Reviewed 11 March 2014

We stayed at Centara Grand over New Years Dec 2013, this being our last stop on our Thailand trip. It seems we had saved the best till last - as from the moment we checked in the stay was faultless.

The check in was efficient and we were shown to our villa, with the staff giving a description of facilities as we walked. The villa we had was lovely, very spacious with a private plunge pool, an outdoor area to relax in as well as sofas indoors. We spent some time relaxing in our pool area, as well as the main pool but our favourite was the beach. The main pool is lovely, but the beach is just great as you have the beach vendors, who don't harass you but its nice glancing up from your book once in a while and people watching or glancing out to sea, and going for a long walk along the beach. The beach is a public beach but the beds are reserved for guests.

Breakfast at the hotel was lovely, a good range but probably not the best we have experienced. Service was quick and friendly. We did not eat at the restaurants in the hotel as there were so many others to choose from in Chaweng, we wanted to experience as much as we could.

The location of the hotel was great, right in Chaweng so everything was walking distance. We took the taxis sometimes as we went to Dining on the Rocks (amazing) and 9 gems (not so great) but aside from that we tended to walk and soak up the atmosphere. No matter what time we got back from dinner, we would change into more casual wear and walk all the way up the beach, enjoying a few drinks along the way, and then turning back at Ark Bar.

All in all it was a fantastic experience, and the perfect last stop in Thailand for us.

Dear Binal4,

Thank you for making Centara part of your Tour of Thailand and for presenting the readers of Trip Advisor such a comprehensive review of your stay with us.

We find it irresistible that you mention ‘looking up from your book’ to people watch or glance out at the sea. We’re Book People too and in this age of Kindles and other electronic doodads it’s refreshing to see guests enjoying reading real books!

Furthermore, we love that you did so much walking. Honestly, the Chaweng area gives one a richer and more diverse impression when it is seen on foot rather than zipping through on a scooter or in a taxi.

The after-dinner walks down the beach are magical. Cooling breezes and a drink here or there are a great way to wrap up a day in Paradise.

Thank you again for taking the time to write such a wonderful review. We hope to welcome you back again soon.

Kind regards,

Joe Clasby

We have stayed in Centara Samui since 1999. Over those may years we have so many fond memories of family holidays here. In the truest sense Centara has always felt like a home away from home for us.
Most days are spent lazing in the shadows of the coconut palms, floating languidly in the sea or exploring the island in a rent Jeep.
The Seabreeze restaurant is a particular favourite . It's hard to go wrong with anything ordered, but we especially love the green curry. We have found the service of Jiraporn at Seabreeze to be welcoming and genuinely friendly.
The days pass so quickly and by the end of a long stay we are already planning our next (longer hopefully!)

Dear Alison S.,

You’ve been with us almost from the very start! We value all feedback equally, but it especially gratifying to hear from the guests who return year after year.

Thank you for the compliment on Jiraporn. We’re not surprised that she looked after you so well. She gets great praise for the way she takes ownership of the Seabreeze restaurant and ensures that it is well-run. She’ll be happy to hear she has made front page news at Trip Advisor!

You’re right too about the green curry. Its almost reason enough by itself to come back to Centara. Well, that floating in the sea, the shady spot under the coco palms, exploring the island, and mini-golf….etcetera, etcetera…

We’re sure that you’re basking in the lovely spring days in Cranleigh, but if you do find yourself daydreaming of a return visit drop us a line –you have my details- and we’ll help make sure your next visit is the best one yet.

Thank you for taking the time to share your review.

All the Best,

Joe

It was my 10th time at the Centara hotel in Chaweng Beach. No need to say that is my favorit place in the island.

a- the hotel has a very tropical atmosphere, with a huge open lobby with a nice view on the beach.

b- the rooms have a good mix with modern facilities and wood floor&thai style.

c- the staff is awsome! always making sure you need anything.

d- maybe the only point a little bit less, in the high season, it is not that easy to find a place by the pool (poeple keep them reserved all day). But the beach is right there for a second option :)

-> I am already looking forward to come back

Thanks again for everything!

Alex from Switzerland

Dear Alexandre M.,

The 10th time is the charm (as they say) and we can’t thank you enough for your loyalty!

A.) Large and tropical is our specialty, but we also recognize the significance in getting the small things right and providing details that delight.
B.) The floors in most of our rooms are a new product that looks great and performs better in this environment
C.) Our staff truly are our best asset and we treasure them.
D.) Actually, there are few things more aggravating than people who show so little consideration for others. We’ll ask the gentleman who looks after the pool and beach area to consider bringing back the tagging system so that towels are removed without fail from sun loungers that go unoccupied.

‘E’ is for excited. We can’t wait to welcome you back for your 11th stay!

All the Best,

Joe

We arrived at 'Centara Grand beach resort' Koh Samui around 1300 on Saturday March 1st. The slightly winding driveway to the hotel entrance allows for an impressive first glimpse of the pagoda style huge reception with floating Lilly's in ponds and a huge smile and welcome from the porters who immediately acknowledged and assisted myself and my wife before dealing with our luggage. We were then met by 'Bright' who too,had a huge welcoming smile and sat us down for a chat about our journey assisted with our check in, which may I add was completed from my armchair! We were offered a nice cold pomegranate drink and a very welcome cold towel . Another nice touch was the arrival of the guest relations Manager' Joe Clasby , who I had previously corresponded with via e mail regarding our visit. Joe was equally as welcoming with a tube of factor 30 in hand in case we needed some lotion to head immediately to the beautiful beach which was in full view from our position at the time in reception. After our check in was complete , Bright and Joe both escorted us to our Deluxe Pool Suite 201. The walk from reception to the room with the view of the fantastic beach, through the immaculately kept gardens , and past an ornamental pond gave us encouragement of standards to expect from our room... We were not disappointed !
Bright opened our beach front door to reveal our private plunge pool, in a well appointed courtyard in front of the room( it has to be noted that though the room is beach facing , there is no view of the beach at all from inside the room enabling you full privacy to enjoy your pool)
Going through the double patio doors to the room from the courtyard, reveals a very nice large room with sofa, coffee table and huge bed , with Welcome spelt out in blossom and orchids , a basket of fruit and wine was apparent (a welcome gift from the general manager as we were celebrating a belated honeymoon)and nice touches of single fresh flowers in vases around the room. A coffee maker, mini bar, large Tv , DVD player, and a plug in mosquito repellent for those concerned about mosquito report( we have had no issues as yet). The bathroom is we equipped with plenty if good quality products a nice bath and a shower with room for 2.
This is only our first day but as I said , our first impressions are excellent ...,, I will keep you posted.

Dear Joe B.,

Thank you for comprehensive review of the arrival progression. The imagery is so rich it’s as though I was right there with you!

We are pleased to learn that you are settling in well and enjoying the facilities thus far. I stopped by with an invitation to the cocktail party for you and your wife tomorrow night, but I imagine were out taking in the local market or our cooking class.I'd love to hear how your day went for you.

Anyway, I will pop round again. If there’s anything you need from advice on day trips to more SPF please let me know.

Had a great time. Great hotel and staff, particularly Pat at the desk upstairs. Always smiling and helpful.
Perfectly situated and everything you need is outside the front of the hotel.
The tailors next door to the hotel is excellent .
Only one thing was watching someone asked to return an orange to the breakfast room, bit embarrising for the person concerned ! But that was only one member of staff.

Dear Heigue,

Warm regards from Sunny Samui!

Thank you so much for sharing your evaluation with the Trip Advisor community. We are especially delighted that you mentioned Pat our Front Office Manager. She really is tireless and possesses an eternally bright smile. These are essential characteristics for success in her position.

Referring to guests packing food items away from the breakfast buffet –we understand that being admonished for slipping away with food from the buffet is embarrassing, but sadly we are put in a position lately of having to monitor the situation as some visitors are clearly putting together lunch picnics.

Most guests understand and accept that it is reasonable to be limited to what is consumed in the restaurant.

We thank you for your bringing this subject up as well as your kind comments. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back soon.

Kind regards,

Joe

Dear JaxSte,

We love your enthusiasm. Many thanks for your energetic review.
We know you could hardly wait to get out to the pool -next time feel free to wear your bathrobe to breakfast if you find that more comfortable.
You’re right about Ark Bar. That place is Party Central especially when the DJ gets things cracking on Wednesdays. When the party wraps (right about sunrise) head back to Centara for peace and quiet.
Jaxste, thanks again for your positive outlook and comments. We’d love to welcome you back again soon. How about this summer?

All the Best,

Joe

What an amazing stay!!!! As this was our first ever stay overseas, what enchanting places away from home!!!!!! We were pleasantly greeted by front end staff, but the English language
was considerable problem which we slowly overcame! The resort was faultless, the room were spacious and clean, breakfast was amazing, your head chef Louis does an amazing spread from a hearty breakfast to dinner. The resort has everything to offer from the gym to spacious pools, jacuzzi and three well stocked bars to the in house day spa to the bakery. All staff at the resort are amazing with their very kind nature can't do enough for you!! We will defiantly be coming back .

Room Tip: Any room looking out towards the sea .

Dear Coleman M,

…and what an amazing review! We are so happy that you chose Thailand (and Centara) as your first overseas holiday destinations. We’re happier still that both delivered a fantastic experience for you.

Good on you for checking out all the facilities and options. Thank you especially for the compliment on Chef Luis’s breakfast. He does a great job for us and he works even harder when he gets a pat on the back.

Please make good on your pledge and come back to see us again soon.
