“perfect location for an intimate wedding overlooking the ocean”
Reviewed 9 March 2010

We visited The Sarann in early Feb for our wedding. We only had 4 other wedding guests, and so we were after a very small and intimate gathering overlooking the ocean.

We arrived the day before our wedding with not a lot of sleep, and so when we arrived we were a little dazed and confused. We did have some communication trouble, and I would perhaps recommend a translator.

Our suite was truly amazing, we had a luxury villa with private pool overlooking the ocean. When we arrived there were flowers everywhere and we felt very special.

The day of our wedding, the team burnt a play list of ours to CD and organised a manicurist - they took care of our last minute needs with no fuss.

The flower decorations were beautiful, classic and not over the top which was what we wanted. A big flower chandelier hung over our dining table which was gorgeous.

After we had signed our papers, we had a private meal which was truly amazing - although we didn't understand the menu properly so we completely underestimated how much food was to come! Each dish was amazingly presented and very good - but by the time the main courses arrived we were quite full.

After the meal, we were taken down to the beach and we lit fire lanterns that took off into the sky - which, coupled with the food, the flowers, the lighting and all the lovely staff, made it the most memorable experience of our life.

We stayed at the Sarann in January 2010. Situated on the rocky end of Chaweng Noi, this quiet resort consists of around 40 Japanese style villas and has a lovely infinity pool, a good restaurant (you've got to try their Tom Yum soup!) and a good spa. The rooms are very clean and spacious and the beds are made up with nice touches like white flowers scattered over the duvet. And speaking of beds… these ones were as comfy as you could wish for. Nice pillows too. Not much space for clothes, mind, since the cupboards are tiny, as are the drawers. We had an issue at first with the water temp but they fixed it in a flash so we were able to enjoy a good soak in the wet room-style bathroom. The air conditioning was also a little noisy at night but par for the course at most detached villas. The seafront pool villas are the best since they afford an amazing view of the sea. Better access to the beach would be advantageous though – when the tide's in you have to wade through shin-high water for a few wobbly steps. The beach, though, is fabulous. We had decent body-surfing waves and the temp was an ideal 80-ish. Not the tranquil calm waters of Phuket we expected and no snokelling spots nearby but still great. The beach is lovely and the beach vendors (Hi Charlie!!) are such a friendly bunch. Back to the Sarann, if there's any quibble it's that the resort is unfortunately placed in a position that doesn't get a great deal of sun. It's there in the morning but after 12pm it goes behind the buildings and you have to hunt for a sunspot. I hardly used our amazing-looking private infinity pool (a decent size) because the water never got enough sun to make it as warm as the main pool. But, hey, we had a fantastic stay there and we adore (and miss) Jamnau (?), who served us breakfast every morning. All the staff are truly amazing. Finally, top marks to their limo service. I recommend the three-hour tour of the northern end of Samui. The cars are modern and they even provide water and ice-cold towels. A brilliant service. A splendid boutique hotel.
