The hotel location is great.
The standard rooms are too small. One needs to upgrade to the delux rooms.
The beach is right there and excellent.
Has a decent Italian restaraunt Prego.
Can hire bikes/cars from nearby vendors.
Hotel staff is helpful.

The hotel itself is at the quiter end of Chawang beach, but a 5 minute walk gets you into the lively centre. The hotel is spread over two sides of the raod and is definatly a beautiful place for quiet relaxtion, with beach area, 2 pools and great staff. the restaurants are lovely but its much cheaper, with lots more choice to eat in the centre. Drink and food from the beach hawkers mean you get 4 beers for the price of one in the hotel, and they are quite happy for you to sit on the beach with them. The restaurants serving noodles a short walk down the beach are delightful, although not as plush as the hotel, as with the massage stands 500 baht will get you an hours massage as oppose to 3000 in the hotel, but you are obviously lacking the air con etc! I would definately recoomend the hotel for couples wanting the best of both worlds. taxis are really expensive in Samui as they can charge what they like so it's a safe bet to find somewhere to stay in walking distance of the things you might want to do .

We stayed here on our honeymoon for 1 week. Right from our arrival we were very impressed with the courteous and professional staff. The breakfast buffet is truly something to behold with every taste catered for. The rooms, gardens and pools are kept spotlessly clean by the army of cleaners and gardeners. Its loacation is ideal being just on the edge but not too close to the town centre and also right on the beach. On the downside I would advise going towards town when looking to eat and drink as it is on the expensive side in the hotel but all in all we found this hotel to be one of the best we have stayed in. We would advise anyone to stay here as you wil not be dissapointed.

The location is excellent, the staff are brilliant but most of the rooms are across the road from the beach and, as we stay in South Africa 500 kms. from the nearest coast we desparately wanted to see the sea. We were moved into a beach front room at an extra cost which we paid and did not regret it but I would suggest that you make sure that you are happy staying out of sight of the sea or to pay extra if not before booking.

This hotel has a great location on Chaweng Beach. The beach itself is very nice with minimal hawkers (still some, but not as hectic as other parts of the beach). The hotel is close walking distance to town (where there are lots of restaurants and other things to do) but is far away enough to feel as though you are not in the middle of a bustling town.

The hotel itself is split across the road; one part of the hotel is on the beach, the other part is across the road. We stayed at the part on the beach, which was quite nice. We got a superior room on agoda.com for about $144USD (not including tax/service) per night. I have to say that the room wasn't worth the price, but it was worth the hotel with all the facilities and location.

The room itself was quite small. It had all the usual amenities (TV, cable, strong AC, toiletries, inroom safe, etc). The bathroom was very small and lacked character with a small and inexpensive looking shower stall. But overall it was functional and clean. The bed was very comfortable and there was a small sofa that made the room cozier. It was dark and I hesitated to open the curtains because there was a service path outside our window.

Breakfast was included in the rate and it was excellent. There was lots of choice and the food overall was quite good. We also had lunch at the daytime restaurant and the food was good as well, though pricey for what you get. We also ate at Prego across the road and it was delish. Highly recommend it.

The pool is very nice on this side of the hotel. The pool on the other side of the hotel is nice, but does not have as much character as the one on the beach. The fitness facility is very good with new equipment in a clean, well AC'd spot overlooking the pool.

We also went to the spa and the service was excellent. It is pricey and there are many better deals to be had on the island, but there was a reasonable promotion on and we took advantage before getting on the plane. It was unfortunate that there was construction going on behind the spa, so it wasn't as relaxing as we hoped.

It sounds as though rooms on this side of the hotel would be disturbed by the construction... so find out where the room is before booking (or after booking make sure your room is on the beach side) because who knows how long the construction will be going on.

The front desk service was just okay. Though the staff were perfectly pleasant (and English facility is excellent) I got a feeling that staff were jaded and I felt somehow that they spoke to us as though they were doing us favors. It's hard to characterize, but there was something rather disingenuous about the way they interacted with us as guests. So strange to say because I've not experienced this before!

Oh and internet was horrifically pricey -- about 200THB++ per hour. Go down the road to one of the many internet cafes or cafes with free wireless rather than pay the crazy price for wireless.

Overall, it was a nice stay. I don't feel like it was a good deal and probably won't come here again unless the price drops another 25% or so, but I don't regret coming here. Staff service can be greatly improved at the front desk -- staff at the spa were perfectly nice, especially the therapists.

We did extensive research on Tripadvisor prior to our vacation and the reviews were very helpful. We want to share our experiences in hopes of helping others.

We spent 6 nights in Koh Samui from October 8-14th. The weather was amazing, no rain, and plenty of sunshine. It was in the high 80s everyday. Here are some highlights....

Hotel - Amari Palm Resort. Very nice resort and away from all the hustle and bustle. However, it was only a 10 minute walk to downtown. Room and service was great. Beach was clean and water was calm. Breakfast buffet and hotel bar was great. You can get drinks and snacks on the beach from vendors for much less than the hotel. They even come up to your beach chair if you wish.

Sivara Spa - Spa at Amari Palm Resort. Good prices, and great service.

Ninja Crepes - Great restaurant for authentic Thai lunch or dinner. It's across the street from the Buri Rasa resort. Very inexpensive.

Timmy's Tailorshop - Great tailor. Timmy was great, great, great and provided us with the best service. We were very pleased with the quality. He's located across from the Beachcomber Hotel.

Prego - Italian restaurant. Nice decor and food was good. However, it's very expensive when it comes to Thailand standards.

Day Excursion - Ang Thong National park with Safari Island Tours. Great scenery, snorkeling was ok. Take the speedboat as the better option.

We wanted a place where we could do nothing except read, relax, fall into a cooling pool, eat well, and sunbathe (me) and have instant access to good airconditioning (my husband). We had been to the Amari Reef five years ago, and chose here as the place to meet our needs this time. First reason for returning - the sheer delightfulness of every one of the staff - warm, personal, willing to go the second mile to help in every case - I have difficulty in walking, and was never allowed to go for more than a few steps before a member of staff was there to carry my food at breakfast/fetch me a towel for the sun bed, etc. Nothing was too much trouble, and all done with warmth, a sunny smile, personal interaction and genuine interest and care. We had a basic 'superior' room, which was something of a disappointment - we must have been upgraded previously, I think, though I don't remember that; the room was small, though the bed large and wonderful; the balcony overlooked the reception area, and was hardly private; we were situated on a stone corridor, which echoed; the people on the next-door balcony smoked heavily, so much of the time it was impossible to sit out on the balcony anyway. But the room cleaning service, again, was regular, personal, impeccable - I wish some of our UK hotels could be kept to this same standard. Location: quiet end of Chaweng Beach, but within easy walking of the centre of Chaweng, even for me. Beach is perfect, as is the poolside side of the hotel - just imagine a hotel anywhere else where you are assisted across the road by two Lollipop Men! Amenities - really surprisingly limited, but we really didn't need any. We found the cost of the hotel restaurants very high, but there is an excellent Chinese restaurant down the beach, on the beach, which met our needs perfectly. On the other hand, watching the care and effort the hotel staff put in, preparing for special events, special meals, beach barbecues, etc , obviously the high charges were justified, especially as we were there in low season, and there were very few guests around. We cannot fault the hotel for guest service and attention - they are wonderful.
