“Dissapointed”
Reviewed 18 June 2013

We stayed at Banana Fan Sea in April 2013 with my sister and her family and after reading all the great reviews were looking forward to our holiday. This was the 4th time we had been to Koh Samui over 7 years and this was our most disapointing trip yet. We organised airport pickup through the hotel and paid the higher price only to be picked up by a van that had disco lights and stickers on it that had sexual favour stickers on it and the whole journey the driver played pitbull dance music at full pelt with strobe lights on. We were travelling with 3 VERY tired kids aged 2, 4 and 9 and our flight arrived at 10pm at night. HORRIBLE, what a start and it didn't get better.
On arrival we were rushed to our room as the kids were tired and upset after the car ride. We had booked the beachfront villa (most expensive with private spa directly on the beach) and when we opened the door we were horrified. it was DIRTY, floor covered in sand, the daybed for our 2yr old was NOT made up into a bed for her and again had sand all over it. The bathroom had hair in the bath and the toilettries were either half used or empty. We were also told we had missed the room service cut off by 10 mins and couldn't get anything to eat. we explained that we had the kids couldn't leave the room as they were tired etc and we hadn't eaten but nope not willing to help us out in any way.
Basically the hotel caters for the european market and the staff are super friendly to the older well off euro's who stay and they are lavished with attention (we saw many staff being given big tips by them) We often had to seat ourselves at the restaurant and at breakfast we would have to chase down a staff member to get us a coffee. The breakfast is possibly the worst I have ever had in any hotel in asia and i often went without. it was so hot and covered in flies and not appetising at all. in fact on day 3 we went to Khao San bakery for eggs and bacon for brekky as we couldn't eat at Baitong another day.
Unfortunatley when we were there there was an 'unexpected storm' that hit Chaweng for 4 out of the 5 days we went and the beach was closed most of the time. The saving grace for this property is It is on the best part of chaweng beach and the location is beautiful. We ate lunch most days at the hotel restaurant and the green curry chicken was the best i have ever had in Thailand and we could not complain about the dinners either, very cheap and delicious. shame the breakfast lets it down.
We went out during one of the rainy days to go bowling with the kids and we were dropped off by the hotel (paid a high price) and we said we needed picking up for our return journey as there were 7 of us with 3 kids and it was Songkran and quite busy and no taxi's on the road. They said yes of course call when you are ready and pay when we pick you up. After bowling (15 min car ride from hotel) we called the hotel for collection only to be told no we can't we are busy. We advised we had pre organised it and they said the vans were 'all out at the airport' and they hung up. We waited on the road (getting absolutely soaked by water festival locals) for over 30 mins but no taxis. my 2yr old and my sisters little 4yr old were getting very upset but the water guns being blasted in their faces so we called the hotel again only to be told 'no vans' and they hung up. We started walking (with prams dripping wet, baby bag wet, phones and i pad wet) but it was too dangerous so called again and we explained we were despertate... Nope sorry we are all busy the vans are 'out still'. we gave them our number and said please call when they are back and we will wait and tell you where to collect us. they said sure and hung up.
We ended up walking to the hospital down the road from the bowling for refuge and they helped order us a van and we eventually got back to the hotel. When we arrived at the hotel all the vans were parked there and all the staff were there also..... dodgy and very unhelpful. the kids were so upset.
We were glad to leave and after so many amazing stays in Samui this has tarnished our views. The cleaning of the room was also terrible and often wasn't cleaned and at 4pm in the afternoon we would have to call to clean. Food trays etc were left outside on the verandah table for days without collection leading to cats and bugs and lizards feasting on our leftovers. really dissapointing. On our previous trips we have stayed in 2 star huts to 5 star villa's and this was the worst. Sorry, i have to be honest.

Have recently returned from our second stay at Banana Fan having stayed here in May 2012. The resort is located on the best part of Chaweng Beach and the swimming directly in the front of the hotel is great. It is only approx a 10 minute walk to the centre of Chaweng shopping area and you can either walk along the road or beach .
. We found the rooms very spacious and they were serviced twice a day and always left spotless. There is a great pool and plenty of seating around it as well as chairs set up on beach. The restaraunt is situated next to the pool and has views over the beach. We found the food great and very reasonably priced (see separate review Baitong restaraunt).

What makes this resort stand out from others is the exceptional staff. The friendless of the whole team is unbelievably and they certainly all go out of there way to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. They are very lead by the manager Supit and front office manager Mas who lead by example and set the pace. There is not many resorts you go to where the manager tries to talk to as many guests as possible each day. If here has time he will even sit down with you and have a diet coke. (the diet coke comes in a brown bottle with a Signha sticker)

To Supit and Mas you can be very proud of your staff and you have a great team. You made us feel so welcome and from the pickup from airport until our departure we had a great time. we arrived as guests but left as long term friends.

Keep up the good work and may the sales of diet coke keep increasing at Banana Fan

I have been to Banana Fan Sea in Koh Samui several times and each time the hotel has met and exceeded my expectations. The location in Chaweng is excellent - very central to walk either way on the beach road so close to many restaurants and shopping experiences. The rooms are well laid out around the pool and front the beach. This is one of the best things about the hotel in that the beach is right there for one to enjoy at any time without effort. The staff are very friendly and service orientated. The front house manager is there to assist with guest queries and make recommendations which is good. A very good choice.

Room Tip: Choose the deluxe rooms which are closer to the pool and beach but depending on budget, any room sho...

Our third stay at the Banana fan Sea Resort was as good as ever. Supit, Juthamas and all the staff made us feel so welcome, and could not do enough for us. The rooms were spacious and clean, the pool beautiful (with the staff accommodating our every need there),the breakfast fantastic, and the location on the beach amazing.
We left feeling very relaxed, and hope to get back there when possible.

Just got back from Koh Samui with 5 days spent at Banana Fan Sea Resort. Brilliant staff, food to die for, beautifull location on Chaweng beach, we stayed in a beach front villa and the view from our window was incredible. Will be going back next year.

I stayed at Banana Fan Sea in April with my wife and two daughters aged 12 and 2. I am always a bit skeptical of a resort but this place didn't feel like one. The villas closer to the beach are definitely the best ones. Staff were very friendly and always helpful. Location is great because it is not right in the mess of the Chaweng bars and night clubs but close enough to walk. I would have no hesitation recommending this place.
