“Lovely Personal Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 January 2012

Jan 2012...This is our 3rd stop in Chaweng Ko Samui ( Having stayed at both Nora Buri 4*and Chaweng Regent 4*over xmas and new year 2012).. From the moment we stepped into to reception, there was no hussle and buzzle or waiting around. Just a lovely relaxed welcome from reception staff and suprisingly from the general manager, who welcomed us and said any issues we could speak to him directly. Compared to what we paid in the other hotels, i wish i had stayed here for the whole of our duration. Much more personal than the other hotels. Good Points... fab location, right on a lovely beach, what was nice was that as soon as we game down to pool beach area for breakfast.. the gentleman working the beach area as we if we like sunbeds on the beach after breakfast... he set up our sunbeds, table and umbrella with towels and provided us with cold water, i thought this was a lovely personal touch, (unlike the chaweng regent where we had to look for vacant beds and collect them so that we could sit together, there were never any, so on many occasions we sat on chairs by the pool, and you had to pay through the nose for a small bottle of water, in comparison to Thai charges). The restaurant staff, in fact all the staff at Poppies were really lovely... because of the size of the hotel you get to know the staff personally, June our housekeeper was lovely and very helpful for anything we asked. The rooms were nice, but a little dark, but I suppose its traditional thai
furnishings, however, no other complaints.. complimentary water, newspaper, cakes and fruit and WiFi were the other nice personal touches, these little things go along way.... ( no penny pinching here).
The restaurant...well what can i say, the best food and service we had during our whole stay at Koh Samui...Breakfast was not buffet style like the other hotels we stayed in and if you decided to lay in one morning, they served you breakfast until 12 noon, Not 10/10.30am like other hotels. Breakfast again was very personal, it was ordered and cooked fresh and you could order almost anything you wanted, this was included in the room price. Menu and Food for Evening meals were just fab.... and good value for money.
Not so good points... a little away from the chaweng night life... but thats what we enjoyed about this. If you want a quiet location this is the place, as you can still get to the hussle and bussle of chaweng nightlife in 5 mins by taxi, or 15 min walk.
Would definately stay here again and recommend this for couples and family.

Room Tip: All rooms are the same. Detached cottages throughout the garden areas.

My husband, our baby and his parents went to Poppies for a 5 day holiday. It's situated in Lamai Beach which I feel is a lot better than Chaweng as it's less crowded. We always had deck chairs and the beach boys were always on hand to help. The water is calm and my in-laws tell me the sunrise was spectacular thought I never woke early enough to witness it and when I did, it rained.

Poppies is lovely. We has 2 bungalows with traditional Thai design. Each bungalow is nestled into the natural forestry of the area and acts as 'walls'. So you get to have privacy without ugly impersonal brick walls. I love how the hotel was built around the natural habitat.

I was told that the hotel only has one baby cot. Luckily, we were the only ones with a baby at that time. So if you are travellng with a baby and need the cot, please do book it ahead of time. The cot was made of wood and shaky. But the staff were really sweet to bring it over and set it up. Then transfer it to my parents-in-law's room one night when our baby was sleeping with them (as we had to wake early the next day to go diving) and then transfer it back to our room again the next day.

It's lovely that the turn down service at night leaves you a little package which contains a chocolate or cake. On top of that, there's also an inspirational quote. It's small gestures like this that make Poppies so special.

We were there during the rainy season but only got rainfall during a day or 2. When there is rain, there are always umbrellas around to help get around.

The restaurant received great reviews and we were keen to have a sample. Being Asian, I requested the food to be 'how the Thai's would eat it' and not based on the palate of a westerner. And while it was nice, I wouldn't say it was awesome. Maybe because I tend to like food spicier and more local?

At breakfast, if you like yogurt, definitely order the Samui home made yogurt. It's divine.

Our best meal was really Thai seafood at the Chaweng Food market. It's just a few minutes tuk-tuk ride from Poppies.

Many reviews also mentioned that the Poppies GM gave them a warm welcome and was always around to chat with them and find out if they needed anything. Unfortunately we did not experience this warm welcome. But the waitresses at the restaurant made up for it. They were always friendly, chatty and smiling.

Thais in general have great send of hospitality and a love for children. I was not disappointed this trip.

Overall, it was a good stay and it's a lovely hotel to stay in.

Room Tip: Most of the rooms are pretty good as they are surrounded by lush greenery which gives a lot of priva...

Three of us went to Poppies for lunch whilst we were staying at Chaweng Beach. The food was excellent and the fruit juices hugh. It is a lovely setting right on the beach with very attentive staff. One of our party expecially like his beer in its own ice bucket to keep it cold.

This was our 3rd trip to the hotel in the last 12 years, and it is still one of the best hotels on the island. The setting is so tranquil surrounded by beautiful gardens, the staff cater for your every need, and the food is to die for. We stayed for Xmas and New Year and without a doubt there is no better place to be on New Years eve then on the beach at Poppies, this will go down as the best New Year in my 54 years!!. Thank you everyone for the most memorable time, you made us so welcome, we will be back again.

We arrived to Poppies after a week on Koh Phangan and Rasananda.
Was greeted with an orchid necklace, cold scented towel and a cool drink then showed around the property.

When you enter from street you come aware how peaceful it is inside. The resort looks really cosy with the cottages and beatyful garden.

Our cottage was facing a stonewall so view from the terrace was ugly and no view. It felt a bit dated also, though the bathroom was newly renovated. Good amenities. Staff always left a cookie at turndown. Newspaper in the afternoon.

Breakfast was a la carte, with good choices.
The restaurant is good ,we ate here most nights. You also get a cold scented towel when finished. Also good location by the beach.

Great service by the beach and water served regular. Poppies beach was perfect , clean and well kept. Just dont look at the sides, the neighbours wasnt that meticulous.

Poopies staff are outstanding as regards service overall. And the small details makes this place special.

To bad about its location, Chaweng is a bit tacky ,we did not like. If this hotel had another location we would go back in a minute.

We booked our holiday at this lovely haven on the referral of a friend! We were met by VERY friendly and helpfull staff, the manager John welcomed us personally and took us to our lovely little cottage. We had fresh fruit every morning, cocktail parties and great meals. This place is located right on the beach! Very quiet and peacefull and the massages was amazing. Would definitely return to this beautiful resort. Thank you to ALL the staff.

We have just enjoyed our seventh return stay at Poppies and would like to thank John, the GM and his team of dedicated and wonderful staff for once again welcoming us "home" and making our stay so memorable and enjoyable.
It always amazes us the warmth and friendship portrayed to us by the management team and staff and the excellent level of service the staff give to all their guests to make their stay one to remember.
From previous visits we have made many friends not only the gorgeous staff but we have formed many friendships with other return guests from all over the world.
This we cherish.
Poppies is a hidden oasis situated near the southern and quieter area of Chewang Beach. As we step into the resort we experience a tranquil and serene feeling as we wonder through the beautiful gardens, past peaceful water falls, lovely fish ponds and authentic Thai cottages set privately amidst the beautiful gardens. We experience a feeling of "coming home" and thoroughly enjoy embracing our extended family.
A STAY AT POPPIES CANNOT BE FULLY EXPLAINED, IT HAS TO BE EXPERIENCED!!
Once again manys thanks to "The Poppies Team".
