just got back hours ago from this resort - will go back for sure & will stay here again .
positives - great location , good swimming out the front , braekfast was good as expected , view from the resort facing the beach was excellent , staff were helpful.Suggest if possible try to upgrade to the junior suites - facing the beach , twice the size & very cheap .

Coldn't find much to complain about the resort - not 5 star but great value .
Have some pictures if needed - advise me of your email address & I can forward them .

We stayed at the Baan Samui in 04,05,06 and May 08. In the two years since we last stayed, there have been quite a few changes. The breakfast previously was served at the beach restaurant, a lovely outlook with a breeze and really nice atmosphere. It is now served in an area that is opposite the reception, I think it used to be a reading/library area. It is both indoor and outdoor, but has a view of nothing. We were there for 20 nights and the only thing that changed was the 'daily vegetable' on the breakfast buffet. Also it is now a very noisy place. They have a live Elvis band on Monday's, another loud rock band on Tuesaday, Thursday and Saturday and an even louder rock band on Friday. The music starts at 9pm and does not finish until midnight and it is loud. The band performs at the front of the resort on the street, so maybe a room further towards the pool/beach may be quieter.

Two different families had their room broken into and money, cameras etc stolen. These were ground floor rooms and we heard that the housekeeping people had left the balcony door unlocked. Ours was left unlocked quite a few times but we were on the third floor.

myself and my wife have just spent the 1 st 2 weeks of may at the baan samui.this is our 3 rd visit to thailand since feb 2oo5 and our second 2 nd visit to the bann samui first of which was in feb 2005 . we decided to return because we had a great time there before. we could not believe how in three years how poor the hotel had gone . i give my views below

1. we had booked a ground floor room with double bed.
on arrival we got a second floor room with single beds reception said they were fully booked

2. rooms were not maid up until 5 p.m at night when we conplained to the hotel they said we had to complain to the rep so we agreed to meet the rep at the allocated time 15.00 when we went to meet the rep at reception we were told the rep had been a 11.oo eventually we contacted the rep and this problem was sorted. the problem seemed to be becuse of a serious lack of housekeeping staff.

3. key pad on safe jammed reported to reception at 9am i was told somone could not come until 14.00 so i went to the room at 13.45 and there was a note under the door saying they had called at 12.00 eventually the duty manager opened the safe at 15.00.this happened twice during our stay

4 entertainment over 6 nights 2 nights elvis tribute four 4 nights a heavy rock band which was repetitive and loud and playing most nights to 6 people.

5. hotel very expensive 180 bahts for a large beer plus 10 % service charge and 7% vat made a large beer about £3.45.

6. rooms were poorly decorated and in horrible navy, orange, pink walls , beds very hard , and a shower that leaked on the floor. its hard to believe this hotel has gone down so much in three years but then again its under new management and has been taken over by a group called see2sea. in feb 05 i gave this hotel a 5 rating this time iam pushed to give it two.

7 as for the resort of koh samui it has been spoilt by it being built up so much and certain ethenic minorities have taken over the shops. they hassle you until you buy and can become aggressive if you dont . make sure you barter i bought a pair of sun glasses which started off at 1800 baht for 300 baht .

Well on writing this reveiw, we have just booked in at the Baan Samui for the fourth time.
This hotel has not got all the ultra modern facilities as some of the other hotels, but what it makes up for is the relaxed atmosphere of the staff and people who stay at this resort.
We have stayed at very expensive resorts in Asia and found most times staff and guests are very sterile but no at the Baan.
