We stayed for 8 nights at Verticolor. Greeted by a very sour face individual who never smiled for the whole stay (female & pregant), she doesn't do the hotel much justice at all for customer care. The other staff who worked on the front desk were the opposite.
I booked a double room and paid extra for the larger one. I was advised that we were booked into a twin room!!! WHY???????? This was changed but we had to wait 2 hours before we could check in.
Room was spacious, the only faults we could find was the AC was very noisy, flies in the room all the time so we got bit even with a plug in (don't know where they were coming in from). There were coffee stains on the bedside cabinets that looked fresh and all the white walls in the room and hotel need a coat of paint.
Breakfast was adequate but full of flies. Not a lot of choice really......
Pool area was O.K but pool was disgusting and full of unfiltered dead skin and lots of other floaters...we come out in rashes each time we used the pool. Pool bar was reasonable and food was nice.
A long walk to the far end of Chaweng Strip but we did it everyday as we used to stop off and look at all the shops, bars on the way.
I wouldn't stay here again but to be honest it wasn't expensive so you pay for what you get I suppose.

Room Tip: Ask for the bigger room as they are large and worth the extra baht

Very good hotel with great personel.Good price for the high quality of the hotel and great pool. The only minus is weak and too sweet drinks served at the pool....party with a broken bottle in the room cost only 80 bath :)

Staff were very rude. When we rented a motorbike they charged us for damages that were there before and refused to give us back our passports untill we paid the 2000 baht so we had no choice. Only one member of staff could speak English well enough to understand us when we said we didn't have an accident and still charged us for the damages. Our room card didn't work most of the time so we had to go back downstairs to reception and have a member of staff reset the door everyday. They also tried to charge us for a towel they claimed was unable to be washed.

Pool bar and snacks were good. Staff friendly only speak little english but enough to get by id stay at hotel again. My only bad point was there was a lot of bugs other than that great hotel.

WHAT WE DID LIKE:
Location is wonderful - in the heart of Chaweng district but not in the most crowded place: you'll have a huge amount of bars, restaurants, spa salons, shops, parties etc. but not so big crowds as for example you have if you go down the street at about 10 minutes by foot (to have crowd - turn to the left on the main street when you go from your hotel) Great value for the money we paid. Nice and spacious room with a balcony, bright and clean Breakfast - pretty good. We always had what to choose and never were hungry :) Please do not forget it's 3 star hotel and its great price :) Of course you'll have better breakfast in 4 or 5 star hotel but you'll pay there 3-4times more for your stay

WHAT WE DIDN'T LIKE:
Nothing serious but just for your information: There are many Russian tourists live in this hotel with their touristic groups, from tour operators (P.S.: nothing personal, guys, we're Russian too, just traveled by ourselves). That's why hotel staff is a bit less nice than in other hotels - they ask you for "100% pay now" - it means you have to pay at check-in for all nights. If you haven't enough money and need to exchange it they ask you to leave a passport. Don't worry :) We left our passports and paid at check-out (just hadn't necessary amount in bahts at check-in). Everything was fine - we paid and got our passports back Because of the same reason (many tourists which travel with touristic groups) you'll find a whole pricelist in your room for every piece of stuff there (glasses, towels, remote control etc.) - if you brake smth or take with you they will ask you to pay for it (the hotel staff inspect your room during your check-out) :) It's a bit funny and weird but we have not live in such hotels (for touroperator's tourists) for ages so I think it's usual thing in such cases :)

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor with a pool view or courtyard view :)

Firstly, let e preface these comments by stating the old adage "You get what you pay for"!.

The Samui Verticolor is at the cheaper end of the scale for obvious reasons. My wife and I travelled here for a 12 night stay and have found the entire experience pretty average.

We found the reception staff very rude and unhelpful, especially morning and afternoon shifts. Non managerial staff, such as cleaning, pool bar etc were definately better.

The balcony has very limited space to hang any wet clothes, towels etc. Two thin pieces of wire attached to the wall and that's it. No chairs to sit on to have a drink and chat.

It only has a small number of english speaking television channels (BBC World, Discovery, Star Sports and two movie channels). This is out of a total of 15 channels on offer. When my wife became ill and was confined to our room for two days, there were hardly any options to pass the time. Most hotels have many more channels, including the Australia Network.

You are only allocated one key card per room. If you want to do different things, you have to leave the card at reception so the other party can access the room. We asked for a second one and were met with a blunt negative response!. We have stayed in many hotels throughout Asia and have always been allocated two access cards. You can't charge your moblle phone unless you are in the room as the card acts as a electricity connector. Once the card is taken out of the bracket on the wall, you no longer have any electricity.

It is fairly close to the beach, but a solid 20 minute walk to the heart of Chaweng.

The bed is large but extremely HARD and UNCOMFORTABLE.

The bathroom is very small, but the shower is a good size.

Overall, we would definately NOT stay here again!.

Room Tip: Make sure if you want to spend time on your balcony, bring your own chair.Choose a deluxe room rathe...
