We visited here for our anniversary. The staff was very pleasant, always helpful, and so very polite. We had a villa with a private pool, but always found ourselves at the beach! The room was always spotlessly clean, and just beautiful. We liked that the beach was a short ride to town (5 minutes)- it seemed to be quieter for those who don't visit the clubs as frequently. The pool was also very clean, and the grounds were amazing. The staff also assisted us in booking a private car to tour the island for a full day, and recommended great restaurants in town (go to the Library!!!). The private car was the BEST way to see all of Koh Samui, and only cost about $60. We will most definitely go back to Nora Beach the next chance we get!!

what a gorgeous resort, we had an ocean villa and it was beautiful and spacious the bathroom was bigger than most hotel rooms. your own private shower outside and a bath overlooking your little front garden was great. the view was superb. we had friends stay in the normal hotel buildings and these were very lovely as well. the ocean pool villas were magical, but with two young kids decided to stick with the ocean villa as pool had no fence and plus they were little on the beach.
the meals at this hotel, BBQ and seafood night were something else. some of the best food we had in thailand.
the beach was great, there are nicer ones in koh samui, but your little private beach was great and it is still picture perfect, water so clear could see the fish swimming around.
i thing must mention is it is a very ""honeymoon"" destination. felt a little out of place being there with extended family, although they do cater very well for children, and the staff would often watch the kids and play with them while we enjoyed dinner.
really was paradise.

We stayed at this hotel in August of this year for 8 nights. I booked everthigng seperately to get a much better price than a package. I booked the hotel through asia rooms and got a very good price for b&b. I spent ages and I mean ages looking for the best place to go and reading endless reviews. I booked our flight to thailand through Hoodaki which we had no hassle with and our transfer flight to Koh Samui with Expedia. Everything went smoothly with no hassles. Upon arrival to Bangkok airport (we flew with Thai air) we went straight through with ease to new departures and our luggage was transferred for us. There was a complimentary lounge with food, drink and internet use courtesy of bangkok air while we were waiting for our transfer to Koh Samui. Upon arrival to Koh Samui airport we had organised a taxi with the hotel but there are always plent of taxis around about 200 bhat cheaper than if you book with hotel.
Upon arrival to hotel, we were greated with a drink and cold flannels, shown to our room and it was a very pleasant welcome. The room was faultless, clean, tidy with everything you needed. We had said it was our honeymoon but unfortunatley did not get upgraded as have we read from other reviews but the room was more than good enough. There was a hill to the pool followed by steps to the pool and beach, hard work at the beginning of the holiday coming back up but by the end of the week it had done us good! There were the odd buggy going up to give you a lift but you really cant rely on them as we only had one passing and gave us a lift in the week. Breakfast was amazing, loads to chose from (and Im a fussy eater). The pool was lovely and clean. There was music in the pool area but we did not find this a problem as have many other people, it really was not loud or techno. We ate in the resturant on the night we arrive, the food was lovely but a little overprice and not a huge selection so we chose to eat out most of the time. The beach was not great but not as bad as some have made out, just a little gritty and not pure white sand. We did walk round to chaweng beach along the beach and this is truly amazing. We went into Chaweng most days and I felt comfortable and at ease with the locals, not itimadated at all. The only thing that was very annoyeing was the persistent taylors - you just have to ignore them, as soon as you speak to them, they wont let you go! There are so many lovely places to eat here but our favourite was Chaweng seafood, truly amazing with the biggest menu I've ever seen and very cheap. We visited Big Budda, did a couple of trips around the island in a taxi for about £20 which was worth doing. We went Elephant trekking which was an amazing experience but not as graceful as it looks!! The staff and locals were so friendly and made you feel very welcome, I would recommend this hotel to anyone and would certainly return *****

Stayed at Nora beach for 12 nights and enjoyed it as it was a perfect place to chill. No noisy complaining Brits or demanding Americans. Did not eat there because we thought it was too expensive as were the drinks when not in Happy hour. The pool bar food was over priced but I think this was down to the poor exchange rate, As for Chewang, very hot but found some great eateries ie Chillis and some of the beach restaurants which served the best fish in the world! Will go back to Sumui but perhaps a different place, perhaps the nicest people (the Thias) we have ever met

Spent the last week of September at this resort and found it to be an excellent place for a relaxing holiday. Unlike some previous reviews our room was cleaned promptly each day, the staff at the pool were ever friendly and obliging and the accommodation was clean, comfortable and met our needs. ( We regularly stay at 5 star resorts and on a value basis for the money we paid to stay here the value was very good). On our last trip to Thailand we stayed at the Sheraton La Grande at Phuket and although we were happy with that resort we were just as happy with Nora Resort at a lot less cost.

I agree that for dinner the restaurant is poorly attended and although the food is adequate it could be improved. Breakfast was very good and we found the breakfast staff quick (and happy) to respond to any requests.

We did not find the taxis expensive costing us 200 baht into town (around $7.50 AUD) at the time we were there. Where we live on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland a similar journey is $15.00 AUD. So I am puzzled by a previous reviewers reference that the Samui taxis were dearer than Australian taxis.

Foot massage an hour for 200 baht is also a bargain as are the restuarant prices. Rice Restaurant was the standout for us. Try their lemon sorbet with vodka and prosecco for a dessert like no other.

We loved Samui and will definitely be back again

Ok, let's start from the top...

Only 10 minutes from the airport is definitely a bonus, not that you'd know it once you're at the hotel in terms of noise. The reception is nice and well organised. Things start getting ropey from here though. We were staying in a Nora Villa and on the walk down to ours I couldn't help noticing the poor state of the exterior paintwork of all the villas we passed. Large patches of damp/mould covering the cream coloured paint.
We were shown into ours and I was pretty disappointed by the size and the gloominess. The jungle effect they go for on the resort seems to serve only to make the place really dark. I'm guessing the size and light aren't an issue in the Ocean Villas or Pool villas, but be warned if you're not in one of these.
Ok, down to the pool. All pretty good, lots of loungers both around the pool and on the adjacent beach and no problems with people reserving. The pool, and pool side decking, again, need repair but it's not a big issue. The food at the beach bar is passable but it's actually better to walk to the restaurant bar and eat from the same menu there as it's far more civilised.
Pool side service is not great. Yes, they are super friendly but only if you can get one of them to come over. Invariably there are 4 of them chatting at the bar and no-one doing rounds of the pool to see if anyone needs anything. This was the same every day.
Hardly anyone seemed to use the restaurant in the evening which made it not a great environment to eat at. Food not brilliant either and not cheap.
Breakfasts were a real positive. Loads of choice and of course being sat watching the ocean is never a bad start to the day, Again though, the service was bad, All the waiters had to do was clear tables and dish out tea and coffee but they were unbelievably rubbish at this. All really friendly, but bad at waiting tables.
Used the spa facilities and although could probably find cheaper in town we enjoyed the hotel one.
The hotel is only 5 minutes in an expensive taxi (see below post) from Chaweng where there are 3 or 4 decent restaurants we found (Prego, Rice, Red Snapper). Chaweng, however, was definitely not to our taste. Seedy and sleazy with grotty bars.

We really enjoyed our stay at Nora. We were upgraded on arrival to a huge suite from our Ocean Villa and loved our spacious, colonial style accomodation, complete with a beautiful view of the ocean and great spa bath, bar area, two tvs etc it was great.

The pool area was beautiful, we had no problems getting a lounge and the service at the pool was fantastic. The location was great for us, far enough out of Chaweng yet close enough if we wanted to shop.

Breakfast is quite good, and was inlcuded in the price which was great. We'd definitely stay here again if we came to Koh Samui. The water in Souther Thailand is much more beautiful than the Gulf for those searching for crystal clear waters. For a break from Hong Kong, Koh Samui is perfect. Quick, direct flight and beautiful weather.

Agree that the little touches are lacking - maid service was SLOW, they didn't clean our room until after 4pm most days.

One complaint though, but about Koh Samui rather than Nora, we couldn't get over how expensive taxis were in Koh Samui now or how little the shops wanted to barter. We definitely don't recommend it for shopping. Taxis are more expensive than in Australia, which is RIDICULOUS for Thailand. Bring back the tuk tuk!
