We have just spent the first two weeks of January in Casa Carolina. A lovely villa in a picturesque location in the mountains 3 kilometres outside the small town of Competa.
Although it was January the days were pleasantly comfortable to warm and twice we were able to sit out in shorts during the afternoon. Nights were cold but the wood burning stove warmed the villa through and it was very cosy. We found the place well equipped, the TV good and the internet better than we have at home in the English countryside. Once you get used to the road to the villa it is fine to get to and from. The location is very peaceful and quiet so relaxation is the word.
Competa is 3 kilometres away and full of shops and restaurants. The local Spanish people are very friendly and helpful. We found a taxi company ( taxi No 4) that knows where the villa is and thus were able to use it to go out for an evening meal with wine on two occasions.
This is our 3rd visit to Spain in the winter and by far our best experience. It is highly probable that if we visit Spain next winter we would return to Casa Carolina as it ticked all the boxes for us.
