us to do just that. The accommodation was very comfortable and perfect for the 32 people in our party. The service we received was outstanding and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast and dinners were all delicious. Being a party of a large size meant that we had to choose just one menu which was a bit of a down side but they were flexible with people with food allergies and the food was delicious. We had 4 nights here and everyone enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere of the indoor swimming pool, the outdoor terraces and roomy bar area for after dinner drinks and coffee. It is in a lovely area close to St Omer and many interesting places. Ypres and Passchendaele were also not too far away. I can thoroughly recommend anyone wanting to organise a car rally in northern France choosing this hotel

Room Tip: The modern rooms close to the swimming pool had balconies and overlooked the lake and were very nice...

We were offered a discounted room at this hotel by My Ferry and on first approach down the long drive to the chateau it looks stunning. However, that image is shattered as you step over the threshold. The management seem rather couldn't care less and couldn't remember that we had sent them an e-mail with a request for a bath. The so-called "Charme" room was pokey so I requested another room and we were given Room 6 which normally is priced at 230 euros. This was larger with a bath but the bathroom was small as the chateau has been cut about to make more rooms. The French fabric wall panels were lovely. The maintenance needs looking at, spider in the bath and cracked windowsill but to be expected in an old pile of this nature. The bed was large and comfortable but the pillows were stained - unforgiveable. Attention to detail is sadly lacking here and it could be a real money-spinner if they paid attention. When private residences are taken over by chains (Najeti in this case) they often suffer. We made our way to the terrace and received no service after a long wait - unthinkable in a hotel of this class so we searched for a waiter and eventually received our drinks. We skipped dinner as had arrived late. Breakfast was superb with bacon and scrambled eggs which is normally unheard of in France, so long may it continue. The staff at the restaurant were very good and helpful and there was an excellent choice.

In the grounds there was a large lifesize chess set where we had a fun game. There was a noisy party in the grounds in the evening, all on their mobiles which detracted from the lovely setting.

My wife had an accident and tripped on a very uneven and unmaintained piece of ground on the way to the car park but Reception came to her aid with bandages and medication and medical assistance was sought. Thank you for that, it was a nasty graze on the knee.

We received a discount coupon for 49 euros for our next stay at this chain, but were fairly unimpressed and they need to up their game if they are to improve their falling occupancy rate. However, they have good marketing ability and are trying hard to attract more customers. St. Omer is a lovely town and we visit often so it's not far away.

This is a beautiful hotel set in magnificent grounds.
The Charm Room was comfortable with a huge bed but towels were not tidied or water replenished on our second day.
The charming gentleman is reception was most helpful in giving us advice on a safe cycle route to take into St Omer and a map of St Omer.
Breakfast was good with plenty of choices but the meal on the set menu was mediocre. The service was slow but pretentious.

This is my favourite Chateau near the Euro tunnel. We were given the same room as last year in the Annex ,large bright room, very quiet ,modern bathroom, separate toilet, big King size bed and a small balcony with chairs. Dinner and breakfast served in lovely old Barn between the main house and the Annex .

We have stayed here before but the hotel has recently changed ownership and for us it just lacked a bit of its previous appeal.

The thing that impressed us last time was the food and this was one of the reasons we decided not to drive straight to Calais and to book a night here but after a week of travelling France this was our least inspiring meal. Whether that was because we decided to go for a room and meal deal and not a la carte I don't know, but the meal was disappointing and we paid about the same as we had been paying all week for a room and a la carte so maybe the standards had slipped in fact another guest also said they felt it had changed so maybe it was just not us.

Our room was also small with a small window so it was dark. It did have a very nice walk in shower though. The hotel also has a pool which was nice as we had it to ourselves.

So - nothing terrible but not as good or impressive as last time.

We enjoyed a wonderful night here on the last night of our French holiday. Really comfortable room in the Chateau, well appointed with super bathroom en-suite.

We had a garden view room, very peaceful, very special.

Dinner in the Restaurant was a delight. We ate from the 3 course menu, it was all just right; the wines on offer were all of a good quality and the waiter very knowledgeable and helpful.

We did not have time for the swimming pool but had a quick look around and found it to be very well serviced, clean and inviting.

We will stay again, next time for longer.

Room Tip: Would always choose a ,garden view' room inside the Chateau.
