“A classy choice on Chaweng beach”
Reviewed 24 July 2009

Buri Rasa is an upscale hotel that is constructed in "Thai village" style and is located right on the beach at Chaweng, Koh Samui. Unfortunately we only had a single night in Sumui, but that was more than enough for us to get a sense of the hotel and to be able to recommend it to other travelers.

If (like us) you are not a fan of anonymous and ugly high rise hotels, then you will find Buri Rasa to be a tasteful alternative. The rooms are arranged in a series of duplexes, linked by a path to the reception and the pool/beach. The room itself was more than satisfactory - nicely decorated, unbelievably comfortable bed and a huge bathroom. It was absolutely spotless, and we are quite fussy about cleanliness. The only real minus that we can think of is the lack of light in the room (nice for romance but not for reading in bed)

The front desk staff are extremely helpful and friendly, as are most of the other staff (and there are a lot of them!). We only ate breakfast in the restaurant, but it was very tasty and we heard other guests who ate dinner there raving about it. As per the photos on their website, the pool is really small and not that great, but the sea is right there and very inviting.

As far as Chaweng Itself goes, the beach is great but the development behind it is totally tacky and quite hideous. The restaurants are all very overpriced and employ annoying touts, with the exception is the excellent Ninja Crepes just behind the hotel. However, if you enjoy a nice beach and a classy hotel we would still recommend a couple of nights here.

we stayed here for a week and after much research on koh samui resorts and hotels we felt we made the best choice. the hotel only has approx 30 rooms so it has an intimate feel and the staff get to know you personally. the pool and bar area is amazing and you can run back and forth from the pool to the ocean. there is a massage place right in front of the beach area that gives one hour massages for 7 dollars. also the resort is about 2-3 minutes walk from the centre of town which is great as town can be quite busy with people trying to hussle you for business. from 5-7pm they have 2 for 1 cocktails,

there also is a library and free internet in the resort so you can sit at the pool on your laptop.

This hotel is fantastic. It has really nice rooms (some even have a private small pool in the garden). The staff are very friendly and attentive. The people at reception were great and at the poolside made it a point to know you immediately and make sure you got whatever you wanted. HIghly recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice romantic getaway or for a weekend with some good friends on holidays in central Chaweng,

I stayed at the Buri Rasa resort when visiting Koh Samui. It is a spectacular property at the perfect location on Chaweng Beach. Situated right on the north end of the beach, it was quiet, but within walking distance to all the Chaweng night life. We stayed in an upstairs unit, which was a spectacular room. Very very spacious, with a sitting area, king sized platform bed with mosquito netting (beautiful), full veranda (with seating area) and a bathroom that you could have had a party in it was so huge. Big jacuzzi tub on a platform where you could open the windows and feel like you were outdoors. Also the bathroom had a separate shower, double sink and was very nicely decorated. You can see pictures of the resort and our room here (www.bit.ly/beachexaminer). We were upstairs, so had a view of the pool and the sea from the bedroom and the veranda. The units underneath us had outdoor Jacuzzi's that were sheilded from our view looking down by beautiful arbors covered with tropical flowers. Tip: do not leave the windows around the jacuzzi tub in your room open. One word: Mosquitos.

The staff and service was excellent in all respects and the onsite restaurant was great. Especially when enjoying the included breakfast, because part of the buffett was a Bloody Mary bar - greatly appreciated after a long night in Chaweng. They also had beach service from the bar and a roped off area that was beach vendor free and greatly appreciated. Very fancy strawberry daqueries.

All in all, I can't wait to get back to this beautiful island and fantastic resort.

i think buri rasa has less than 20 rooms but its a fantastic plce..i booked it thru a website so was very skeptical when we left but im glad i booked it coz it was really pretty n nice..the location is super if u want action all the time...u have tons of stuff all around..massage parlours, bars, restaurants, shopping.however if u want none of those then its better to move away from chaweng beach as this is wher all the action happens..however once u get into the hotel u hear none of the noise or anythng..the hotel has rooms whch have individual dip pools...they say the pools r private but u can look into those from other rooms...the beach out thr is pretty clean too n they have a pool whch is pretty nice too..

We stayed at the Buri Rasa Village and found it to be an excellent oasis of tranquility in the midst of the activity on the main street of Chaweng which is right outside the front entrance. This was despite the hotel claiming to have problems of noise caused by the building site next door (we hardly heard a thing).

The hotel is village style and everyone has their own entrance with small private gardens for those on the ground floor. The rooms we had were charming and there was sufficient room - without being excessive as you sometimes find in hotels in Thailand.

Breakfast was a little unusual as you were required to order most things from the waiter to compliment a relatively small buffet. That being said everything you would expect was available, it just took us the first day to realise exactly how the system worked. Other meals we took in the city so apart from feeding the children we don't know too much about the restaurant.

The swimming pool is not quite up to expectations and not very inviting but then you have the beach right on your doorstep, so who really cares.

If you like shopping and bargining with the store holders then this is a great place to be - so that you can run away when you have had enough.

Overall impression - nice hotel, nice service and facilities - without being exceptional, but probably good value when compared with other hotels we saw on the same street.
