“Fabulous service”
Reviewed 17 April 2014

Just had yet another great meal at our favourite haunt. Delicious new menu, with a huge choice. Overseen by a new member of the management team , Amy , who was most helpful ,attentive and professional, the service was faultless . Recommend a visit to try the delicious coronation chicken skewers for starters and a delicious home made Chilli as a main.

“Always nice food and friendly staff”
Reviewed 16 April 2014

I've been coming to the White Lion for about 15 years on and off and it was only when there last night I thought "Why have I never reviewed this place on TA"??!

I find on the whole that the food is always good pub grub, and the service is always friendly.

Last night I had the Wexford Steak which is an 8oz sirloin with mushrooms and a blue cheese and pepper sauce. It was cooked to perfection and the sauce was scrummy. I asked for extra veg instead of chips which they willingly provided. My Mum had the cheese curry - sounds weird but is soo nice! Heartattack on a plate!! - and my Gran had sirloin steak with pepper sauce. She also wanted a slight change - she wanted new potatoes instead of chips and again this wasn't a problem.

Service was a bit slow considering it didn't feel that busy in there, and then when we had finished I heard them tell one lady who had just arrived that it was now an hours wait for food. Don't know why when less than half of the tables were full.

Nice pub, in a great countryside location.

“Thoroughly Underwhelmed!”
Reviewed 13 April 2014

A neighbour had recommended this place, telling us how it had been refurbished and how good it was! When we arrived we noticed a packed car park and so were full of anticipation. It was clear that a great deal of money had been spent on the interior decoration/furnishings. However, the lighting was so low as to make the place feel decidedly gloomy. There were menu specials on a board plus a printed menu.

The service was good, but two out of the five meals were very disappointing. I had fish cakes, which would have been more aptly listed as potato cakes! In fairness the steak meal and the sausages were described as "quite tasty" but we all wanted a tasty meal!

Obviously this place is appealing to many people, but not to us.

“A very busy and popular Village Pub”
Reviewed 23 March 2014

The White Lion always seems packed and indeed was on my visit last week, which may have explained but not excused the very long wait to be served and the time between courses. There appeared to be very little supervision of the waiting staff who to my mind were inexperienced and badly trained, after our main course three of the six plates were cleared, which we had to ask a waiter to do and then came another 25 minutes before we had to ask again for the others to be taken and a dessert menu to be given. The food is quite good if somewhat traditional Pub grub, the beer is very good as is the atmosphere but it’s not cheap for some of the main dishes and in an area of great hostelries they must do something to improve the service.
