Nora Beach Resort and Spa
Ranked #12 of 104 Hotels in Chaweng

Nora Beach Resort and Spa is clean, beautiful, and well-run. Service is friendly, attentive, helpful and organized (though they forgot to clean our room one day. Called the operator and it was cleaned in less than 45mins.) Our garden villa was spacious and comfortable, accented with some Thai details. The pool is beautiful, but the beach is shallow, full of coral/seaweed and without waves. Breakfast was fine but the poolside food was disappointing. We did not eat in the restaurant.
We chose to stay on Chaweng and at Nora because that's what we read was the best. We were also interested in restaurant and nightlife in the downtown area. Downtown Chaweng is still a 300 Baht taxi ride from Nora, and a total tourist disaster. Nora, while a nice and solid 4-star resort, was lackluster and nothing we Americans couldn't get at just about any resort in the Caribbean. If you're looking for good restaurants and a quainter, more authentic experience, stay closer to Fisherman's Village on Boh Phut.

I stayed at Nora (Vila) for 6 days and wanted to recomend it so you will enjoy too. Great location - not too far from Chaweng (10 minuted by tuktuk, 50 bat per person), great, clean beach, wondeful pool, wanderful fruit shakes! had very good expirience with room service, very helpfull staff, great breakfast, and the best SPA in Thailand - don't miss Samui Treatment (3 hours in heaven).
Hotels extras (food and drinks) were not expensive and we also booked all trips and even the Ferry to Phangan throght the front desk.

We were very fortunate to have our daughter's wedding at the Nora Beach Resort & Spa on the 8th of August. Approximately 56 family and friends were able to attend. We all expected a lovely wedding and a great holiday, but were literally blown away by the beauty and expertise that The Nora, Mr Loi (the wedding planner) and all the staff presented us with. Words cannot describe how much all these wonderful people put in to making this the most memorable of weddings anyone of us has ever attended. As Mother and Father of the bride we still can not believe how wonderful it was and how the experience will stay with us all forever. So, if anyone is looking for a romantic, beautiful and very affordable wedding with no stress but lots of wonderful memories talk to Mr Loi at the Nora and we guarantee you will never be disappointed.

We recently travelled to Koh Samui, Nora Beach Resort to get married and holiday with friends and family.

I cannot put into words the experience that the staff, especially the wedding planner and GM Mr Lloyd, gave us. Everything was above our expectations. The wedding was amazing, the scenery so beautiful, the organisation and planning was out of this world! Us and our guests (60ppl) were treated as VIPs for the entire stay.. and we stayed a long time, nearly three weeks! Every little thing was taken care of, after one quick meeting and a one hour rehearsal on the friday, I truly did not expect such a beautiful wedding. I had a vision of a simple beach wedding.. but it was so much more. The food was divine, and the drinks flowed alll night. The staff, are so fantastic! I cannot thank them enough for their impeccable service.

We stayed in a beach view villa which was spacious and looked exactly as the photos on the Nora website. The beach is slightly secluded from the main strip, so it is quiet and relaxing. The atmosphere at the pool bar and Blue Bar was really friendly and welcoming. We are planning on returning next August and there is no choice for us we will stay at the Nora Beach Resort again.

We stayed here for a few nights in August 2009 and had high expectations with the high ranking on Trip Advisor. We were seriously disappointed. Immediately after checking in, we found a large salamander in our room and had to fight to get a new room. In our second room, we also found serious bug problems. The staff was not very understanding and not very helpful.

After searching for weeks on Tripadvisor and talking with our agent, Nora Beach Resort and Spa seemed to have nice reviews. We were between Amari Hotel and this one. We stayed there for six days. Though Nora Beach Resort & Spa was more expensive than Amari and was not on our agent's list, we went along with their website information. The front entrance and the lobby were disappointing as they are in desperate need of remodeling and redecorating and do not look like the website pictures. We preferred to stay in a private villa with private front garden entrance than in a hotel room. The villa had beautiful wood floors, large bathroom with shower and bath tub and extra amenities like daily change of toothbrush, toothpaste and detergent. Be sure to take your own shampoo and conditioner as what they have are actually bad for hair. Walking from the main lobby towards the villas, the pool and the beach you find yourself amongst tropical gardens with exotic trees and flowers that give you the feeling that you are in a safe tropical jungle. We actually had banana trees with bananas, birds of paradise and other tropical plants surrounding our veranda balcony. The villas are large enough but attention is not really given to the overall cleaning of the hotel. Also, the furniture and curtains seem to be very old and run down and though they looked absolutely wonderful on the website, they are different in reality. The pool which looks huge on the website is much smaller and dirty without a lifeguard. It is full of sand from the beach as the hotel is not strict on shower regulations and there seems to be no cleaning of the pool. The shower on the beach was actually broken for a whole day. Also, the hotel does not do anything when people are being very loud playing games and you need to complain to them in person. So depending on which families are around the pool, you might or you might not have a relaxing day. The beach is very quiet and reclusive like its gardens. The sea water though is very dirty as you can actually see the disposals of all the hotels bathrooms floating in the water at specific times of the day and you can smell them too. The sewing system of the hotel is problematic and two nights we woke up from the terrible smell.
We only had one dinner at the hotel's restaurant and were not impressed. Thus, we discovered the best Italian restaurant ever called Prego and is located in Amari Hotel. We had dinner there every night and the meals tasted better than the meals we had in previous visits to Italy!! The breakfast at the hotel was ok but flies were all around the food along with numerous ants on the tables.
I would go back to Koh Samui but I would try out Amari Hotel as Nora Beach Resort and Spa is not clean and overpriced for what it offers. It charges rates of Le Meridien and hotels of the five star line, but is away from that. The hotel shuttle offers rides to the main tourist area which looks and smells a lot like Patong in Phuket so it is better to visit and stay at the beginning of Chaweng Beach near Nora and Amari. There are other areas with nice hotels but are very far away and not in very nice locations. For example DAvid Beckham owns a house on the island on a mountain and near a nice beach but the surrounding area is not nice. Also, we walked on the beach of our hotel (be sure to wear sandals as you need to walk in the water which is full of beautiful yet sharp corals) and we were in the middle of Chaweng Beach in a post card location. Kilometers of white sand and light blue water, small islands that you can actually walk to, but you will not be able to swim as the water is only up to your knee the deepest.
We booked two excursions from the hotel's front desk and they seem to support an agency called Great Sea Tours or something similar and my advise it to choose for an excursion to the islands from any other company. They seem to only care about the money they make on the bookings and offer the least possible. Snorkeling was in only one small location and you spend most of the time on several beaches tanning, which you might as well do at your hotel. The "restaurant" they take you to is a beach and the boat crew has pre-prepared spaghetti in plastic containers. So, if you stay at Nora, do not go with their suggested company.

Have just returned from a perfect holiday in Thailand. Spent 11 nights in the Nora Beach and had fantastic and friendly service throughout. The location is great with easy and cheap access to Chaweng whilst sitting within a quiet and idyllic bay to the north of the main Chaweng Bay. Close to the airport but no noise from the aircraft- must have flight path away from this area. Service excellent throughout our stay in all areas of the complex.
The clientelle were from all over the world which created a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere with no one group dominating the hotel. Food great. Well worth going to the cabaret evening.
