“Great place for a boat and ocean lover!”
Reviewed 7 August 2013

We've been a part of the regulars at Treasure Cay Hotel and Marina for several years now and we continue coming back and back for several reasons. For a long stay, they have everything you need without the "big city" we are trying to get away from. The beaches are gorgeous, the hotel suites with full kitchens make grabbing a bit quick on your own schedule. A grocery store on the property makes this good. The marina is an excellent hurricane hole and the marina staff is extremely helpful and vigilant. They are great about walking the docks and double checking electric plugs, boat conditions, etc. Makes it a great place to long-term store the boat. And under the new manager, the happenings are constant - there is something going on for every age group all the time now - particularly around holidays! Getting there by air a piece of cake out of Ft. Lauderdale as well. Great spot in the Bahamas.

Room Tip: Check out the website for the options. Rooms facing the marina are great if you have a boat and nee...

I waited just over a year to post this review. The reasons I waited so long was to give myself time for reflection and to give Stephen, the manager of Treasure Cay Beach, Marina & Golf Resort time to follow through on promises he personally made me. It appears that he has and continues making improvements to the resort.

We stayed for two weeks at this location and were very displeased with our room. The telephone never worked, ethernet never worked, the shower leaked constantly, the kitchen sink faucet was a total wreck, the burners on the stove would not sit level, there was a dangerous tear in the carpet halfway down the stairs, the refrigerator was filthy and was missing shelving, and the bathroom was extremely dirty.

We certainly let management know of these problems-very early on-but nothing was done to alleviate the problems with the exception that they have brought a sink strainer, which was originally missing. A maintenance man DID come by to look at a sliding screen door that went to the patio since a large corner of it was torn and there was a gap between the door and the room that was big enough to put a broom handle through. I have plenty of photographs to verify this information but there is no point in me posting them since, based on current reviews, most of these problems are being attended to.

I will say this... you get there and you are having a problem with your room, immediately demand to be moved to a new room and inspect that room before accepting it. Based on my observations, your time at the resort will be over before repairs can be made. Of course, you must realize you are on an island and everything takes time-a LOT of time - on an island.

Moving on to better things. The entire staff at the resort was exemplary and extremely friendly even though the cleaning staff needs to be retrained. Our bathroom was never properly cleaned (the mold we found remained the entire time) and the carpet was never properly vacuumed. I always place a few crumbs near a table. This lets me know how well the cleaning staff is doing. With the exception of a statuesque, tall woman, who was apparently in charge of housekeeping, and who had a propensity to carry an umbrella, all the staff were extremely friendly and great fun to interact with. I was most impressed with Stephen, the manager! He seemed to be everywhere and he appeared to truly care about his customers, even though I believe he was somewhat limited by corporate headquarters and distance from the mainland.

So what is great about this place? Location, location, location! You are just a 10 min. walk from one of the most beautiful beaches in the world (or you can rent a golf cart by the week-my recommendation). The Marina, itself, is beautiful to look at. The food served at the resort is pretty good and pizzas on pizza night are fantastic. Warning: prices ARE fairly high but considering where you are makes them worth it.

Recommendations: RENT A CAR, even though it is extremely expensive to rent one on Abaco. There is next to nothing to do at and near this resort and very little is within walking distance. We did NOT rent a car but we did rent a golf cart for both weeks we were there and some of the best times we had were just exploring around the area. Do go out the main road toward the highway (even though the rules explicitly tell you not to). There is a wonderful restaurant, a fantastic bakery which will serve you just about anything you ask for if you give them a one-day notice (we had lobster for $10), a carryout liquor store, and a local making the best conch salad I have ever tasted!

One final thing... you CAN rent a boat while here. I strongly urge you to do so because boating in and around the many islands is the most efficient way to get around and the ocean is extremely calm here because it is well protected by the islands.

Would we go back? ABSOLUTELY! We would just make sure that the room was up to our expectations before accepting it and we would rent a boat. Oh yes, I almost forgot... be sure to look up a gentleman named Lincoln Park and take his one day fishing trip. It was absolutely the highlight of this trip and one of the top five things we have ever done while on vacation.

Room Tip: Check out the room thoroughly before accepting it.

Only 5 mins walk from the Treasury Cay beach, one really can't complain about the location. The view from the rooms overlooking the marina is amazing. We were 5 of us and hence had taken a 2 bedroom suite. These come with a fully-equipped kitchen and hence we did most of our cooking indoors. That was a big plus since we had to have vegetarian meals most of the time.

But the view and kitchen facilities are really add-ons. We were really disappointed with the state of the facilities and the maintenance in general. Kept having issues with the air-conditioning, or flushing or the cable. While the staff was very helpful especially the front office, but I guess the up-keep and maintenance is really beyond them and is a management issue. The only solution seemed to be to shift us from Room A to B and after a point, we just got tired and lived with the sub-optimal cooling.

The room rates aren't high, but unless one is taking the marina facing room and gets lucky enough that all appliances are working, wouldn't really recommend.

My first visit to Abaco was everything I dreamed it would be and more... it had great beaches that has soft sand that sinks between your toes which is unlike any other beach I have been to in the Bahamas , and the aqua blue water of the ocean is the best in the entire world . you can literally see 30 ft down and see everything on the bottom like it is glass. I snorkeled right in front of cocoa beach bar and saw a huge sea turtle which made my entire trip worth every penny, I snorkeled the same spot the next day and he was still there!! if I could recommend anybody to do anything it would be conch diving which is so much fun , take advantage of all the water sports, sailing paddle boards scuba diving etc.. and also check out nippers cay , you cant go wrong with all those things. The staff was very friendly and quick to take my drink and food orders :) make sure you check Charmaine,Dwayne, Paula, and Judy they were the best servers I have ever had! The General Manager was also very nice, he told me exactly what to do in order to enjoy everything with the little time that I had, including spear fishing conch diving island hopping and much more..

Room Tip: stay in one of the villas they are beautiful

The Treasure Cay Resort was everything I anticipated and more. Nestled on the beautiful island of Abaco it was just the right place for a relaxing retreat. Hats off to Avis -Guest Manager and the wonderful resort staff. Meals were delicious, rooms clean and comfortable. I would definitely recommend resort to others.

Our first visit to Abaco island in the Bahamas was a joy. If you are looking for a "remote" spot to relax and enjoy 3 miles of a white sand beach, this is the place to visit. The stay at Treasure Cay was very nice and the accommodations were extremely comfortable. We had a one bedroom suite that covered two floors, full kitchen, one and a half baths with a balcony overlooking the marina that was clean and roomy. The resort is close to a small plaza that had a grocery store, convenient store, liquor store and golf cart rentals (that is the mode of transportation in the area). We enjoyed a very short walk to the white sand beach. The ocean was turquoise and the water very calm - the Coco Beach bar is right on the beach and I enjoyed Mango daiquiries every day! All guests of the resort could use the beach chairs and hutches with water sports available. The resort staff were extremely helpful as we had to ask for a table for the balcony, an iron board and a light repaired in the fridge. A bar at the marina seemed to be limited in entertainment - that could be due to the time of year - and the Spinnacker restaurant, considered a little more "upscale" with dinners around $20 - 30.00, was convenient with delicious island food on the menu. We would visit the resort again but would fly into the Treasure Cay airport as opposed to Marsh Harbor airport, which is 40 miles away from the resort and the transportation via taxi cost $85. All other costs were pretty comparable to prices in the states. We traveled in mid-July and had rain almost every day; the natives advised us to travel to their island in March, April and November for the best weather.

Room Tip: Be prepared to carry luggage steep stairs if staying in the one bedroom suite; coming from other isl...

It is an excellent location with stunning views of marina. The view is so mesmerizing you can sit in the balcony for hours. It comes with full kitchen so you can easily rustle up a meal, so important for guys like us who prefer vegetarian food. There are restaurants around in the property but choice for vegetarians are limited.
The beach near by is very good, but that you will end up saying for almost all beached in Bahamas. Abaco island offers lot of day trips to near by cays which are worth exploring.

But one word of caution, there is not much of support staff to handle repairs, and may be it was almost end of the season but there are irritants in almost all rooms. The first night we stayed, the air-conditioner did not work, their solution shift to other room. having only about 30% occupancy kind of allows them to juggle around. Like every where in Bahamas, there would be no staff after 9 pm. But let me still maintain that i would give very good rating to the property.

We enjoyed thoroughly as our entire family was to gather. We came from India, daughter from Italy and joined my son and his wife who live in Nassau.

Room Tip: Select the rooms facing Marina, they have excellent view. Before you accept the room check whether...
