“GREAT place, AMAZING staff, but not really for family with small kids”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 February 2013

This is our first time in the Thai islands and as a family we didn't know what to expect in terms of choosing the right location.
After talking with friends and reading a lot we decided to stay in the main beaches of the islands we will visit.
In Koh Samui we chose the Chaweng area... Which turned to be a sub optimal choice for us.
Very crowded, very noisy, smells all over the place and... Not much activities for the small kids (ages 2 and 4) and not a good infrastructure to walk around by foot.

The hotel itself is AMAZING - great, big and clean rooms, great service, super friendly and helpful staff, great breakfast. We got a re upgrade to the family suite room which was really awesome. We were so happy to get back to the ron every evening and find the daily surprise treatment they left us on the bed...
But for us- we lacked the infra' for kids (eg - no kids pool, very small pool with not much space and shallow water area for kids to run and play, ...)

Two other issues we had although I believe that these are somehow temporal and bad luck we had: (1) right next to the village there are construction works to build a mall or something like that. Our room (room #3) was just in front of it so we had some noise in the morning. Wasn't too bad and we even didn't complain about it since we were so happy with the room. I am sure that if we have raised it - they would move us to a better room.
(2) the waves and currents in the beach on which the village is located we're so strong that no one could actually get into the water. They told us it happens once in a year and unfortunately we had a chance to see it live. Walking around the beach I did see other places (north to Buri Rasa) in which the situation was better and the beach was more suitable for kids.

Bottom line - GREAT place, AMAZING service but for us it wasn't a perfect fit as we needed something more friendly for kids and we shouldn't go to the Chaweng area for what we looked for.
So 5 stars for the hotel, 3 stars for the Chaweng environment for families.

I've just come back from the vacation at a beautiful beach of Chaweng with my wife, spending our wonderful time at Buri Rasa. The hotel room was so nice and comfortable. We really love the way it is decorate, so exotic with style. As the nearby construction site had been making quite a loud noise, we were so lucky that our room was just the opposite direction, so the noise was not too annoying for us. Also, we spent most of our times at the beautiful beach, enjoying sun, sea and sand. The whatever-you-desire food from a splendid chef was absolutely superb. We enjoyed all the meals at the resort. What we couldn't have missed to mention was the great service from all friendly staff. We can feel their warm hospitality and willingness to provide the best service for all guests. Our vacation at the resort was so relaxing and fun. We will definitely come back for more fantastic moments again this very soon.

I can see how this would have been a charming oasis. Lush well kept gardens. Charming if slightly faded rooms. Helpful pleasant staff. Amazing breakfast. Unfortunately the loud bass music that other reviews mentioned as speaker tests foretold the opening of a staggeringly loud pool bar at the new construction next door. I happen to like club/dance music but am as distressed as the staff out holding decibel meters at the once idyllic pool area. I saw a reading of 80 dB. Think factory. Or loud freeway. The music is drowning out noise from the construction site on the other side (earth movers and jack hammering). Get the picture? We aren't noise sensitive cranks - just suggesting you cancel NOW if you can. We wish we had.

My wife and I had booked 11 nights at this hotel in September 2012 to stay in January 2013. Once we realised that construction work on either side was underway we monitored the tripadvisor reviews, and later decided to cancel our booking at Buri Rasa Village and re-book elsewhere on Koh Samui. During our stay we made an evening visit to the Buri Rasa hotel and grounds.

The hotel surroundings are beautiful, right on the beach and southern end of Chawang road, but at 18:45 there was still construction hammering going on at one side. We are pleased that we changed our booking. However, once construction is completed we would consider staying at Buri Rasa in the future.

We ate at Ninje Crepe opposite Buri Rasa, after reading on tripadvisor, and although the place is quite simple, the value of our meal there was probably one of the best of our stay. The Manager and staff were extremely pleasant. Plenty of food, and three large bottles of Chang beer, for less than 800 Baht, excellent! Ninje Crepe definately recommended.

Room Tip: Did not stay here, visit only.

Given that this was the most expensive hotel of our Island Hopping Holiday we left slightly disappointed. We arrived mid afternoon and swere hown to our room which was nice. The thing that struck us was the heavy base soung reverbirating thru the room. On investigation we found this to be coming from the yet to be opened adjacent new hotel. We were unsure if this was being tested but if not this will ruin the BR ambience if the same volumes are the norm. The other issue we had was non existent WiFi nor useable computer in the recepion area. This was investigated by the hotels IT person without resolution. Overall I think BR Samui could learn a lot on customer service from the sister hotel on Ko Phangan where we also stayed. Stay here but be aware of the potential for it to be noisey. We noticed two other couples checking out early during our stay due to the building works on the other side of the hotel from where we had the issues from the new hotel sound system.

We have just returned from our third visit to the Buri Rasa and it will be our last. Upon arrival we were unable to check in for some hours due to a fire in the power supply the previous night. The staff did offer alternate accommodation for that night but were unable to say where and at what level. When we did get into our unit (No 14) we found the attached plunge pool was not working, the water was cloudy and there was a very large dead cockroach floating in it. Not very inviting. The inside of the unit was looking very worn and in need of a repaint and make over. The sink in the bathroom didn't drain well, the airconditioning was very noisy and hard to adjust and the bathroom towels were thin and had seen better days.

But these were only minor problems to what is happening exterior to the Buri Rasa. On one side (the same as our unit) construction is under way of a new multilevel building. They work 12 to 14 hour shifts, 7 days a week. On the other side a new resort is opening and they were trying out their sound system each afternoon blasting out rap music (if you can call it music) at a level that made bottles and glasses vibrate in the Buri Rasa bar area. So if you are looking for peace and quiet and a place to relax as we were, don't go to the Buri Rasa.

The level of staff service is still excellent and the food very good but the BR has lost a lot of its gloss and given that we were paying around $300 USD a night it is not value for the money.
