“Beautiful Resort”
Reviewed 15 April 2009

Here's my simplified resort report;

The good; Resort is in a good location on Chaweng beach, fairly good breakfasts, the bunglaws were nice and clean, the grounds were well kept, quiet at night, the staff were friendly.

The bad; I needed to visit a doctor for a sore throat and the staff weren't helpful at all, they had no idea if there were clinics close by or even existed, so I ended up going to the hospital to visit a doctor. During my vacation I stayed in 6 different hotels/resorts and this was the only one charging for internet access. For the price being paid for accododations, this should be free. I think it's time this resort joined the 21st century!!

Overall, I would recommend this resort.

I was shocked to find that there were no negative reviews for this resort.
A friend and I stayed here for 2 nights based on the reviews posted on Trip Advisor. We moved out of another stunning resort on Bo Phut Beach so we could have a change of scenery and check out the hustle and bustle of Chaweng Beach. ...A big mistake! Not only was our accomodation at the Banana Fan Sea 2000 Baht more per night than at our previous (much nicer) resort, but it was very old and dated. Considering the cost (5200 Baht per night) we were expecting truly wonderful accommodation and amenities. Instead, we had a 3-star experience on every level (except maybe the service which was usually quite good).

Although clean, the resort has certainly seen better days. It had a very 80's feel to it. The food, although we only had breakfast there, felt like a bad Howard Johnson buffet in small town America. The rooms were done on the cheap, and even the beach chairs were white plastic covered with old and often musty beach mats. The surroundings were not much better. We were shocked to see how tired, tacky and dirty Chaweng Beach was. My walk from one end of the beach to the other revealed bottles of cortozone cream, a condom, and old clothing washed up onto the beach from the tides. The Chaweng Beach Road strip (where the hotel is located) is loud, lined with neon lights and pushy vendors who all seem desperate to have you fitted for a suit in one of their fabric shops.

All in all, I think it would be a big disappointment for someone to come to this resort and feel as though they had paricipated in a true Koh Samui experience. This place feels big, overpriced and has seen far better days. In fact, I would advise against staying in Chaweng altogether. There are many other parts to the island which are sheltered and isolated from the commercial tackiness of Chaweng. It's ok for a day/night trip, and more than adequate if you are looking to party or hook up. ...But beyond that, I'd recommend looking into Lamai or Bo Phut.

Don't waste your money. You can do much better than this.

We booked 3 rooms for 5 nights and found the hotel delightful. The staff could not have been more helpful - real Thai friendliness. The rooms are not huge but they are perfectly adequate, clean and provide all the required amenities. Breakfast was great and they did have some different selections every day. We had one dinner at the restuarant and really enjoyed it.
The restaurant and pool area directly overlook the nice sandy beach so you can not get any closer to the sea than this. The hotel is very convenient for all the activities of Chaweng, and at the same time you are secluded from the noise and the bustle of the resort. The layout of the resort is very nice with lush tropical vegetation and they do look after it very well.

We stayed for 9 nights at this wonderful hotel. Our son was getting married and 26 of the wedding guests from both Australia and UK stayed here although the wedding itself was at another hotel. The staff really excel at this hotel from when we first made our reservations to the wonderful post wedding lunch that was held here. The hotel is pleasant and the rooms are serviced twice a day which is quite unusual for its class. The rooms were nice and were in a garden setting so there were no 'views' but still very pleasant. The bed was a bit too firm for my liking but that was minor. Our whole visit was great and we enjoyed everything but the hotel's greatest strength is its staff - I cannot praise them enough. Each one of them just went that extra yard to ensure every need was met. The post wedding lunch was just like another reception - flowers decorated the area and the staff were dressed quite formally. The efforts were really appreciated.

What's in a name? I'm not really sure what Banana Fan Sea Resort means but don't let it worry you. This hotel is located right in the middle of Chaweng Beach and has a nice pool near the water and private chairs on the beach that are never crowded. The resort grounds have beautiful gardens and the restaurant has good breakky.

Even better food is found right next door at a beach side restaurant called Eat Sense. We ate here twice because of the great food, fantastic location, and relaxed atmosphere. Outside of the resort is a road that is lined with shops, coffee, and tons of restaurants. No need to rent a moto unless you want to sightsee the island.

Even if you want to go to the Full Moon on Phangan you only have to walk 100 feet down the beach for the speedboat pick-up.

We stayed here for 6 nights at the beginning of the New Year.

There was 4 of us and we booked the poolside villa - room 206 and 207. This has to be my FAVOURITE hotel in Samui. The rooms are gorgeous, the service is second to none, the location is perfect and the place is just unforgettable!

Room 207 (i think) is slightly larger than the other. The rooms are joined by a lockable door, each with it's own bathroom. The beds are super comfy and the rooms are decorated in a warm, thai influenced style. It was nice to be able to pull up all the blinds and obtain uninterrupted views of the pool and the lush gardens.

We organised a transfer through the hotel from the airport which is a bargain at 200 baht per person. It was nice to escape the heat in a nice air conditioned car!

The staff at Banana Fan Sea resort need a worthy mention. They are absolutely fantastic! They are helpful, friendly and very attentive. They always remember your name, what room you're staying in and even got me a cake for my birthday at no extra charge!!! The staff at the restaurant are great too, it's lovely to start the day with a smile and a yummy breakfast buffet.

The resort has direct access to Chaweng Beach and has many beach chairs laid out for guests to use. These do seem to get reserved early in the morning though, so you do have to be quick.

The lady at guest services was a godsend and only too happy to answer the many questions we had. Rearranging our speed boat transfers to the full moon party a few times was no big deal and it was so easy to book a jeep for the day and drive around the island.

We absolutely loved our stay at Banana Fan Sea Resort! It was the highlight of my 3 week Thailand trip. When we return to Samui, we will definately be returning to this resort. 10 out of 10!!!

  • Liked — Everything!
  • Disliked — The hot water wasn't hot enough for me, but i like it boiling!
