“Relaxation Paradise”
Reviewed 15 August 2011

We recently returned from Samui and enjoyed our stay at the Dara Samui Beach Resort and Spa. We found our room to be large and well equipped with a huge bed, nice furniture, wall decorations, large bathroom, a personal safe and free LAN cable internet. The hotel was clean and was designed with many outdoor sitting areas near greenery and fish-filled water features. Walking to breakfast in the mornings, passing relaxing water fountains and fragrant flowers was a great way to start the day. The breakfasts were enjoyable with many egg options, fresh fruits, breads and sweet treats but it was not as extensive as the full International breakfasts seen in 5 star hotels. We found all the staff friendly and helpful. The pool was smallish and with few spaces around it for sun lounges but the beach area with many beach seats was a winner! On the sand and near the continuous parade of walkers and beach sellers it was a constant source of entertainment. Service to this area was excellent. Happy Hours at 3-4pm and 6-8pm saw two-for-one deals and a wide array of snacks on offer.
The hotel’s location at the northern end of Chaweng Beach was an advantage as it was near good shopping and street-side restaurants - The Tree, Duomo, Red Snapper, Royal India ( cheap), Café Uno ( coffee, cake and snacks) were some we tried. Beach-side of the hotel saw many restaurants on the sand. These had good food, cocktails, music and entertainment.
The only problems we encountered at the hotel were with electrical/techno features like the door key card that twice refused to let us enter our room, the safe refused to open once and there was no iron available. The former two were remedied promptly.
We enjoyed our stay, were sad to leave and would recommend this hotel. We look forward to returning.

After booking this hotel and then reading some of the reviews on Tripadvisor, we were quite worried about what we were getting ourselves into.

But so far our stay has been nothing but perfect. Service is with a smile, we arrived with a cool drink and cool towel upon arrival, something quite welcome after arriving at the Airport in such tropical heat.

The room is amazing, very spacious and built for couples, with a big bathtub, big showerspace and twin basins to boot.

The bed is king size (bigger than king size I suspect) and very comfortable to live in. We were welcomed into our room, with the airconditioning already on and a personalised welcome letter on our bed upon arrival. Complimentary fruit as well which I thought was a nice touch.

Breakfast came included and there was quite a selection to be had at the buffet as well as off the menu. Okay so the eggs may not be the best I have had, but I must admit, I am in Thailand and if I wanted eggs and bacon, I would order that back home.

The asian style breakfast was much tastier and nicer off the menu, moreover, the Thai fried rice noodles were as good as what you could get at a street stall without all the chilli.

Everyone was very helpful and courteous and they all greeted us with politeness as you would expect from the Thai people.

I am not too sure what some of the reviews for this hotel are on about, because we have and are enjoying our stay at Dara Samui and would definitely come back again in the future.

It wasn't that expensive either....!!!!

Over priced for the tiny room, mouldy tub, inedible breakfast, joke of a pool without room for a single sun lounger around it, loungers only on the beach. I am not sure everyone wants to be on the beach all the time. Staff a little inefficient considering this is thailand and service with a smile is the norm. The pool bar had a happy hour but the waiter does not promote it nor enquire if one would like a drink.I wouldnt stay there again, except for the location.

Very disappointed. Had to carry luggage by my self up the stairs to open air reception without air conditioning. Their superior rooms are standard rooms. They sold us a family room but only had 3 beds. When complined was told to takt it or leave it. They wanted extra money for change of room. They charged extra for my 10 years old breakfast even though it was supposed to be included. We couldn't do anything as we were stuck there. At breakfast the service was awful. Spoke to number of other people staying there who had similar experience. One family from Isreal had a 2 year son and they had to pay extra for his breakfast. Hotel didn't even let them checkout later or even let them use facility to stay till their flight time.

On the positive, the location of His in a very popular area. Many resturants and barsotel near by. No need to hire car as everything within walking distance. We hired Moped to get around. Hotel is expensive for food and drinks. Customre service was non existant. Beach is nice but sea wather was too shallow as it is closed off to main sea.

Hotel decor was nice and bathrooms in the room is speacous. I really would not recommedn this hotel for cost and service but location is nice.

Room Tip: They do not have family rooms.

we really enjoyed our stay, the room was very big, with everything we needed and more.
the hotel is on the beach and has a great pool and resturant.
the hotel is in the middle of everything close to all bars and clubs and the shops, but still quiet at night.
the staff was great the breakfast was very good.
i really really recommend, we will be back for sure !

This is not a 4 star Hotel!!! Not even 3 star!!! Don't go. I asked them to pay the first night and give me back the other 2 nights and they denied! This Hotel is very dirty, you can see it at the photos that i have uploaded. The breakfast is horrible! not even fresh orange juice. There are very good hotels at Chaweng, this is not even acceptable.

Wonderful location, nice boutique resort, the beach is also very nice, white sand and clear blue sea. You can walk right from the hotel to the beach. Staff is not really nice and dont take room 511 ;) sometimes there is a electric/power failure on the island. The power unit is under this room what gives a lot of diesel smell and noise. I complained but the staff was not very helpful. I asked for another room because the smell was terrible and i could not stay in the room. It was like sitting behind the exhaust of a truck. If there is no electric for a few hours i dont mind, that can happen. Then the staff came with a spray of parfum for the room pffff so disapointing. I had expected more help and understanding from the so called manager. I paid a lot of money for the room.
