PISCIOTTO or FORNACE PENNA is a so-called industrial archeology monument standing on a minuscule promontory dominating the bay of Sampieri, a charming and renamed locality in the RAGUSA PROVINCE.
It's a former factory with an high chimney stack, ruined by a fire and never restored.
Rumors tells about a mobsters revenge as the reason of the fire.
Anyhow, it's majestic and Post-Apocaliptic figure, it's imposing and desolated image, suspended between the past and the future, has attracted a good number of historians, photographers, film-makers, reporters and paper Editors.
The PISCIOTTO, in the Sicilian Idiom, is called "U STABILIMIENTU ABBRUCIATU" (the burned establishment); it has become a suggestive location for the Italian Television Fiction "IL COMMISSARIO MONTALBANO" even being a wonderful subject for some important photographers, also turning itself into a kind of Sicilian Symbol for reportages and Magazine covers.
Apart from this monument, the area is very rich in natural and panoramic beauties: sea, beaches, rocks, ancient fishermans' villages (colorful and picturesque); and a still unspoiled environment.
All these factors have helped the Litoral of Ragusa to become a touristic policy pole, similar to Rimini, Jesolo or the Tuscany seaside Area.. Have a good trip..
