“Great Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 September 2008

We stayed here (a couple) the last week in august, the first week in september and it is a great place to stay. We were greated at receiption with a lemongrass drink and the staff were all very very helpful. We stayed in a deluxe superior room and it was worth every penny. The room was very nice, big bed, big sized room and the great jacuuzi bath for two.

It just a one minute walk to the pool which has great views of the beach and it is located in what i think is the best and cleanest part of chewang beach. You are away from all the dirty parts i nthe middle and you couldnt fault its location. You are only about 20 miutes walk on the beach from town or you can get the local bus( a red van) into town for 50 baht. And for that little walk or bus ride it is most definitely worth it. There is no beach during high tide in front of the hotel, but about 20 yards away the beach starts again and there are plenty of sun loungers if you want to sit there.

The pool is also very nice and never really too crouded, but if you want a good lounger be there early. Happy hour begins at 5 and a mention to Oh who would always sort you out with a nice drink, a taster from that night menu and some nuts to eat away while you sit i n the pool with your drink. Also a mention to the guy who works on the travel desk across from reception, he doesnt wear a name tag but was very very helpful.

All in all this hotel is well worth it and a great place to stay would defo stay there again. Samui is a very friebdly place to stay, be nice to the locals and they will be twice as nice to you. Great place.

We stayed in the Baan Haad Ngam Boutique Resort from the 7th to the 23rd of July this year and found it to be a very pleasant and enjoyable experience.

Our room (a Deluxe Villa) was very clean (certainly no bugs and/or geckos) and relatively modern. As an earlier reviewer mentioned, there was an occasional lingering unpleasant odour to be detected around the villa area but in my experience this seems typical for the island as a whole.

The breakfast food was excellent, though the restaurant became a little pricey at other times.

Best feature of the hotel was for sure the service (honourable mention to 'Oh') and a general feeling of quality throughout.

For us the main letdown for the hotel was the beach. It is achingly beautiful to look at when the sun is out, but a bit 'wormy' up close and a long hike to somewhere you can actually swim - and forget about building sandcastles. That said however, a 150 Baht taxi or tuk-tuk ride will get you to the Chaweng Noi beach area (where we stayed last year) and, in our opinion, the finest beach around about. Alternatively a 10 minute walk up the beach will anyway see the situation much improved.

The pool as well was a bit on the small side but probably about right for the necessarily limited number of sun loungers available.

In short then, if you're looking for a clean, comfortable, quiet hotel away from the Chaweng Road bustle, with good food and great service, then you can't go wrong.

Three of us stayed 4 nights in early July in two adjacent beautiful rooms near the top of this small friendly resort, which sort of cascades down the slope to the beach . A very friendly welcome late at night on arrival, matched by friendly and helpful staff all through our stay. The lovely but small pool is right at the water's edge (but about 2 metres above the beach level). The beach in front of the hotel is covered by the sea at high tide (sand seems to have been washed away) and at low tide it is a fair walk out to the water; further along the beach towards Chaweng town, the beach is a little steeper and easier for swimming. Great breakfast in the restaurant overlooking the beach (easy to eat too much) and lunch there is good too. All the staff were friendly but 30 year old Oh was outstanding... he told us his story, taught us some Thai and was ever helpful with menus, pool gear, directions etc . We did not eat at the hotel restaurant at night (turns into a pricey Italian restaurant) but ate at various places nearby along the beach ( however you may need to deal with quite a few mosquitos if you eat right near the beach) .
Our rooms at the top of the hotel were beautifully designed and very clean (yes, a few geckos but they were welcome) . A huge TV but we did not turn it on. There was sometimes an unpleasant smell near some of the free standing "villas" close to the pool and beach, possibly stagnant water in the decorative ponds.
Two of us used the hotel's house massage (easy to book)... more expensive than the various places along the beach but more private and very good. We booked a small car through the hotel to drive around Koh Samui.. slightly more expensive than in Chaweng town but very convenient for booking and pickup/drop off and full insurance included.
Taxis to and from Chaweng town should be no more than 150 Baht, but the walk along the beach is a nice alternative. Internet expensive in the hotel, but cheap at a travel agency 30 metres away on the corner of the main road (very persistent suit seller next door).
Summary : a boutique hotel, quiet, very friendly, close to the airport (but no flight noise), no public areas other than the restaurant where guests can gather... if you want a larger hotel, more people and a noisier time there are plenty of other options. Yes we would like to come back.

My husband and I were booked at this resort by our travel agent. We checked tripadisor and saw all good reviews . We had stayed at 5 star hotels in the last two cities in Thailand and then pulled up to this. I wouldn't even classify it as a resort. It was not the cleanest looking place, the employees did not speak english well and the rooms were not the greatest. We didn't want to hang out in our room at all so we booked massages, get there and were told that we didn't have a reservation. We had to cross a disgusting muddy street that was literally 5 inches deep after a rain to get to our villa. Upon arrival, we were upgraded to a villa which is closer to the beach and right next to an awful smell near the restaurant. We could not escape the foul odor. The beach wasn't the greatest. There were bugs everywhere, I moved my pillow to find big black bugs scurrying, they were not flies but bugs. GROSS! We complained about this and they moved us into one of their regular rooms, which for some reason cost more? We move all our stuff into the room to find a gecko inside our room. We were told that it wouldn't harm us and by that point we just wanted to get to bed. The next morning, we checked out which they gave us a hard time about and moved to an awesome awesome resort with a beautiful beach and awesome service. I would not recommend this place to anyone!

We stayed here for our honeymoon from June 20 till June 25 2008. Great room, lovely pool area and generous breakfast. The location is a little bit inconvenient and really takes about 25 to 30 minutes to walk to the town centre, but as in other reviews it doesn't cost much to get a taxi (dont pay more than 150 baht) or a tuk-tuk (don't pay more than 100 baht) to get to and from the heart of Chaweng.
A word on airport taxis - if you have not arranged an airport transfer to your hotel, do not be fooled by the people who greet you at the airport when you arrive in Samui who tell you that there are no metered taxis and the fare will be 400 baht to get to Chaweng. It is true that the taxi drivers do not put their meters on in Samui, but just walk out of the airport terminal and pay no more than 300 baht to get to Chaweng. This is overpriced compared to what you would pay in a Bangkok metered taxi but the best airport taxi fare you are likely to get on Samui.
If you are booking a tour, go to the tour offices in Chaweng and the prices are generally negotiable by about 100 to 150 baht. The tours are all run by the same companies so do not book these trips at hotels or with the American or English tour operators, it is obvious that they take a generous cut and are not willing to negotiate on price.
We did the jungle safari tour for 1500 baht each which was excellent and worth every cent. We also did the snorkelling day trip to Koh Tao which was also brilliant and well worth the 1500 baht each.
We found the restaraunts on the main street of Chaweng to be good value for money and great food, we highly recommend Weiner Snitzel or Will Wait restaraunt. The only hotel restaraunt we ate at was the one at the Muang Samui Hotel just to experience the beachfront dining atmosphere. The food here was great but these upmarket restarants charge you a 10% service fee as well as 7% VAT on top of their menu prices.
We loved Samui in general and were happy with our hotel but if we visit again we would probably stay a bit closer to the main part of Chaweng.

I just came back from Koh Samui, where my husband and I stayed at the Baan Haad Ngam for four nights. I usually get homesick on my vacations, but this time I realized that I was actually sad to leave this hotel.

The location of this small boutique hotel is great - it's in Chaweng, but about a 15 minute walk away from all the hustle and bustle of the center (the hotel has a free shuttle to the center, but oddly enough, only until 5pm - and if you've been to Koh Samui before, you know that last thing you want to do during the day is walk around and shop in the blistering sun). Do yourself a favor and take a taxi for 150 baht - there are always taxis hanging around the hotel corner, waiting to take you into the city.

We stayed in the deluxe room, which was simply perfect. They pre-cooled our room prior to our arrival, and lit an aromatherapy candle so that it smelled nice when we checked in, which was a nice touch. The maids make different animals from the fresh towels every day - which, however cheesy it sounds, was a cute detail.

The room was comfortable, the jacuzzi great. The breakfast was also nice, and the beach simply PERFECT! We did not eat at the restaurant Olivio, but I would suggest The Red Snapper in Chaweng Center, which was also Italian and very delicious.

I would definitely stay at this hotel again - would probably try to villa next time just to mix it up.

The Baan Haad Ngam is located at the northern end of Chaweng Beach although not, by any means, isolated from the main shopping area or any of the action. The best way to get into town is a stroll along the beach.

The villa room we booked was perfect - huge bed, plenty of storage / hanging space and great bathroom with two sinks (essential!). The room was also very large, clean and fresh flowers always.

The restaurant (Olivio's) next to the pool was open and had a great view of the beach. The breakfast selection was fantastic and, although we ate Thai most of the time, Olivio's is considered to be the best Italian restaurant on Koh Samui and the food was terrific with a lot of fresh local seafood on the menu. While on the dining side of things, we highly recommend Eat Sense for dinner when in Koh Samui.

The pool is not quite as large as it appears in photos, however, still lovely and clean. We stayed in low season so I imagine that it could be difficult to secure a banana lounge when it is a little busier. That being said, we never had any trouble finding a spot to lay in the sun.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Would love to return (sooner rather than later!) and could not recommend the Baan Haad Ngam highly enough.
