Having spent a near perfect two weeks I Phuket 6 years ago I was almost scared to return to Thailand in case it did not live up to our expectations, we need not have worried. This time we travelled with our two teenage daughters so it was slightly different experience. The hotel on arrival really wowed our girls, the lobby area is impressive and as you look through the view of the gardens and beach are certainly a great first impression. Without exception the staff at this hotel live up to the land of smiles reputation, they are friendly and helpful. There is good access to all levels of management who are friendly and happy to engage in conversation and keen to know that you are enjoying your stay. The managers cocktail party that we were invited to on the beach cemented this even further, having travelled extensively I have never experienced this at such an informal and pleasant level. The sea breeze bar was the perfect end to every day with happy hour, the staff in here were particularly lovely remembering our choice of beverages even the fact that mine rotated between three options! We ate Thai food here twice too and that was lovely. The restaurants were pretty good value considering the 5 star status, we found the whole of Samui to be a lot more expensive than when we visited before, the days of a good meal for 10.00 are well and truly passed. The restaurants along chaweng road were not a lot cheaper than the hotel on some cases and nowhere near as nice. It was a bit odd that the Brazilian restaurant attached to the hotel was along the road, it was nice in there, the BBQ buffet was good, but expensive if like us you have a 12 year old that does not eat much but had to pay full price for eat as much as you like, about 20.00 per head. That would be one of the only bad points, the hotel in the evening lacked atmosphere, all the themed events were fixed price menus which would not have worked for us with one slightly fussy child with a small Appetite. At 12 she seemed to be expected to pay as an adult on everything even though it was advertised as up to 12. The beach is perfect, the sea clean, warm with soft white sand. Hawkers are kept at bay by subtle security men, the few that are there are good natured and fun and do not pester once you say a polite no. The lovely boy and his son selling drinks , fruit and corn everyday cheaply was lovely and also remembered every One greeting them on arrival with a cheery hello. Beds were plentiful and the hotel staff were happy to round them up for you and position as required. The pool was lovely very shaded and unusual, nice swim up bar never too busy. The gardens were beautifully kept and very pretty. Someone commented earlier on the cats, have to say I didn't like that either there did seem to be rather a lot of them! Mossies were a problem, my daughter got a particularly nasty bite that I was worried might get infected, I was shocked that the hotel did not have any medical centre or basic first aid facility. They cannot be blamed for the Mosquitos though just take plenty of cream and repellent. We asked for and got adjoining rooms, they were not of the same standard that we enjoyed in our 4 star Phuket hotel, they were very dark and in need of a refurb. They were however clean and comfortable just not luxurious. I also think that wi fi should be free in five star. We were also disappointed that the tennis was offsite across the not so nice end of chaweng road, we did not venture over. Massage on the beach definitely worth a go, fairly brutal so be sure to explain your preference for strong or medium. There were two weddings held at the hotel during our stay, both were lovely and appeared to be well organised with some lovely touches, if you are considering this option i would say definitely worth contacting them. We also booked a trip elephant trekking which was an amazing experience and great fun. Our collection time on our last day was 19.45, the hotel arranged a room for us for the last day and late check out we did have to pay a small charge for this. All in all we return home today sad to leave and having had a fantastic thoroughly enjoyable and memorable holiday.

Spent 10 days at the hotel and were some what hesitant due to recent reviews on trip advisor, however found them unfounded.
The restaurant food was very good and slightly more expensive than some of the restaurants out on the street. Drinks are priced commensurate with a 5 star hotel but it does not mean you can't afford to eat or drink in the hotel.
Rooms are clean and tidy as is the hotel in general. Staff are very friendly and helpful with problems, if any sorted straight away or within a few hours. As with any hotel sun beds are taken early, but pool staff will always assist in finding you free ones.
Kids club a little disappointing with no one to sign children into the ezone or other clubs.
Free wifi only available in certain places which is disappointing for a 5 star hotel.
Overall a pleasant stay in a well located hotel. The general manager, Danny, is very approachable and happy to listen to guests as he wants to improve the hotel and its facilities.

We went to Koh Samui for a family wedding. Koh Samui is definitely not a tropical paradise anymore. It reminded me of Fuengirola but with added palm trees and in your face red light action. Not ideal if you are travelling with kids!
The Centara is showing its age. Everything was slightly passed its best but the prices were top drawer. The staff however were lovely as was the beach and pool. But for the money I was expecting much much more.

We stayed in delux sea view interconnecting rooms to attend a wedding on Koh Samui. We chose is hotel as it seemed to have the best reviews for families.
Rooms.
They were nicely appointed, quite spacious and comfortable. The bathrooms however were dated. Our shower leaked through the shower door every time we used it. There was a blind between the shower wisdom and bedroom so if you turned on the bathroom light during the night, the bedroom was illuminated too.
Food.
The food was good, we paid for the club level and had snacks, evening cocktails etc which was good value.
Pool.
The pool was great, however if you didn't arrive at 10am to claim your seat then there was no chance of you sitting near it. There were not enought sun loungers for the amounts of guests.
Beach.
This was gorgeous but again there was a lack of available sun loungers.
Kids Club.
There is a playroom for kids and a few organised activities durning the day. We used this service a few times and it was good value, my kids seem to like it but if you are looking for childcare, this wouldn't be sufficient.
Staff.
All the staff were extremely helpful and kind, they helped us with taxis and trips etc.

All in all, for the money we paid it was very average. There are other places on the island that are much better value for your money, however, it's a great location and the grounds are lovely.

Had and enjoyable stay for a week after a conference in Bankok in a 5 star hotel and were a little disappointed in the size of our room after bangkok. The room also needed updating.Breakfast was good but we expected more Thai food offerings but I expect they catered to a more European clientelle.Range of restaurants was good and we ate at Hagi Japanese for their buffet and it was very good with a nice beach view.

Stayed at this hotel for 5 nights . Family of 5 with three children. We booked two deluxe rooms in the second floor. We picked this hotel because we were looking for a 5 star resort directly on the beach that was somewhat close to Chaweng. When we first arrived we were very happy with the hotel. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and well manicured. The lobby was grand and inviting. The hotel staff were friendly and welcoming. There were plenty of great restaurants and anything else you'd need within walking distance.

Buttttttt……. then we got to the rooms and discovered the poor service.

Booking information is not honored - We booked and confirm "side by side" room as we were with small children. When we checkin late at the evening, after long flight, we discovered that rooms side by side were not booked for us as approved and SIGNED By the hotel during the booking. Only in the next day afternoon, we were transfer to side by side rooms. The hotel didn't apologize or send compensation, as a 5* stars hotel would have done for its own booking mistake.

The room were quiet dark and damp , tired for the price. No free WiFi even so at the price we paid this should be free as in other 5* hotels.

The pool area was great. The beach was nice. but bar staff was totally untrained. The cocktails and macchiato we ordered were poorly prepared. Some, could not be drank.
Breakfast was very basic and low quality produce with many mosquitoes on the food (mainly on the cheese ) and also in the breakfast area. CATS were running through our legs during breakfast . Not suitable for an atmosphere and hygiene terms you expect in a 5* hotel.

Housekeeping was extremely poor. As we were with children we left the room at 9:00am for breakfast followed by pool, hoping our rooms will be arranged and cleaned till we return by 13:30pm. Day by day, even so we hang the sign on the 2 doors indicating that the rooms should be cleaned; we were disappointed they were not cleaned. During all of our 5 days stay, the rooms were cleaned until 14:30-15:00 long after the children are tired and just wanted to sleep…
Check process was unacceptable – we asked for luggage help 30 minutes before our check time. We wanted to make sure we will not miss our booked transfer so Phangan Ferri at 12:30. Starting 12:00pm, and every 5 minutes, we ask the front desk to ask the status of luggage and got the same answer "it on the way". At 12:40 , after we were concerned we will miss our ferri while the driver had waited 10 minutes in the lobby, the finally luggage came in….

Overall there is far better value for money in other resorts. For less then half of what we paid for this hotel we stayed at another hotel which was amazing (see my other reviews at Samui and Phangan).
I am extremely well travelled and I know what is a 5* stars service. Being a large hotel in a great location isn't an excuse for bad service.
We were very disappointed since we expected a service of a 5 Star Resort but we got poor service in all standard.

I left the hotel disappointed overall though for what I expected the service of a 5 Star Resort to offer wasn't at all to standard. Not recommended !
