We are just back after 8 nights at the Amari Palm Reef. This is the 3rd time we have stayed in an Amari hotel but the first at the Palm Reef and was wondering what we could expect after reading some of the reviews before the holiday. However we were not disappointed. Our room was a Deluxe Garden room which was large with an equally large bathroom (one of the moans on a previous review was about the Superior rooms so maybe go for the Deluxe room if you want more space). We had a complementary dinner on our first night which was very good - a taste of 4 different Thai dishes. We also had a meal over at Prego one night which didn't reflect the usual Amari excellence - the staff were surly and the food okay. Breakfast was good with a huge choice. Yes there seems to be an issue with people reserving sunbeds down at the beach pool and the hotel doesn't seem to enforce the policy of removing towels if not in use but the garden pool was much quieter and there were always enough sunbeds to go around. The Spa was excellent - I had a relaxing massage (one of the best I have ever had) which wasn't cheap but the facilities were first class. My husband used the gym most days will I lay by the pool. The hotel bar was very good especially the Happy Hour and one particular waitress was so lovely (sadly I didn't get her name), we used it most nights as it was quieter and cooler than some of the bars along the main road. The location was great, close to the town and lots of restaurants but far enough away to be quiet. Finally I think the greatest asset of this hotel is the staff, they are so attentive and always smiling - like most Thai people. Thank you for making it such a wonderful holiday,

Room Tip: Go for a Deluxe Garden Room

Dear MMC61,

Thank you very much for the great report on your stay with us. I am very happy to hear that you enjoyed our service and facilities having chosen to stay with an Amari property again.

Your kind comments will be shared with the team who are always happy to hear when their efforts are appreciated, and I will mention your experience with our restaurant Prego to the team for their improvement.

Thank you again for sharing, and hope to welcome you back to Samui on another occasion,

Kind regards,

Martin Kunzmann

We stayed at the Amari for 2 weeks in 2011 and we loved it.. The staff were absolutely wonderful, couldn't do enough for you and always greeted us with a smile. it's situated in a nice quite part of the island. My husband had a great time drinking and sitting with the 2 young men named Alec. And Mr Teryiaki ( nick name) just out on the beach, when it came to say good-bye they cooked us a lovely fish meal and sat with us on our last night.. Truly unforgettable, so if anyone should see them there on your travels please say to them that "Charlie, from Australia said hello) thanks.

Our recent stay at the Amari Palm Reef (in a deluxe garden view room) was nothing short of fabulous (our first time in Thailand). We spoke to other people who had paid for upgrades, and whom were disappointed with their rooms. Ours was of a great size (including the bathroom), and cleaned to a high standard every day. The air conditioning also worked a treat - essential in Ko Samui.

The hotel is located at the quieter northern end of Chewang beach - I'm so glad that we picked this location - it's close enough to the action but far enough away to be quiet and restful.

Yes, the hotel was busy whilst we were there - possibly one of the busiest amongst its neighbours. At no point though did I feel as though it was overcrowded. There was a bit of a fight for the sunbeds, and a few noisy children, but none of this bothered us at all.

The staff are lovely - always ready to great you with a smile from the front desk right down to the cleaning staff. Happy Hour in the bar is recommended - we took advantage most nights. We didn't eat in the hotel so can't comment, but we heard really mixed reports with some people saying fabulous, and others saying waste of money!

I'm really struggling to come up with any niggles, and the only one could be that there really isn't enough wardrobe/drawer space for a 2 week break. We managed perfectly though.

I would definitely consider staying here again on our next trip to Thailand, and that won't be too far off!!!

we stayed here for 1 night only on are way back from Koh Tao and it was great, pool are is busy but with such a nice atmosphere!
Lunch and cocktails here were delicious too!

There was one lady on reception who helped my fiance plan to put valentines flowers chocolates and champagne in our room before check in as a surprise was the most professional and lovely workers.

Breakfast had alot of choice which was great!

Location is perfect, just on chaweng beach but not right in the hussel and bussel but a 5 minute walk and your there!

They really look after you in this resort and nothing is too much trouble.

Will defiantly be staying here for longer on our next trip to Thailand!

Sitting at Koh Samui airport on our way home. 11 days of beautiful relaxation at Amari.
Deluxe Garden View room great size and we were lucky with a ground floor - loved it.
Food great, breakfasts great - never ate lunch but managed to eat 3 dinners. Thanks to the great chiefs. Once at Prego (oK) and twice in Amari - can't complain.
Pool over the back much quieter than by the sea.
We will be back
