“Ideal!”
Reviewed 13 December 2013 via mobile

This was a marvellous base for visiting both Semur itself and many parts of Burgundy. The off-street parking was particularly welcome as I was driving a full car northwards; and the parking was secured at night. Access to the courtyard in a Stilo Estate was easy: any criticism about access being narrow is just unfair. The staff were friendly; the room was clean and comfortable; and it didn't cost much at all! I would definitely return!

Just steps away from the ancient town centre this hotel is somewhat tired and shabby - the very chilly grey rainy weather didn't help - the rooms were not heated despite the weather having been like this for several days.
More positively, my room was clean and the bed comfortable, no frills at all. The breakfast very much portion controlled but acceptable I suppose. There is secure parking.

An older style hotel a few steps away from central Semur, with a walled courtyards where one can park a car. Careful though, with tight turn we were glad we parked in parking lot 30 yards below. No elevators but a stairway up to "deuxieme etage"--third floor-- nice pictures on wall of stairwell, bedroom on top with large exposed beams but plenty of height. Comfortable king sized bed, WC, bathroom with bidet, shower. All worked well, slept very well. TV there, we weren't interested in it.
Nice breakfast in enclosed terrace, juice, coffee, croissants, yogurt. Older French speaking couples at breakfast.
All in all, met our needs very well, nothing fancy, well done "comme il faut".

Room Tip: Enjoyed light into top floor windows, rooftop view

Well-located with convenient parking, but the hotel is shabby and worn, with a bad odor throughout. We were unable to find good restaurants, and the town was not very interesting. It's a convenient stop on the way from Burgundy to Paris. The hotel is probably OK for the cheap price, but don't expect anything charming or quant.

We stayed here after reading about it in a Rick Steves guidebook. The room was dark, dated, and quite tired. A bit on the small side, but this is not unexpected in Europe. Unfortunately, we were placed directly next to the stairwell, which was terribly noisy. We asked to move rooms, but they told us it was not possible. We found a flea in our room (and saw other guests with dogs). Very bare bones for a hotel -- no tissues, drinking glasses, or anything. The overpriced breakfast was EUR 9 -- glad we only did it one day, as it was bad coffee, canned fruit, and cheap yogurt. On the positive side, the hotel had parking, the bed was comfortable, free wi-fi, and you can easily walk into town from the property. Would opt for a B & B next time.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the stairs, if possible. I had already asked for a quiet room when I booke...

We stayed at HOTEL DES CYMAISES for 3 nights in early September. We enjoyed our stay and will not hesitate to stay here again – beautiful and convenient location, peaceful, free parking, great breakfast – a solid value for 68 Euros per couple.
Location: In the heart of an amazingly beautiful medieval walled town.
Parking: A very convenient free parking in the courtyard of the hotel.
Rooms: We occupied 2 double rooms (2 couples) facing hotel's courtyard. One room was just above the reception area, well appointed with antique furniture, good bed and shower, the second room was in the opposite part of the building. The corridor and the room itself had an “old room” smell which was easily remedied by opening windows and getting in fresh air. The second room was large with good bed and a shower. Rooms were very quiet.
Breakfast: for 8.50 Euros it was a solid deal for a continental breakfast, it’ served in a solarium overlooking the courtyard.
Grounds: Hotel has a pleasant little garden with outdoor furniture for a picnic or just a glass of wine after a long day exploring Burgundy.
Hosts: Staff was very helpful and efficient

Semur-en-Auxois is a charming village in a lovely region. We had a perfectly nice room up the stairs. This is not a luxury hotel, it is fairly basic, but clean, comfortable, and furnished with antiques. The price was fair, and it's very well located, if a bit hard to find in the car. The entrance is on a narrow street with a dead-end sign in the small public lot below, so you may think you should not drive up there. We parked and walked up, to find that we could drive our car into the spacious property inside the gate. It was so nice not to worry about where to put the car! The owners were helpful in finding good places to eat in town. It's a wonderful, interesting town, well worth the visit. We really liked this place!
