Definitely one of the most beautiful resorts on Chaweng Beach. Plenty of sun loungers beside the pools as well as on the beach and the staff bring the occasional complimentary frozen drinks and snacks so you can taste some of the local delights. Breakfast is incredible, with everything you can imagine from American to Asian to European tastes, the fresh fruit is the best I've had. The rooms are spacious, cool, very clean and the beds are comfortable. We were in a room a short walk over the road from the beach which we were apprehensive about at first but it had a large garden which was almost completely private and very peaceful. This wing of the resort has its own pool and is very close to the hotel's own fabulous Italian restaurant Praego where we dined a couple of times and highly recommend. We wanted a refresher scuba lesson before venturing to Ko Tao, the hotel boasts its own PADI dive masters - Claudio was very professional and reassured us in the pool at the Amari before heading out to the fantastic dive sites the following day. There are daily activities and various buffets on the beach which are optional. They also brought me a lovely birthday surprise to our room, a yummy cake which was a nice gesture. All in all we can't recommend this resort highly enough, we would definitely go back.

This is my second time staying at Amari. It is advertised as a “4 Star Samui Chaweng Beach Resort” and it definitely lives up to the descriptions on the website. The Amari is located at one end of Chaweng beach, close to shops and nightlife. The Amari has friendly, helpful staff that are able to assist with activity planning or additional reservations.

I stayed in a Deluxe, garden view room. It wasn’t the largest room I have ever stayed in Asia but it was big enough, nicely decorated, immaculately clean and had a beautiful garden view.

The resort itself is beautifully landscaped and has 2 big pools with the usual lounges surrounding the pools. Half the resort right on the beach and the other half is across the road in a nicley landscaped garden setting. A breakfast buffet was included in the price and it was excellent with many international choices.

There is a lovely bar area near the pool which was excellent place for sitting and relaxing following the day’s activities. I didn’t eat dinner at Amari but the tables they set out on the beach every night looked very inviting. I think mosquito coils would be helpful at all the outdoor dining areas as the mosquitoes were especially hungry the days I was there.

I didn’t take advantage of the spa and thought the prices were a little high for Thailand although perhaps not for resort prices.

I will definitely stay here again when I return to Koh Samui.

After staying in a small hotel in Bangkok and then another fairly small boutique hotel in Chiang Mai we were disssapointed with Amari. I booked a deluxe room and there wasn't anything deluxe about it it looked like a regular room. With the minus side of being on the other side of the road from the beach (I was told that all the deluxe rooms are on this side - so if you want to stay on the side where the beach is i suggest not bothering with a deluxe room. The guy who checked us in took forever to do so and it didn't feel very personal. Maybe because we'd stayed in smaller hotels previous to this, if you have too - I would say stick to the smaller hotels as I think the service is much better. One of the evenings we stayed it was raining really heavily so we decided to get a DVD from reception as they had a DVD player in the room, however the selection of DVD's was rubbish so that's something they need to look at - I know not everyone goes on holiday to watch DVD's in their room but in our situation you couldn't do anything else!

The best thing about the hotel is the breakfast - amazing! Massive buffet with a huge selection - so make sure you really fill up at breakfast time.

Overall; I wouldn't stay here again if I was given the choice considering the amount of money I paid.

We were pleasantly surprised to find that the Amari Palm Reef in Koh Samui is everything it says in its online site and the reviews were right on. The location is EXCELLENT. Not in the middle of the markets and nightlife, but a mere few minutes walk and you hit the action. As has been written previously - the hotel is split in two: the lobby, dining room, a pool and some rooms on the beach side of the road and many rooms, another (terrific) pool, the spa and the gym on the other side of the road. We wanted quiet rooms and connecting doors (we went with our two kids- aged 13, 16) and were very pleased with the rooms, the quiet and the surroundings - which were on "the other side of the road". It is quieter there and just as nice. By the way - there are people helping to cross the road 24/7, so its fine with small children too! Both pools are terrific - beautiful, plenty of room, clean and well kept, with comfortable chairs that are in excellent condition. The gym is small, but with the latest equipment - airconditioned, water, cool towels - all at your disposal. We only at breakfast there, which was delicious and really had every kind of food you could want, because dinner was costly compared to other places in the area. One point about the dining room - no airconditioning! - just some overhead fans that are hard put to do the job. Not the most pleasant to sweat and eat (and it is humid and warm during most months of the year). We recommend walking along the beach to find a place to eat - it is beautiful and you can find a meal for any pocket. There are also excellent deals walking along the strip. We were surprised to see 7-elevens on every corner (get what you need there! cheap) and a great many American restaurants. My kids had ice-cream sundaes every night at Swensens.
DO - watch out for the taxi prices. It is no more than 10 minutes to the hotel from the (beautiful!) airport and they charge 500 baht (it costs 400 baht to travel 35 min to the middle of Bangkok from the airport). We were disappointed in the hotel that tried to have us pay 700 baht from the hotel to the airport - so we took a taxi that was waiting outside, that charged us the 500. We felt the hotel should be helping and not overcharging. Other than that - GREAT hotel and experience. After checking out most of the hotels on that strip of the Island, we couldn't have been happier that we chose the Amari Palm Reef. (PS - beach is small, but very nice there too!!)

We came home 2 weeks ago from a fantastic holiday at the Amari Palm reef. As soon as you land at Koh Samui Airport you know that you've arrived in Paradise!
I think that people who moan about this hotel should get a life! They probably have an attitude especially if they make comments about the filter being at the side of a pool to clean it. well thats terrible, how dare they put such a thing on view to keep the pools clean, and the gardeners are constantly cutting grass and clearing the leaves to keep the grounds pristine..terrible! These people need to have more things to worry about in life than to be petty about the staffs efforts and to give a bad review. They do a brilliant job, the hotel and grounds are immaculate and all the staff are really smart.
We travelled with Trailfinders and had a deluxe room (Also 20% off food and drink in the hotel) over the road from the main reception. It was a beautiful 4 minute walk from our room on the 3rd floor to the restaurant overlooking the sea for breakfast which had everything you could imagine and more, everything was cooked to perfection, other reviews complained that there were curries for breakfast, so what?? if you dont like it dont have it, there's plent more choice, I even tried sushi one day and my other half had beef or chicken regularly for his breakfast, he thought it was great. If you want just British food I suggest you go to Benidorm, there were very few British people at the Amari and different cultures eat different meals.
The room had everything, big flat screen TV and DVD player, a bowl of fruit several times during our stay, a beach bag, 2 umbrella's, slippers, dressing gowns, iron and ironing board and toiletries that were replenished every day.
The whole ambience of the place was lovely and very peaceful and relaxing, even the loos smelled lovely, I asked the manager (Christoph, who was really friendly and helpful)what oil they used in the burners and bought some home!
All the staff were excellent and very polite, the lads around the pool put your towel on the sunbed for you and come round with small tasters of fruit smoothie's and nibbles, the ladies from the spa sometimes give complimentary massages by the pool.
At night the staff come to your room just before dark to spray your room with bug spray and leave an orchid on your bed. Yes there are mosquitos ...but it's a tropical island!!! If you do get bit, go to the local chemist and get "Monkey holding a peach" ointment, it really works.
The bar is expensive (They also add 10% service charge and 7% tax to all bills) so if you're on a budget buy drinks, snacks & ice creams from the vendors on the beach, they do lovely corn on the cob, spring rolls and Chicken skewers, our favourite was the soup, it sounds weird eating hot soup in about 35 degrees heat but it's lovely!
The Bar is beautiful and really chilled they have a happy hour (3 hours!) and it's all night on a Thursday, even at buy one get one free the usual price of drinks elsewhere is far cheaper .
We went to the Thai buffet on the beach, it was gorgeous and really romantic as we were right next to the sea and it was reasonable at 550 BHT each.
We preferred to turn left when you got on the beach as it's much quieter then the middle part. There is a lovely bar & restaurant with 'sails' over the tables called "Your place", it's a lovely place to relax and people watch, or just lie gazing at the stars and the fireworks that go off randomly on the beach! The son of the owners does a really good fire show and he's really friendly.
We ate at Prego one night it was really good, one review said it was poor and likened it to Zizzi's, if our local Zizzi's was a patch on Prego we'd be there every day!
We found that in general the places off the main street were much better than the up market restaurants and about a quarter of the price. We went back on our last night to Sun East restaurant, it's down the street on the left hand side at the side of the new Andaman's restaurant. The menu is confusing and the photocopying is rubbish but the staff are brilliant, very friendly and will cook exactly what you want.
The Andamans restaurant nearest the Amari, (there are 3 in Chaweng Beach) down the road on the right hand side is the best one, the fillet steak there is huge and the best I've ever tasted.
If you want to buy anything, go to a few places to see what their best price is then barter with the cheapest one, most places sell the same stuff. Start at about a third of the price and go up.
We had two lovely suits made at "Modern Suits International" about half way down on the left hand side. Roger was really good and even told us how to tell if the material was good quality by burning a small piece of the different qualities. He wasn't pushy and was genuine so thats why we decided on there to make our suits.
If you get hassled by any of the tailors just say you've already ordered one, it's the easiest way to get rid of them!
There is a free BBQ at the Arc bar on the beach from 4pm every wednesday, we heard it was good but didn't go as we were on trips.
Dont miss the Ang Thong Marine Park trip with Kayaking round some of the islands, you can choose to go on a speedboat or a more traditional one.
Also the Safari is brilliant, you see all the main attractions on the island and it's such a laugh.
We chose not to book through the rep but at one of the travel agents on the main street, it was on the left hand side just as the road forks to the right, it says "Internet & email" on the window, we booked 3 trips and I bartered him down on the price! Other people on the same trips had paid more via their reps.
Be warned, it is REALLY hot, and we went in September when it's cooled down!! We had to buy factor 30 while we were there, and we were using the factor 50 that I'd bought for my face on shoulders etc.
Koh Samui airport is beautiful, there are comfy seats in the depature lounge and a "Courtesy Corner" where you can get free drinks and snacks.
We would definitely recommend anybody to go there, it's Paradise :-)

If you leave for the airport before breakfast (We left at 5am) ask for a breakfast box, you definitely wont go hungry and everything in it was lovely.

Thailand is a beautiful country with lovely people and gorgeous food, I can't wait to go back and try a different part of the country.

We had a wonderful 10 night stay at Amari Palm Reef during September 2010.
The staff was friendly and the service efficient. We had a lovely spacious room and bathroom at the back of the property, surrounded by beautiful gardens.
The hotel has a small but very nice gym and a gorgeous spa.
We spent most days next to the seaside pool or on the hotels loungers on the beach.
The pools and public areas are excellent and beautiful and we usually had cocktails in the open lounge area and relaxed on the lovely couch/beds.
The whole setting is idyllic and also very family friendly, so I hope to return soon with the whole family.
