“Magnificent view-Overestimated service”
Reviewed 28 June 2014

Delphini Tavern has got an excellent spot in Plaka village just opposite the beautiful and mysterious island of Spinaloga. Also its renovation in furniture and colours reminded me of Cycladic scenery. But the food was nothing great but fresh, the portions were rather small and the prices too high for a big company.Imagine that a chicken souvlaki costs 11 euro and a squid 7,70 without any potatoes. The lettuce salad is a good choice however, if you want to take something with a greek taste!I am not sure I would go there again, but it was such a great day and the view of Spinaloga and the sea around was tempting.

“Incredible hospitality, food and views!”
Reviewed 4 June 2014

I've traveled to Crete almost every year for our 33 years of marriage, and find that the TripAdvisor reviews (even for top restaurants with lots of reviews) miss the most important distinguishing feature of the various restaurant choices here. You can't go wrong with any restaurant in Crete: order Greek food and you will never be disappointed. So why is Dephini special? You should stop here for FANTASTIC views, incredible HOSPITALITY, and GREAT food. We had a wonderful time at dinner with our adult children, and especially enjoyed talking to our server, Manolis. We learned that the olive oil served in the restaurant is from the family's own olive grove, the vegetables are all sourced locally (great cucumbers with lots of flavor - for Americans, that is truly a mark of a restaurant that cares about what it serves!), and the feta cheese is out of this world, also from local sources and better than any we've had on this trip, including the fabled Dodoni feta. The lavraki (a white fish) was delicious, grilled and simple and as good as any we've had at the top restaurants in New York City. The fried calamari melted in your mouth, and the tzatziki was memorable and delicious. So, run, don't walk, to this charming restaurant with a balcony hanging over a cliff high above the gulf of Mirabello. The bill will be totally reasonable, and Manolis at Delphini can book boat tours (private cruises, fishing trips, and trips to Spinalonga) as well, at prices well below those charged at the major resorts in Elounda. So go to Delphini! It is a real find.

“Disappointed”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

Delfini looked a lovely restaurant in the evening sunshine yet we should have been cautious when there wasn't a menu on show at the front, as with the other restaurants in Plaka.

The service was friendly but the food was the worst food we ate in Crete. As a vegetarian, they provided me with a mixed mezze plate - most of it was fried and tasteless. So disappointed. We are also not convinced that the crayfish my partner ordered was from the tank, rather than one from the kitchen.

A number of other tavernas to try instead ...

“Great Fish Experience”
Reviewed 18 May 2014

We wanted to have fish and stopped at this taverna. The location is amazing just and romantic.
We ordered the set fish menu, where you have the choice of two different fishes with side orders and pay EUR15 each.

The fish was grilled perfectly and tasty. The side dishes were french fries, cucumbers and tomatoes. It was OK but not very special. The fish was the highlight.

Service was a bit slow, even there were only a few other guests there. I guess in high season the waiting time could be quite long.

“SUPERB IN EVERY WAY”
Reviewed 7 November 2013

Great food cooked and served by local family. I enjoyed literally hours over lunch here in April and then again in July. April was quiet and relaxed and we enjoyed superb service. Went back with friends in July and again, relaxed meal with attentive servers. The food is authentic and lots of extras are brought to the table for you to try - at no added cost. The wine flows freely . Fish is fresh and reasonably priced. The view is superb and nothing is too much trouble. In fact, one of the guys there even took my husband and daughter on a short boat trip over to Spinalonga just for the fun of it and lent us a pack of cards so we could linger over lunch. I cant fault the food, the cost, the family, the location or in fact anything. We stay in Aghios Nikolaos but think its well worth the short trip to Plaka.
Great designer clothing shop over the road from the taverna run by really nice lady.
