“Nice and quiet place in busy Samui”
Reviewed 1 February 2011

Me and my boyfriend started our two weeks trip in Thailand with 2 nights in this place. We really enjoyed the quiet location in, otherwise, very busy Chaweng, Samui. The resort is really nice, clean and cosy with large, impeccable bungalows. We stayed in a deluxe villa, which I can really recommend. The only downside I can think of is the beach. It´s not very nice just outside the hotel, but if you walk the beach about 150 meters to the left, there is a heavenly nice beach. The resort is close to the airport and to Chaweng. We didn´t try the restaurant at the hotel, but there are plenty of cheap and nice ones just up the main road.

We stayed here in December at the end of out Thailand Trip. We had been staying in guesthouses on the mainalnd before we got to Koh Samui so we were looking forward to a bit of luxury. Overall it was a good place to stay but I'm not sure if we would stay at Al's Laemson again. On the plus side it was very romantic!

Accomodation:
We stayed in a Sea View Deluxe but to be honest the seaview wasnt exactly unspoilt. If we went again we wouldnt bother paying the extra. Also, our bungerlow was by one of the main pathways that led down to the beach so it could be a little noisy in the morning. I remember being worken up a couple of times by the staff walking past our bungerlow talking loudly and driving their carts around. Our inside shower didnt have any hot water so we complained but nothing was done about it. The outside shower was lovely but the hot water seemed to have a mind of its own and didnt seem to stay hot for long. The room itself was large and the decor was very nice.

Also, the TV didnt work through-out the whole of our stay. You don't go to Koh Samui to sit in and watch TV but it was rainy season when we went and it would have been nice to have it. We did mention it to the reception but they told us the cable TV was down on the whole island. I'm not sure how true that was because everywhere else seemed to have it on! There wasnt any internet in the rooms either - even the most basic guesthouse that we stayed in previously had free Wi-Fi in the rooms so we felt a little let down about that and the internet computers that they had in the reception were very slow.

Location:
Lovely apart from the fact that their part of the beach wasnt pure white powder sand it was more stoney but it was still nice. Across the bay is a tiny island that we Kayaked too curtesy of the free Kayaking hire service that the hotel provided which was a major bonus for us. We had a lovely day just sitting on this deserted island just a 5 minute Kayak from the hotel which was perfect. We really did have our own island!

Facilities:
The pool was great. We went in rainy season so we never had to share the pool with anyone as it was so quite. It really was lovely. The resturant was brilliant and we had the best food of our whole trip there. The staff in the resturant were great too and very helpful!

Reception Staff:
Not so great unfortunatly. The first few days that we were there were very rainy and everyone seemed to be incredibly grumpy but towards the end of our stay they did perk up and seemed quite friendly. They werent very good when it came to booking trips through them either - just book them through one of the many tour guides in town if you go as they will probably be cheaper and much more knowledgeable!

Location:
Great if you want a quite time in Koh Samui. Its a 5 minute drive from the airport and a 10 minute walk onto the main strip of Chalong Beach. We found a cut through to the beach through one of the hotels by Al's Laemson which made it really easy. Dont take the long route up the main road as it will take you ages!

We stayed here the second part of our trip in Koh Samui - after the full moon party and after staying at Chaweng Garden Beach Resort, we wished that we had not paid up front :(

The rooms were beautiful and if you want to be truly away from the shopping, bars and lovely beaches - then this resort is ideal for you. Its modern and you have your own mini villa on stilts but we came for the beach and the vibe - and were disappointed with both.

Seriously, the food & beverage staff are impossible! They do not speak English and if they do - They pretend to not hear / understand you. The breakfast got extreemly menotonous - especially when trying to explain "no ham" in your omlet, that the guy makes IN FRONT of you!

The beach is seriously a disappointment - despite the amaising views and beautiful swimming pool, If you are flying half way around the world - course, shell beaches are not my seen. The sea is great though. You are also really far out and an average taxi is 300B per trip - 10 mins down to Chaweng's main beach and bar area.

Cheers

We stayed here for Christmas for 7 nights. On arrival we weren't too sure were we were ended up, we were going down a darkish road and were a little concerned, then noticed a few other hotels and then there we were.

On arrival, they had all our details and were driven in a golf buggy to our bungalow. The resort has a brand new feel and everything was in excellent condition. Our room was very nice and probably better than I expected. I really liked the shower which was under cover, but outside which was fun. (There is also a bath tub with shower inside if you prefer). The room was very modern, clean and very new looking. Had TV, mini bar, air con, hair dryer, dressing gowns and an in room safe. It was very easy to sleep at night as it was nice and quiet. Our bungalow was very close to the pool.

Breakfast was good. A good choice of fruits, yoghurt, cereal, bread and pastries, cooked items such as bacon (which is some of the best bacon I've ever had), sausages, eggs how you like them and so forth. Plenty of choice.

The pool area was nice with a stools in the water at the bar. My only criticism of the pool area is that there aren't enough sun loungers, there are only 11. Although when we were there we never had a problem because it was very quiet. There are plenty more on the beach.

The beach out the front was a disappointment. The area where the sun loungers are is ok and there are plenty of them available all day. But during our visit over Christmas each day there was quite a lot of rubbish being swept onto the beach from the sea. After a couple of days the hotel did start cleaning it up, but it seemed to appear each day. Not sure what causes this, people dumping rubbish or the recent floods which could have swept a lot of stuff into the sea. However, the hotel were cleaning it, I just hope they continue to do this as it would be a real shame for a nice hotel.

We also borrowed the kayak's from the hotel which are free for guests and kayaked over to Koh Mutlang, you can see if from the beach and takes about 10 mins. The beach there is sadly also in need of a bit of TLC and cleaning. But a bit of fun none the less.

You can walk to the main Chaweng beach (which is better than the hotel beach) in about 5 mins from the hotel main entrance and you can cut through the Chaba Cabana. The walk along the beach is nicer than the road. It takes about 10-15 mins to walk into the centre of Chaweng and the Songthaew (pick up truck style taxi's) is about 100 baht (£2) each way for two people.

We had lunch a couple of times at the pool bar, the drinks and food are reasonably priced too and the food was good as well. Service is fine, although they seemed to be training a new person who could barely speak English, which isn't a problem yet all their menus are in English only, perhaps they should have it in Thai too. Anyway we managed to communicate in the end.

I liked this hotel and the main let down is the beach. I really hope that this was a one off and the hotel maintain the beach otherwise it would be such a shame. Never the less, a good hotel and I would consider staying again if in Samui.

The hotel was really nice. The roons were really clean. Breakfast could be improved and staff at the restaurant should know better english. Other than these two points no complaints at all. Location was a handy 2 mins bike ride to the middle of the hustle and bustle of chaweng beach.

We first booked another hotel in Chaweng for our Honeymoon, upon arriving to that hotel we discovered that everything it had said ont he internet was a lie, there was no sea side bungalows etc, only drab little rooms!

My husband then spent the next hour trying to find a nicer hotel for us to start our Samui Honeymoon in, finally he found one, Al's Laemson Resort, what a difference from the other place, the stafff were so friendly, helpful and honest. After checking into our amazing mini house of a room we went out for an explore, we came back and there werre flowers int he room a fruit basket and drinks waiting for us, WOW. All in all Al's is one of the best hotels we have stayed at.

We forgot to lock away our passports etc, a few times and we never had an issue with the staff and them sealing, this was one place where you can feel save leaving your belongings out in the room.

On one of our last nights my Husband wanted to do something special for me, so he had organised with the hotel to set up a romantic dinner for two on the beach, with flowers and all the works, they were amazing!

i am now planning our next holiday to SEA and we will be staying at Al's again.
its only a short walk to the hub of Chaweng, lots of shops etc close by.
