“Beautiful Hotel”
Reviewed 11 October 2011

My husband and I have just returned from the Amari Palm in Samui. Could not fault the hotel or staff, nothing was too much trouble. We are certainly looking forward to going back again.
We met one couple that have been going to the Amari for the last ten years, and they have travelled the world - I think that say's it all. Can't wait to return next year. Barbara and John, Kent, England.

Room Tip: High floors have more A/C unit noise

Palm Reef is good for a short break with the family. The pool area overviewing the see makes it easy to keep an eye on the kids while they play in the water. The food is tasty and the staff smily. The rooms is however located across a road. We had a family room that was facing a back alley and the back of Prego (the resort Italian restaurant) with plenty noice early morning and late night. The stair case to the open kids beds room is also pretty dangerous (no wonder they make you sign a release from for potential damage from falling down). I was however a good and relaxing holiday.

Had the opportunity to stay at this resort in Sept of 2011. This is the 'low season' in Koh Samui and there are plenty of rooms to be had - at various price points.
We decided to stay at the Amari Palm Reef based largely on the Tripadvisor reviews.
The property was pretty much as expected;
Pros:
Nice clean and large rooms.
excellent houskeeping services
Very friendly and helpful staff
Hotel bar and Rest were nice
Breakfast was very good.
Cons:
Most of the pictures seem to imply that this resort is waterfront. Well the lobby, rest, bar and one (of 2 pools) are waterfront. However , most of the guest room are actually across the road and well away from the water.
For a hotel at this price point - having free wireless internet should be a given. Well the Amari offers free wi fi in the bar area but not in the rooms? Increasingly even budget hotels have made free wi fi a necessary amenity.

On the whole a decent stay. i probably wont be back given the many choices available.

Room Tip: They do have a few rooms overlooking the ocean. Not sure how many or how much. It would be worth try...

We stayed at the Palm Reef on our Honeymoon for 9 nights and have to say it is hard to fault. From the moment we arrived until we left, with the staff waving goodbye, the service was extremely good. Staff are very well trained and always on hand to help, with a smile and a greeting.
We had a deluxe room, 'over the road' (a 2 minute stroll) which was spacious and covered all our needs. Breakfast was buffet style and extremely good. We used the pool by the beach where there were plentiful towels and staff available at all times. The beach is nice here with the water very shallow. There are some nice little bars and restaurants if you turn left up the beach; we particularly enjoyed 'Chalala' - all the Thai people are so welcoming and we had great fun with the beach vendors.
For value, get your massages etc on the beach - two full body massages + one pedicure & one manicure = £25
Food at the hotel is good with the Beach BBQ and Thai food nights real highlights - just helping yourself to beautiful food (at about £20 & £14 per head respectively) and sitting and drinking on the beach; what more could you want.
Food & drinks can add up but we had a food & beverage discount (20%) from our operator, Destinology, and together with happy hours it really was not that bad. We ate at Prego three times and this was very good and although it wasn't consistently brilliant some of the food was, and at reasonable prices - fabulous service.
We wandered into Chaweng a couple of times and to my mind it is a dump, has an unclean feel to it and we were really glad to get back to the hotel. Hired a car for a day, had one or two good stops but the island doesn't seem to have too much to offer - a lot of the shoreline needs cleaning up.
Amari Palm Reef, would definately recommend it - good enough to make you feel special but affordable enough not to 'burn you pockets'. Can't see why you would need to spend more.
Our thanks to the excellent management at the hotel

After reading some of the negative reviews (as you always do) you often anticipate the worst. We travelled with friends in May 2011 and had two great weeks here, yes a little pricey, but if your on a tight budget then go to a cheaper hotel where you wont get the same level of service. Rooms where spotless and a good size, we were across the road from the beach, yes you had to walk to breakfast, the beach and reception, but hey what else do you have legs for?? we ate at the prego a few times and the food was very good.On checking in the reception staff seemed a little blunt initially (they were busy) when we didnt get the rooms we requested, but smile and ask nicely and hey presto... we got the rooms we wanted. All of the staff were fantastic, as always a few small much appreciated tips go a long way. The only negative to our holiday was Chaweng itself, it had been 10 years since my last visit here and wow what a change, its now a bit of a "tourist trap", but if you have never experienced Chaweng or Samui then you wont know any different and its a must.. ive probably been biased here as we love Hua HIn

Room Tip: Alot of greenery so try to get a room on an upper floor.. less mosquitos

I have been staying at the Amari on a regular basis for the last 10 years, often staying 2 to 3 times a year. I would not consider staying anywhere else whilst in Chaweng. This hotel is highly recommended and the facilities are really excellent. It really is like a second home and the warm welcome received from Preeya and her team and their willingness to please is second to none. The deluxe rooms are modern, clean and very comfortable and have everything you could possibly need for your stay. This is one of the most relaxing hotels I stay in, and the location is perfect at the top end of Chaweng Beach, so far enough away from the noise of the bars and clubs, but only a 10minute walk away if thats what you want. Get a chair on the beach under a palm tree and watch the world go by in this little snip of heaven. Gorgeous. Also check out Prego, the italian restaurant within the hotel - this is one of the best restaurants on the island. Highly reccomended.

Room Tip: I prefer the Deluxe rooms at the rear of the hotel complex, these are a little walk away but are set...

We are literally counting down the days until we can return to the beautiful Amari Palm Reef Hotel. From the moment we arrived we were made feel like we were the only guests in the hotel. The staff are fantastic I can't emphasise this enough. The hotel room was perfect and immaculately maintained by staff. The hotel is separated by a road but it is literally a 2 minute walk to the main hotel. Both pools are gorgeous and you have bar and food service at both sides. The buffet breakfast is unlike anything we have ever experienced. There was NOTHING that you could possibly want that wasn't already there. From fresh fruit & fruit juices, to make your own smoothies, full fry, omelettes made to order, traditional thai food, pancakes, french toast, muffins, cereals, an arag of meats and cheese and breads....the list is endless! We also ate at the poolside bar which was beautiful and had a fantastic dining experience in Prego...it's a must. There are special offers in the evenings buy one drink get one free and endless happy hours. Although we felt every hour was happy hour there. Can I also recommend there speciality cocktails....the strawberrylicious is heaven!!! We also organised our car hire and trip to the marine park from reception at a more than competitive and reasonable price. Everything about this hotel is luxury and absolute paradise. It was our honeymoon and we had a welcoming cake and fruit basket and fresh flower petals on our bed. We met so many couples of all ages, families with young children, honeymoon couples and groups of friends. The Amari caters for everyone. We can’t recommend this hotel enough and only hope that we get the chance to experience it all again - Fiona & Marty
