Well-travelled friends had reported favourably on the Buri Rasa on Thailand's Koh Samui and our 5-night stay in June 2012 confirmed their favourable assessment in every respect. Over the years my wife and I have enjoyed hospitality at many top holiday resorts on Bali and at Phuket, Samui, Krabi and other Asian destinations and the Buri Rasa rates with the very best. Its prime location on Chaweng Beach, the pleasing ambience of its cooling gardens and laneways and its superbly attentive staff help it stand out from the crowd. We'd gone there with some misgivings because management advised us a few weeks ahead that construction would be starting on a massive resort complex next door. They gave us a money-back cancellation option and we did consider going elsewhere because we really needed a good beach break. Internet research failed to reveal another place that looked as nice so we opted to proceed with our original plans and we're so glad we did.The Buri Rasa generously offered to help us find another place if noise was intolerable when we got there. A cold bottle of bubbly welcomed us to our room plus a delightful message in flower petals. Each night staff left lovely little hand-written cards and local sweets on the bed. A little corny perhaps but we loved it. We barely noticed building noise on the new site or on the other side where a resort is nearly complete. Nightclub noise from across the street was no problem either. The Buri Rasa's traditional style rooms may be aging a little but they are still charming and there's plenty of room for hanging wet togs. Hot water was reliable and the bed was comfortable although the old colonial style made it a bit hard to get in/out of. Laundry service was very good. Breakfast was more than ample and food quality generally excellent Lovely to have dinner on the beachfront and the small bar gave top service. The shaded beach area is wonderful and staff were fantastic, even ensuring no fruit fell from the beautiful big beachfront shade trees onto our heads! We were able to swim in the ocean every day virtually at any time. Each morning towels were set out on on our preferred recliner chairs and staff looked after our every need. A dozen or so Australians celebrating a bunch of 30th birthdays seemed to enjoy themselves immensely. We had magnificent weather and the Buri Rasa was perfect for our needs. It was one of the best holidays we've ever had (and there's been a few) and we felt it representated good value. No place is perfect for every need but really it would be a tough customer who finds cause for serious complaint about the Buri Rasa. We recommend it without hesitation to anyone wanting a well-appointed, superbly managed B&B type beach haven. We'd go back there tomorrow!

Room Tip: Upstairs room are a little more private than the ground level rooms which have their own courtyards.

If you are after the best service , best beach, and great accomadation look no further Buri Rasa deserves all the aclaim it gets . Thankyou to all the staff for making this a very special place. Yes there is a bit of construction happening but because everything else is so good you don't even notice it. Just a short stroll from all the action you'll be glad your not in all the action can become over welming at night time. It is all the little extras that make this hotel special, treats at the pool champagne on arrival, all bookings for outings taken care of you name it they do it.

Room Tip: Some rooms have thier own plunge pool we did not and it was perfect

More like a good 3 star hotel.

Buri Rasa is sandwiched between 2 construction sites. Not only is it an eye-sore when looking from the beach, but the noise will wake you up in the morning.

Breakfast is decent - bloody mary station was a nice touch.

Chaweng has become so filthy in recent years. Better off staying in Bo Put or Mae Nam

The stay at Buri Rasa wasn't planned but as our booking at another resort got messed up we ended at Buri Rasa - a choice from the hip. I must say it worked out perfectly. From the efficiency at the check in till we left one week later. The place is cozy, well kept and maintained, rooms are very clean and good. Breakfast is great and the offers on the buffet are very good. Your hot items ie. eggs, omelette, french toast are made as you like, no luke warm buffet items here. Staff is very kind and efficient yet still time for a small chat.
Internet work very well and (is included) and lets you sned those pic of the off day to those back home - who didnt make it to Koh Samui :-)
The beach side is great, nice white sand no dirt anywhere. Only if you are snorkling you wont find much to see as the bottom is pure sand. Walk to the left for about 20 minutes and the reef will let you see fish and other interesting stuff.
Should you opt to eat out there is not far to walk before you will find whatever your may crave for. Having said that the food offered at Buri Rasa did not let us down at all.

Room Tip: Some rooms at ground level may be a bit dark and gloomy, but have a sitting pool. On the first floor I will assume there is more light but - I believe theres is no sitting pool - not sure though.

OK so we stayed 4 nights here. Ill say all the good first and mention the bad

Staff: I will say that i have never stayed at a hotel with such a nice friendly helpful bunch of people. Outstanding in all categories. always welcomed and willing to help

Location: The hotel isnt in the heart of the nightlife, although is a perfect walk to and from. Not too far and not too close.

Breakfast: Outstanding. Best ive had.

Rooms: The rooms are not modern looking by any means, although they are large and set beautifully, the extras they give you are amazing, ie wifi pillow menu, dvd player tv nice ac. Our room had a large bath and big shower. The beds were a double size, which was a little different to the king we usually get, although they still were very comfortable. IN ADDITION, THE WHOLE HOTEL HAS WIFI.. FOR FREE :-)

Pool and seats: The pool is very nice and is a infinity style out to the beach. The chairs are nice and comfortable which are located on the beach and hotel pool side.

OK SO THE BAD>:: The hotel is fairly narrow although long. On both sides there is construction and has been apparently for over 5 years now.. The construction startes at 8am and finishes at 5pm. This made a morning sleep in very hard and we usually got out of bed 830am as we awakened.

SOOOooo if you dont drink too much and dont mind getting up before 9am, then this hotel is absolute bliss.

Hope this helps :-)
