This is a little gem - don't tell anyone!

I'm going back very very soon. You just would not believe it exists- down a country road at the back of a village . When you arrive you can't fail to be romanticised by the pretty front on the hotel and the location .

A great hotel for country walks , swimming ( good pool ) and quiet drinks on the terrace .

Stay up late at night to watch the bunnies running across the lawn !

Really cute get away place - you wouldn't believe just 30 mins from Calais !

Rooms are typically French- we stated in the cheapest room - absolute bargain .

We have stayed at this hotel many times over the years and have always enjoyed the welcome, the ambience, reasonable rooms and excellent food. This time, we were driving back from Italy and decided at the last minute we would see if we could break our journey so rang through for a last minute cheap rate. Although the hotel was virtually empty, we got no discount, but were given the cheapest room in the Chateau, which was very small with only one head height window with zero view.

The bathroom looked like it had recently been refurbished. But strange, the shower cubicle had no door (by design) so water poured out onto the bathroom floor turning it into an ice rink and soaking the loo paper, as there was no loo paper holder.

Dinner in the restaurant was OK, but not up to usual standards, and the waitresses, whilst attentive, very inexperienced.

We both slept very badly in part because there was a lot of noise throughout the night with staff talking in the area under our window (which we like to keep open) either as they finsidhed for the day or started early the next.

We probably will return, but will hope not to have a similar experience.

Beautiful chateau about 20 minutes from the Channel Tunnel so great location to stop on the way back to the UK from France. Lovely pool. Stunning grounds and the family rooms are excellent with a generous size room downstairs and two single beds in a loft / mezzanine level. Will def be back.

Old fashioned, very pretty hotel with beautiful grounds with path down to the water. Staff very professional and spoke very good English (we did try to speak French too, and they were very patient!) Lovely young waiter in the restaurant, very knowledgable about the menu and the "fromages"! Childrens 16Euro menu avail from the adult one. Good food, fantastic desserts (wonderful cheesecake!), bit expensive but you are in a nice hotel so what do you expect?
Breakfast a bit of a let down, expected more for 16Euros. Nice, but not amazing.
You can hire bikes and there is a tennis court and a pleasant glass covered swimming pool.
The mezzanine family rooms are very clean and perfect for a family. Great little terrace to sit out on, overlooking the immaculately kept grounds.
Altogether a beautiful hotel, friendly, smiley staff (especially in the restaurant.)
Location: it is quiet and a bit out of the way. If you wanted dinner other than the hotel restaurant you would have to drive to Saint Omer (which by the way is half closed in August)
There were young (French and Dutch) families and older English guests staying when we were there. So a lovely mix (not just a place for English tourists!)
It could have been quite "stuffy" but along with the young staff and the willingness to accommodate children (particularly in the restaurant) it manages to be relaxing and classy without being pompous. I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Mezannine rooms for a family of 4 are perfect.

Having stayed at the Chateau many times before we decided to treat our grandchildren. They had their own rooms which were very nice, clean and comfortable. Our room was very cramped dull and the bathroom well that was so small I was surprised that they had such a room in this lovely Chateau. We have always had such nice rooms whenever we have stayed before it made this trip very disappointing all round. The one consolation was that waiter in the lounge was excellent, always polite, attentive and very helpful. We will of course go back in the future but will certainly make sure we do not get such an awful room.

Room Tip: Check the room for size and comfort.

After many enjoyable stays at Chateau Tilques, this one was not up the usual standards. The service and evening meal on the first evening (Monday) was well below standard (it turned out that the chef was off for the day). It also seemed to suffer from not having anyone in the dining room who was in a supervisory role. The meal on the second evening was much better although service was still below par. The restaurant here is the main reason we stop here, it will be sad if it is in decline.

Our Charme room, whilst being quite small, had a very small bathroom (approx. 7'x4'), with insufficient space.

On the positive side, it is a lovely location and the barman was a terrific plus for the hotel.

Really lovely hotel in all respects. Lovely room, facilities and food. Excellent staff.
Not cheap but well worth it. If we are very in the area again, we won't hesitate to stay.
Didn't want to leave but travel plans beckoned.

Room Tip: Stayed in the pavilion. Very nice room with plenty of space overlooking the garden.
