“A Gem In Samui's Pearl Necklace !!”
Reviewed 9 January 2011

Coral Bay is a nice cozy lace at one end of Chaweng Beach (15 minute walk , 5 minute Songtau ride ...50 baht per person) - large rooms , wonderful sea facing and view balconies woith relaxing chairs ....the rooms are quie nice ...(we had 101 about 10 metres or 20 steps to the beach !!)
Samui is just wonderful and Coral Bay - with its excellent location , good breakfast and wonderful privacy is a fitting place to relax in Samui.
We spend 5 days here , and with we had stayed 2 weeks or more ....Anthong National Park , Namuag waterfalls , the wonderful five islands from Taling Nigam Beach ...all of it is just fabulous. Phuket is a distant poor cousing to Samui - quite frankly.
One samll reccomendation to the staff at Coral Bay - do smile a little more !!

The resort is situated in a beautiful tropical garden. Bungalows and common spaces are very nicely decorated, with a personal touch. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Location is in a nice spot, not in the busiest area of the island, but close enough to good restaurants on Chaweng Beach. One dinner at the hotel restaurant and a 30 minutes massage session was complimentary. All in all a fantastic experience.

That was our 6th travel in Thailand and the 3rd in Koh Samui and I think we really found something very special with The Coral Bay Resort : a really nice resort, especially for family; friendly, cosy, beautiful, natural, just paradise !!!
The Resort is in the middle of the jungle with trees and beautiful gardens, the room we had (deluxe family bungalow) was very spacious (82 m2) with a room for the parents and a room for the kids, and a bathroom in the middle. The room service every day was very good and the bungalow all in the wood (inside and outside) : the best we had until now in Thailand ! The swimming pool is not so big, but big enough and we had always a sit at any time of the day, the beach is perhaps not the best on the island, but wild and clean, and the breakfast not huge, but you could find a bit of everything for anyone and fresh fruits. This is not a "big" hotel with "all" the services you can find in a 4or5* hotel, but you feel so good in this resort and the people working there try to do the best for you in a really Thai style and relaxing atmosphere! The dishes served in the restaurant are all delicious and prices not too expensive; just near the restaurant you have a little cosy "outdoor" room with view on the beach where you can read quietly a book or just have some cocktails. What else ? We had a really good experience with this hotel and it's the perfect place to have a perfect holiday in Samui! We sure come back ...

Booked Coral Bay for a 2 week vacation of sun, sea, sand and fun and were not disappointed. Set in lush tropical gardens, lovely bungalows, sounds and smells. Beautifully decorated bungalows with huge bathrooms, plunge shower, airco, tv/dvd, ventilator on the (again huge) patio, deckchairs and (nice touch) umbrellas which we didn't need although I gather it can rain pretty hard. Lovely clean, cool spa, seafront loungers and beachbar. Here too, the staff are very friendly and helpful and always cheerful. Breakfast selection is limited but having said that we never once missed anything. the regular selection of delicious fresh fruit, cereals, yogurt, pastries and a chef for your eggs and omelets.

Bit away from the busy chaweng road but more than enough taxis and jeepie-thingies to het you to town and back for next to nothing. across the road mini-marts, atms and an amazing robot factory! Would we go back? Yes! waking in the morning to the sounds of birds and animals and smells from the plants and trees, what more could you want?

If The Thai GM lady cannot take good care of her own people, how can she provide good service to customers. We have bad experience over all the whole time stay there.
They should change to the new GM who love to do the service job, not just to get by day by day and get pay big bucks.

Getting to Coral Bay was simple enough with a free drop-off courtesy of Lomprayah (Highly recommended).
I’ll start off with the pros:
Decent breakfast.
Nice bungalow (though design issue with no door to toilet and in full view from in front of cupboards? Also beds are very hard)
Nice restaurant, very good food as per complimentary dinner.
Free 30 minute massage was enjoyable.
Cons:
The reception dude, wasn’t the friendliest chap I’ve ever encountered and only seemed to crack a smile when we left, though the other staff were pretty good.
Resort generally a bit dated and run down, not that similar to internet pics! (maybe 10 years ago).
Most importantly, I was expecting a better beach, being one of the main reasons for going to Samui.
The beach is not very good at all, in terms of width, sand quality. Sun loungers look like they’ve seen better days. Also if you find coral at “Coral bay” let me know, as I only saw rocks.
If you’re looking for nice beaches, the only nice beach we found on the island after scouting the entire thing via scooter was Thongthakian beach, stay there and hire a scooter.
Rather skip Samui and go to Koh Tao, or Koh Phangan.
Chaweng is really not worth staying nearby, very very busy with lots of stalls selling the same crap with the beach also not great.
Samui on the whole is not that great of an island and is extremely touristy, glad we saw it though we won’t be back.

We chose Coral Bay Resort after a lot of research including reviews on Trip Adviser. Our choice certainly did not disappoint. My family and I stayed in a family deluxe bungalow in a beautiful and private tropical garden setting at the back of the resort. We loved living for 10 nights admist the tropical scents and the sound of bird life, even seeing the occasional squirrel scurrying up a tree during our walks. The rooms were very spacious and clean. We found the staff extremely helpful and accommodating. Peter, the front desk manager went to great lengths to ensure our stay went smoothly and went out of his way to fulfil all of our requests. There is a wonderful health spa at the resort which provides massages and beauty treatments and we attended several times. This spa is better than any that I have been to in Australia because of the extra touches such as the herbal teas. We all received a free 1/2 hour 'jet lag' massage on arrival. The pool was extremely clean and we certainly did not find the size of the pool to be a problem.

We did not walk into Chaweng shopping area because it was too far in the heat with the children but could get a taxi for 200 bht each way or a open vehicle with bench seating for 50 bht per person. There is a fabulous restaurant called Dusk which is just walking distance from the resort with Thai meals starting at just 100 bht. The meals at Coral Bay are also very reasonable and of very good quality.

We enjoyed this resort so much because we were looking for a quiet resort in a natural setting within a budget. This resort is good value for money.
