“Good location and Good value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 January 2014

Me and my husband checked in to this resort for a couple nights. We live here on the island and my husband is a surfer so the surf was on at a time and we didn't want to drive back and forth because we live in Lamai. The hotel is located in a very nice part of Samui, in Chaweng noi. It's very nice beach but it's not as crazy and busy like Chaweng. The room was adequate. The restaurant is nice. The price was great. I'm just not sure about the extension (Beach bar) that they built on the beach. I think that's not so nice as the beach is supposed to be for everyone.

Overall is good.

Impiana is a small Malaysian chain that specializes in 3-4 star resort hotels. Years ago, I enjoyed an Impiana property in Phuket, and booked the Chaweng hotel because of its competitive price and good location near the main portion of Chaweng Beach.

The hotel appears to be quite new, and has a decent stretch of beachfront on Chaweng Noi, which is just south of the Chaweng Beach strip. I liked the relative quiet of Chaweng Noi, combined with the easy proximity to all of restaurants and shopping on Chaweng itself. The Impiana runs several shuttles a day to Chaweng, and it's also relatively easy to hail one of the passing pick-up taxis (note that fare to Chaweng should be 50 baht/person).

The hotel itself is a three-story "U" shape, with a couple of rows of "cottages" angled toward the beach in the front. The rooms all have small outdoor areas, and most appear to have at least a partial sea view. We stayed in one of the "cottages", which are actually slightly larger rooms in clusters of two, with a semi-shared front porch area. The layout feels somewhat crowded and doesn't offer a great deal of privacy, although there is some green space in the center of the property.

Our room was clean and comfortable, with all of the expected features in this price range. Everything worked well, with the exception of the electricity, which was slightly spotty. The large bed took up most of the floor space, and there is no separate indoor seating area. The bathroom was functional, with a good supply of toiletries and other amenities.

If a pool is your priority, then you might not like the Impiana. The main pool is quite small, and only has room for four deck chairs; there's a smaller children's pool nearby.

The resort was full, and although staff members seemed a little bit taxed, service was fine. Breakfast was frenetic, with long lines jockeying for everything from coffee to omelettes, but the food was good and it was always possible to get a table. The restaurant was much more relaxed at lunch and dinner, and the one meal we had was above-average.

Guests were a mix of couples and families from Europe, Australia, and South Asia, with a few East Asians and Americans thrown in. The resort has several rows of loungers on the beach, and most people seemed to stake out a claim fairly early in the day, although competition for beach space may be less intense outside of holiday periods.

Overall, I thought the Impiana was good value for the money. Samui has moved up-market in recent years, and the Impiana is worth looking at if you want basic beachfront comforts without a high price tag.

We stayed there for 3 nights and the service was amazing over there. Frankly we were not expecting this kind of hotel service on that price. Room was brilliant with a very nice view. Pool was amazing, specially during the evening time with soothing music. And I have to agree the break fast they provided was good indeed with a beautiful beach view.
If you want to dine in outside the hotel restaurant, then there are some other food shop within the walking distance.
Overall service is good.

Room Tip: Room nearest to the beach

We stayed here for three nights and for the cheap price we paid we were pleasantly surprised. The resort is beautiful and situated right on a white sandy beach. Our room was modern and the staff were friendly and helpful. It is situated a little outside the main town but the resort put on a free shuttle bus into town a few times a day.

We recently stayed at the Impiana for 9 nights for our daughters wedding ., We upgraded to the most magnificent absolute beachfront deluxe suite, which was perfect. Literally right on the beautiful beach :).

Some of the rooms need a "facelift" and some work done on them , but overall, it was very good.
This resort caters for all ages. My mobility assisted 85 year old mother in law, could not have been helped more by the wonderful caring staff at the Impiana. Even though there are a lot of steps, they were available to help us at an instance if required.
Easy access by the Impiana shuttle bus to Chaweng for shopping.

The wedding was amazing, the flowers were perfect & the food was first class. The Impiana staff were friendly & very helpful in every way.
If there was an issue, the staff would be there as fast as possible to help & rectify any issue. We had a few issues with our air conditioning, which was fixed as soon as reported.
The new beach bar will be amazing when finished just in time for Christmas.
I would not hesitate to return to this absolute beachfront hotel, with all the facilities required for a relaxing holiday .
I will be returning to Impiana Koh Samui for my next Thailand holiday .

Room Tip: choose a seaview room or deluxe suite if you want to be right on the beach

The review might be tainted by the poor weather we had. We booked 6 nights and only stayed 3.
This was mainly due to the poor weather as we decided to cut our losses and move to Krabi. However if the hotel was more comfortable we might have stayed longer.
When we arrived we were given a sea view superior room although you couldn't seethe sea as they were building a new beach bar and when it wasn't raining they were working on this.
The side effect was all the chairs were pushed one end of the beach making it very cramped. There were only 4 loungers at the pool. Not great.
The beds were rock hard and our air con left pools of water on the floor. The rooms were average at best for a 4 star hotel.
On the plus side the food was good, location was ok and I am sure the beach would be a lot more appealing with better weather and no building work.
We got a good deal online but honestly speaking we wouldn't stay again so can't recommend it. Spa was nice and again they had a good discount.

We recently stayed at the Impiana for 8 nights for our wedding and honeymoon, along with 40 of our guests and had a great time. We found the staff friendly and helpful and any minor issues amongst our party (of which there were few), were dealt with swiftly and efficiently.

Unlike many resorts which claim to be 'right on the beach', the Impiana really is right on its own piece of private beach. During our stay there were plenty of sun loungers and chairs available on the beach and at the beach bar. There was also a new beach bar under construction, which when finished looks like it will be a classy addition to an already great hotel. There were Happy Hour's at the beach bar throughout the day with 2 for 1 drinks and cocktails which were great and the breakfasts offered great hot and cold options. The coffee was also really good!

A few days into our stay we had our wedding on the beach and the reception at the restaurant. Having arranged the entire wedding and reception from overseas we were nervous but it turned out there was no need. Sujin, the Director of Food and Beverage at the resort and his staff put on a day that was far beyond anything we could have imagined.

The flowers were gorgeous and beautifully put together (and as a florist I'm a tough critic) and the ceremony and reception looked fabulous. The food was amazing and there was more than enough for everyone to have seconds and even thirds and fourths if they wanted. When the heavens opened later in the evening the staff had everything moved inside at lightning speed and the party carried on seamlessly.

We arranged tours through the hotel which made the entire process really smooth and easy. My Grandmother has trouble getting around, so the hotel arranged a private driver and van for us to create our own tour for her. The total cost for 4 hours was only 3,000 Baht for a van which carried 8 people and we were able to go and see all of the sites at our leisure.

We also made use of the spa while we were there and the treatments were lovely.

The only things that were a slight issue during our stay was the safe had to be opened by a staff member each day and the bathroom was quite smelly. However, having stayed at another resort on the island for a few nights, the bathroom smell seems to be an island issue, not a resort one. It was easily remedied anyway by simply covering the main drain in the floor and keeping the plugs in the sink and bath.

With a party that consisted of honeymooners, families with children as young as 12 months old and even my 85 year old grandmother, the Impiana catered to every guest perfectly.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this resort to anyone who wants to visit Koh Samui, whether for a family holiday or a romantic getaway.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 310 which was huge and in a great location overlooking both the pools and the beac...
